MATCH REPORT; Madison 2 Fairfield 1

The Celts recorded their first win of the season with a well deserved 2-1 victory over Fairfield. A strong pool of players was available and the Celts started the game as though they meant business. Strong midfield possession and some reasonable passing was the hall mark of the opening twenty minute of the game. Johnny B and Roniildo were playing well together with Jim  and Ruggero  taking great positions on the flanks. As other middies such as RobBz and TomA came into the game the Celts were really keeping a strangle hold on the ball. The defence was solid and keeping the ball as far away from the goal line as they could but when Fairfield did break through Hulk was there with reflex saves from every part of his anatomy. Up front Kevin, David, Tano and La Boca were the opening set of strikers in the first half and were getting shots off, some from a distance, but enough to keep the opposition on their toes. The break through came when the ball spun through to Kevin who made no mistake by flashing the ball past the Fairfield goalie for the opening goal. The Celts held out to half time and started the second half with some great play again from the midfielders. Some good passing and pressure up front eventually led to a rare moment for the Celts this season....a second goal!  This time Jim spinning a ball over the head of the goalie. Two up and cruising with twenty minutes to go should have seen the Celts through to the finish line but they gave up a cheap second goal which set up a nervous last phase of the game But even with all the Fairfield pressure the Celts held out to claim all three points!

Man Of The Match;  Some strong performances all over the pitch from the defense with Hulk and Tim, the middies with Johnny B, Roniildo and Jim and the  forward line On balance the MOM goes to Jim for his match winning goal!
