MATCH REPORT; Wallingford 4 Madison 4

We came, we saw, we oh so nearly conquered! But in the end the wheels well and truly came off the chariot as Madison Celtic threw the lead away twice in a roller coaster of a game that ended in a 4-4 tie. The Wallingford Morelia team had started the season with two wins and got off to an early supremacy in the game with some smart passing and good ball control. Once again Madison started the game in a sluggish fashion finding great difficulty in stringing a set of passes together that involved teammates. The make shift defense shorn of La Bocca and Goggs was hoping for a bit of time to settle in but unfortunately that was denied as a criminally short pass back to Jodingo!! was snapped up by a Morelia forward who rounded the stranded Celt and swept the ball past The Hulk for an early one nil lead. Madison struggled to get into the game but gradually they managed to take a foothold with some great runs by Safet and Jorge pushing the Wallingford team back into defense. And just as the half was nearing the end a great pass by Jorge found Safet running clear and he did not miss his chance to slam in the equalizer. This was a great confidence booster for the Celts and they started the second half with their tails up. Great wing play by Madison at the start of the second period provided some great opportunities for goal chances with Safet frequently bursting into the opposition penalty box and laying on some great passes only to see them squandered. But the tide had truly turned in the game and Madison were taking control, a point that was confirmed when a great pass by Ilhan allowed Tano to flick the ball past the opposition goalkeeper for the go ahead goal. Madison were really motoring at this point and extended their lead when a great run by Roniildo down the Madison right wing ended with a great cross which was again met by the predatory Tano for his second and Madison’s third of the game. It looked like the Celts could run up a large score at this point but instead they chose to collectively press the self destruct button.
For some reason, best left off this report, Jorge and Telat decided to have a shouting match at each other. Unfortunately this spread to the rest of the team and at one point 7 players were involved in a scrum of an argument completely ignoring the urgent calls from the The Hulk that the game was still going on! This incident clearly filled the crestfallen Morelia team with the confidence to keep trying….and try they did. Shortly after this self sustained debacle Morelia scored a second goal to get them back into the game. Madison still had some great chances to increase their lead notably when Johnaldo was released by a great pass from Jorge only for him to ineffectually lob the ball to the opposition goalkeeper when a return pass to Jorge or a low hard shot may have met with a better outcome. From the possibility of going 4-2 up Madison found themselves back to square one when the Morelia team went straight down the field and straight through the Celtic defense to score a great equalizer. With only 5 minutes left on the clock that looked like the end of the excitement but how wrong that was! Jorge strode up the field and unleashed a powerful dipping shot that crashed off the opposition bar giving the goalkeeper no chance but amazingly the ball did not cross the line. Luckily for the Celts, Tano was on hand again to slot the loose ball into the net for his hat trick and what looked like the winning goal. Unfortunately, Celtic could not hold out for the last 2 minutes of the game and play the type of smart possession football that you need to see a game out. At one point, Madison had 7 players in the opposition half looking for another goal but also tempting the inevitable to happen. In what looked like the last attack of the game Morelia got to the edge of the Madison penalty box and even though the Celts had ample opportunity to clear their lines with a boot up the field they didn’t and the ball made its way to a Wallingford player in the box who was unceremoniously upended in the box by Ilhan for a clear penalty. And the end of a wild roller coaster ride of game was marked by the ball scorching past the despairing dive of the Hulk as Wallingford grabbed a very unlikely point. A really disappointing end to a game that Madison had almost wrapped up early in the second half. If they are to survive in this new league the team has to be smarter and more aware of what to do when they are in the lead. The team also has to learn that screaming and shouting at your team mates is not only destructive to team morale and focus, it is massively encouraging to the opposition

MAN OF THE MATCH; TANO Great hat trick by Tano and some really predatory skills in full view. Also fantastic support work by Jorge!

i hope so.... we can't keep arguing on the field

  3. Tough luck, gents. Gotta keep focused. Easier said than done, I know, but it is one thing we can control at all times.

  4. Tom i agree... its amazing how often this happens and this time i think it affected the outcome of the game

  5. Not only was the arguing distracting, it completely embarrassed the team. If any one of us has such low respect for the rest of the team, such that there is clearly no consideration of how blatant juvenile behavior reflects on everyone of us, then YOU DON'T BELONG ON THE TEAM.

If this happens again, I for one, will ask that you no longer play for Madison Celtic. I certainly don't want to play on a team where this poor behavior is acceptable.

  6. Thank you for the match report John
Good beers and snacks, was great, thanks El Gato.
    Beautifull pictures, Annie thank you.
And thanks to the team too, for the great passes(Jorge, Ilhan, Roniildo), if we make 4 goal we didn't do it, that bad, so don't worry about the result, we know who, was the best team .
On my opinion the best way to deal for the issue abut players who yelling on the field is this: don't answer back. For me and Roniildo it works,
Or sometimes I said, sorry, I'll do better next, or explain that when yelling at you, do worse, and it doesn't rewind the time to fix it. So deal with it.
    Who doesn't make mistakes?
And talk too much at the field saying, "Why you don't did this or that" is waste your breath, and make you tired more faster.
But no matter how we explain, what is wrong about go crazy in the field against each other, Is hard for someones understand,
My suggestion for a quick solution:
Our Captain can stop them, and we have to let him do his job without any intervesion.
If two guys argue each others, stay out, don't jump in, let's our captain deal with them, and keep concentrate on the game, I think we can do that.
So we move on, and we learn from our own mistakes.
    Chill out.

    Cheers.

  7. One thing we need to do is to stop acting like a team of mixed-up foreigners. Leave your national roots off the field. We need to act as one unified team.

Yes, I'm well-aware that everyone on the team is proud of his respective heritage, as should be the case. But we are a team first.

  8. Jodingo!! yes, we have a true United Nations of players on our team.... we should focus on the United part rather than the Nations!

    ReplyDelete
  9. we do need to sort the defence out.... in the CARSL season we went 13 games and lost only 8 goals.... we are only 3 games into the SASL season and we have already lost 8 goals!!

Defence was a strength of the team but is now turning into a bit of a problem!

  10. I don't think the 1. half-pass back pass, 2. the unmarked man on the corner, or 3. take down in the box resulting in a penalty kick has anything to do at all with the back line!!

All 3 of those were midfielder blunders.

Great to hear Jorge and Telat had a little love fest to clear the air...nice play on the United nations Johnaldo...think that is exactly who we want to be..a bunch of powerful crooks who get together and party a lot in New York City at other peoples expense.........

Talking about love fests.....Tomassitto, I am genuinely sorry for blaming you for the 4th goal penalty fiasco....I hope you can forgive me, and we move on forever!

    ReplyDelete

About celebration CBO planing something for next game Hulk said about bring his BBQ pit and I can bring my too. We play vs East Haven and that is 10 blocks from my house. But I want to reserve a place very close to that field is by the beach and have tables and all our needs. We can arrange some ceremony to give some medals and trophies (how is our financial situation for that).I can BBQ for 50 peoples so if we are like 30 is a piece of cake for me, only what I need is some cooperation to buy some needs.

    ReplyDelete
  43. ........TANO, I have a good sense of humour. feel free to post your last one. I will not be offended ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  63. ........surprised that not much comments on us winning the league??? have we done that in the past? Pre Roniildo days

    ReplyDelete
  64. .............TANO, can you let LaBoca Know too

    ReplyDelete
  65. Roniildo.... two reasons probably....

    1) No one is reading the blog ( all too busy)
    2) Need to have the league win confirmed by the league.... make up games are always a possibility for Bridgeport

    ReplyDelete
  66. we probably won the Division 2 several years ago when we went the whole season without losing.... of course, no league tables were produced

    ReplyDelete
  67. .......thanks Johnaldo! Too bad if bridgeport win a makeup game. Thought we had it in the bag. Keep my fingers crossed!

  68. Roniildo.... i only have 2 medium shirts in the locker right now.... have ordered a number of Celtic shirts but they will not be here by Sunday.... may need to bring some of my old shirts.... as long as i get them back!!

    ReplyDelete
  69. Ronildo: about the champions matter it may that Johnaldo said or ????
They looks like they out of motivation, so different comparing with all the passion, at the field.
We are now like a 3 crazies guys, cheering on the blog.
So now the others may reading and thought this:
"So we are champs, and what for?
    We won at least lollipop?
A free tiket to watch Barca vs Real?
Or a Dinner with LOTB at Castaway in Burbank CA."

I don't want to deal with some sense of humors and character of those, when they reach the retirement center, that is not to far away precisely is just right at the corner of our lives .

    ReplyDelete
  70. ..............Tano, u kill me man! Your positude is awesome for our team. we will continue to have fun, and the anti bloggers can continue to be curmudgeons ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  71. ..............I have a couple too that i can bring..we can ask safet to wash them for us HAHA....couldn't resist

    ReplyDelete
  72. What a difference,
I remember when I joined this team not long time ago, my older Son (Matt, the I believe is El Zorro) He was looking desperate a Celtic Shirt for me, and I did take care to myself, now I'm jealous about how you guys babysit the new players.

    ReplyDelete
  73. .......TAno, they are old shirts..OK for friendlies but not the real games ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  74. We need confirmation from CARSL that we won before we start cartwheeling and drinking to abandon!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Johnaldo, If one of the new players wants my new large Celtic jersey, I'll trade it for one of the mediums. However, the new player would have to pick a number that ends in "8" ...since I already had the jersey silkscreened (permanent) with the number "8".

    I've worn it 3 times

    ReplyDelete
  76. ................Tom will be notified by CARSL I presume?

    ReplyDelete
  77. ............Jodingo!! Does the silkscreen look good, and where id you have it done?

    ReplyDelete
  78. In Berlin, near NU. It's good...and cheap...$4, but it takes a few days between drop off and pick up.

If anyone wants their shirt done, I can handle it....just give it to me after a game...I'll even wash it for you...once!

    ReplyDelete
  79. .......thanks Jodingo!! I need my short sleaved shirt done. It is clean, and I'll bring it on Sunday

    ReplyDelete
  80. I'm out this Sunday. Next game.

    ReplyDelete
  81. ........forgot u were out this week Jodingo!!

    so far we have

    Bambi
    TomA
    Johnaldo
    Roniildo
    El Gato
    Halil
    Ilhon
    Telat
    Atilgan
    Roberto
    Dave

    ReplyDelete
  82. ........Jorge, can you play on Sunday???

    ReplyDelete
  83. I need to play this game (watch Peter Roniildo)
    NO referee are sure?

    ReplyDelete
  84. is the Hulk available??

    ReplyDelete
  85. As for "no one reading the blog"... last month (August) we had over 1,500 individual visitors to the blog ( a record ) and they viewed over 7,000 pages ( also a record!) Since the blog started just over two years ago there have been 14,602 visitors reading nearly 75,000 pages of blog info!!

    .....Unless it's all just Tano

    ReplyDelete
  86. ...........not sure if Hulk is back from his Tuna fishing this week or not?

    ReplyDelete
  87. I thought haulk said he is out on the 19th which is our first home game.

    ReplyDelete
  88. ........that's a lot of fishing!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  89. Sadly the Celtic blog has recently fallen off my radar a bit with three kids starting school this week and a zillion other things to tend to... I can't believe we could win the CARSL league...and maybe the nerves of playing in a new league have something to do with the on-field shouting matches, but let's hope that will come to a swift end. I just think we should get Ronildo a taser....I probably can't make the friendly, though there's an outside chance I can. Did I miss it above, or does it say where the friendly will be held? I can recommend a nice field in Bethany....

    ReplyDelete
  90. Arniesto...... Good to see you back on the blog! Yes looks like we may win the division after Bridgeport failed to play their last two games! We will have to wait for some sort of confirmation before we go on a crazed drunken binge to celebrate! The friendly on. Sunday is at the Exchange field..... Hope you can make it

    ReplyDelete
  91. Tactics matters for next game vs East Haven:
I drive around East Haven, and I look the field, (is 8 blocks from my house) is the same size of like the Albanian Eagles, but nice grass.
And I notice that we didn't control very well the game on small fields. So I recommended for the scrimmage game to practice quick passes, visualize your men and midfield pressure. I'll be there.
No beers?, Dry law, this weekend?
Next official game, Beer boys will be Tom and Hulk.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Good plan Tano. I will bring some beers.... Can't have a dry home game!!!

    ReplyDelete
  93. Let me explain dear Elton.
Football is the most sexual sport.
Every game is an orgy, because have to Queens (Goals) and 11 soldiers want to get the ball and put inside the other team Queen.
The team who make more goals (orgasm) is the winner and obvious the Queens are frigid.

Football is not gay, but soccer it is, because is only in America and is more popular for womans than mens.:-0

    ReplyDelete
  94. The Hulk is in and after catching 2 50lb yellow fin tuna i will be a man of my word and bring the grill so all can enjoy. Also some hot dogs for the non fish lovers. I believe some good cooking with some great company is what the doctor has ordered for us.
