MATCH REPORT; Guilford Bell Curve 0 Guilford Celtic 0

The local derby game may have ended in a goalless stalemate but the match was anything but stale. A highly competitive game with chances to win appearing for both teams throughout the 90 minutes. Each side had periods of dominance and certainly the Celtic defense was to the fore when Bell Curve went marauding. Superb tackles by Jim, Tim and Dan kept the Bell Curve hosts at bay and on those occasions they broke through that "thin" green line Dustin was there to save, parry and block! In fact Dustin had another great outing putting his body on the line to make sure nothing breached his goal line. The rest of the team had a solid display although several players picked up injuries through the match because of the rough and tumble aspects of this derby.

A well deserved point, although it could have been 3 but, if it wasn't  for Dustin's heroics, it could have been zero!

MAN OF THE MATCH; Second week in a row for Dustin to pick up the accolades!

Thanks to Ronnie for all the pics!

NEXT GAME; Sunday 21st May; VS Guilford Bell Curve

A huge local derby game this Sunday at Guilford High School as Guilford Celtic take on arch rivals Guilford Bell Curve! These have always been very competitive games and i expect no different this Sunday. The Celts will be looking to bounce back from a poor performance a couple of Sundays ago. Bell Curve have had an indifferent start to their league campaign with only 1 win and 1 draw to their name. Should be a great game so get their early for a good warm up!

Kick off is at 10am at Guilford High School!

MATCH REPORT; Stamford Utd 2 Guilford Celtic 0

A poor disjointed performance by the Division 2 leaders Guilford Celtic saw them fall to a 2 0 defeat to basement dwellers Stamford. Right from the kick off the depleted Guilford squad were out of sorts and although they had one clear chance to take a lead their poor passing got the better of them as Stamford put in a solid performance. Two goals could have been many more if it had not been one of those days when Dustin was in top form. A string of saves kept the Celts in the match when they clearly deserved to be out of it. Nothing more to say other than it was a bad day at the office!

Man Of The Match; A clear winner in Dustin who played out of his skin to keep the goal count down

NEXT GAME; Sunday 7th May vs Stamford Utd ( Away)

Our next game is an away game at 10am against Stamford Utd. The field directions are below and i would suggest getting there as early as possible so we can ensure a full squad available at kick off and a warm up!  We have played Stamford man times and they usually end up as 0 0 or low scoring ties. They have got off to a fairly poor start this year so we should be gunning for all 3 points to maintain our position as league leaders!

See you there!

MATCH REPORT; Guilford Celtic 2 Norwalk S.C. 2

Guilford Celtic remained top of Division 2 after a hard fought 2 2 draw with Norwalk Sports Colombia. Norwalk is a team that have given the Celts a tough time in their past campaigns in the second tier so it was probably not too surprising that the opening  minutes would be dominated by the visitors who opened their account early with a shot from outside the box that left Dustin rooted to the spot. One nil down after less than five minutes shook the confidence of the home team and allowed Norwalk to stamp out their authority over the following 30 minutes of the game. Some perfectly executed bone crunching tackles from Jim kept the Norwalk forwards in check and the Guilford midfield pushed more and more for possession of the ball. Chances were few and far between but a brilliant substitution brought Tano into the game who scored the equalizer with almost his first touch! A typical goal poacher effort with the ball pinging around the box and being nipped in from 1 yard out.
The Celts finished the half with a lot more confidence and started the second in a similar fashion. The game was much more 50:50 and many more chances were coming the Celts way with the Norwalk goalie having to pull out a string of great saves. Of course, Dustin was having to do the same at his end of the field so the game was perfectly posed for a winning goal. And that's exactly what the Celts thought they had achieved when they were awarded a penalty with less that ten minutes left in the game. Edimar slammed the ball in to the net without hesitation to put the Celts into the lead for the firs time in the game. But disaster struck almost immediately when the Norwalk side moved up the field and took advantage of a rare defensive slip to slam in a cruel equalizer. The last few minutes of the game were fairly nervous from both teams as they held on to a point a piece.

MAN OF THE MATCH;
Some great defensive play from Jim and Edimar kept the Norwalk team from taking hold of the game in the first half hour. Todd also played really well on both flanks and a brief stint up front. But Johnny B had one of those games were he was everywhere trying to get the ball or take a shot so MOM goes to Johnny B!
