MATCH REPORT; Madison 2 N Branford 2

Madison dropped another two crucial points at home in the race for the Division 3 championship. For the second week in a row they had to fight back from a two goal deficit to salvage something out of the game but this time it was only a point.

The Celts started the game much better than last week and seemed confident on the ball and created several chances in the opening twenty minutes. Their biggest failing has been an inability to take the chances that come their way up front and an over reliance on spectacular goals. This would prove to be the case again when in what seemed to be North Branford's first attack they won a free kick just outside the Madison box. The free kick was floated in and the ball was met first by the Branford attacker who back flicked the ball over the arms of the out stretched Hulk and into the net for an undeserved one nil lead. This set back shook the Madison team and it took sometime for them to get back into the groove and just as it seemed they were taking control of the game again, another set back. This time a loose ball outside the penalty box that wasn't cleared allowed the Branford striker to lob the ball over the Hulk who had taken a few steps of his line. Two nil down seemed like a cruel score for the effort the team had been putting in but to be fair the Branford team had been playing hard and Madison were second to most balls in the midfield. Upfront, chances were coming but indecision in the box allowed most of these chances to be cleared. The fight back for Madison happened just before the break when debut boy David ( no nickname yet) burst it the opposition box and was summarily upended. A clear penalty that David strode up to take and slammed the ball past the goalkeepers left hand side. Unfortunately the ref asked for the penalty to be taken again because of player encroachment but David coolly retook the penalty and slammed it into the same spot. The half ended with the Madison team in a much better frame of mind. The makeshift defense had been playing well throughout the half most notably Jodingo!! and BOR.
The second half was a tough affair for both sides as the tackles got harder and the play became very disrupted by stoppages. Branford were holding on to their lead very effectively by defending in numbers then sending long balls up the field when they had a chance. As the half progressed Madison were getting closer and closer to grabbing the elusive equalizer but to no avail. Great defending and attacking play by BOR showed that the Madison defensive line was not under the same pressure in the second half compared to the first but they could not be complacent. As the clock wound down it looked like this was a game too far for the Celts and their unbeaten record in the SASL would be going along with 3 points. But just as the game was moving into injury time Madison earned a corner on their right side. Telat whipped in a great ball that was met flush on the head by Carlos to send the ball thrillingly into the net for a well deserved equalizer. Both teams played out the last couple of minutes to share the spoils of a tough but exciting game. Madison still sit third in the league but are now 3 points behind leaders Orange and Guilford. The next two games are at home against Orange and the Eagles and will be a huge indicator of the ambition of the Celts to win this league.

Man of the Match; BOR. Great defensive work and attacking play made BOR's performance the standout of the day

  7. Another journalistic masterpiece, Johnaldo. Thanks for the MOM. It would mean more if we had garnered the three points, however. I'm still a bit peeved we didn't get those points. Sorry I missed the post-match gathering.

I'm out this weekend if there happens to be a practice match... my kid has a premier tournament in Rocky Hill.

  14. So how was the fishing, anyway? I would love a report...I took the kids Sunday, I can verify that there's at least still plenty of porgies around, though we had to play catch and release. Still fun for the kids... instant entertainment, and a porgie pulls pretty hard for a 5-year old, I thought I was going to see a rod go into the water.

    Cheers,
    Bambi

  15. Fishing was fantastic.
we caught 8- 30" stripers and 20 more same size blues. We caught a dozen more blues but had no room so we send them back to the sea. we also caught atleast a dozen more stripers which were between 20" and 28" but could not keep because of the limit. Tano has 15 of the blues in his freezer.....

  17. I found it:

Is very simple and easy to define why we are losing games at the first half or end it in a draw
But the things are hard to find it, when you don't know where you lost it.
We lost to play as a TEAM.
Is not strategy is not players in the wrong place is not anything else is only one thing, and is the individual and personal wrong ego, that come first, for above the team play behavior.
Our enemy is inside our head that say: call for the ball all the time. Tell him he is the one who make the mistake or take him out he didn't do it well.etc.etc.etc.
And this is like a virus and we are all spreading and we have to stop this.
I'll start to my self, I will play more as a team player, even if the team don't give me a single pass.

Can we play at the field as we are when we are in the picnic? "A wonderful friendly team"(TomP described like that and I agree).
Can we get more emphasis about this .So if some player doesn't feel part of the team ask him what he need to feel part of us, need different position? need more time? and see if all togheter can integrate him to the Team too.
Goals means nothing if you don't win, why I say this? because last game that I made 3 goals, we got 4 goals against us, so keep this on mind , to win, we need to be a united team, the whole game.and put a side your Macho ego.
One of our players said this to me: "I don't care if I just play 5 minutes if the other guys are playing better than me, I don't want to call them out and lose the game for that.
That men is a team player.
I wish we keep talk about this because is not the entire team who read the blog. But please talk about this.
Can all the guys who read this, if you agree and want to work together, find the solution because, Eureka! we find the problem.
I don't want to quit because we became a butch of selfish losers and nobody have to do it, just try, like I'll do. And we will win this division too.

Let's do some practice this weekend and show us that you care about the team and love to play soccer. You'll see how everything is change for good.

Inspired on how Messi play in Barcelona (as team player) and how he play in Argentina national team (as an individual star). And what an irony becasue he is star in Barca, and not in his national team.

  18. Tom... i will play if there is a game on Sunday

  19. Tano,
3:30 in the morning? I am glad you got this off your chest.... You are right we have a lot of ego going on in our team. We should be playing more as a team not individual. But we sound like a broken record here....

  20. Tano does his best thinking in the middle of the night!

  21. I have more things and I need to explain some points that's why I wish we have a game to practice this.
I long to write down but easy to explain.
Hey guys don't get me wrong I don't looking for attention but lately I have more fun drinking after the game that I have during the game.
So I will work on it and I think I found our error beside the ego thing is another point the I like to discuss this Sunday. If the manager let me explain and you'll see why we can't start the game winning from the begining.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Tano, The reason is simple. We do not follow through in making short simple passes all the way up the field. We pass well in the back and middle, and then it breaks down once we near their 18-yard line. And we need to take more forceful, quality shots on goal.

This past game, the first goal they had was not due to a breakdown of anyone or poor play by us, but instead it was a good play on their part. The scoind goal was a fluke.

    ReplyDelete
  23. ............Tano, I think your message is clear and a good one. If we play like we party after the game, we can be a formidable team. The trick is making this happen....

.....I am in for Sunday too!

  24. I'm in for Sunday if there's an unofficial game. Hopefully someone can give me some fishing pointers too.. I'd be lying if I claimed to be putting that many fish in my boat. You guys snapping wire or jigging? Where the heck were you? Enquiring minds want to know.

  25. Bambi we did both.. Everytime we put a line in we caught something big right off the bat.... we were there 3 minutes and we already had two 30" stipers on the boat caught by Tano and Johnaldo and one every five minutes after that. jigging was fun too.... Lots of work. Our coach jodingo!! was cheering us wheeling in.....

  26. I got fun with you gays, inside and outside, with beer or not. I give all of me every game, but we can not demand more. We do our best. Tano, be content with what you do.

  31. I'm happy Jorge You know me,
There is nothing wrong talk about team and some strategies on the blog I love to do that, My English became clear and I have not that foreign accent and I have time to think and translate my ideas or though, I have some knowledge of play soccer.
I try to explain Sunday at the practice.
Hulk is out and EL Gato so who will be the Goalkeeper we can ask Hallil to bring Roberto el chocador(the crasher)he said he is a goalkeeper too.

Johnaldo: If we keep doing what you said about short passes near of our own area we still start the game loosing it.
Why? because when we have Goggo and La Boca they clear it the ball quick and then is when we create dangerous situation to score and the 1st half.
We do that when we start everybody do short passes until we loose the ball close to our goal, and when we have chance to attack their defense are very well ready to do double team on each fwd.
So will keep talking Sunday is my time to talk face to face with all.

hey Jorge. funny that one letter can change the dialog in an instant :-)

Tano, have not heard one phone call or email from LaBoca in weeks, so no point in figuring him in the equation. I'm interested in the guys who communicate and let us know if they can play or NOT (just as good). It is when you her nothing consistently, what are we supposed to do with that....get real!!

  33. .........Halil, can you please let us know if you, Ilhon and telat can play on Sunday?

    Thanks....

  34. Yes Bambi, The stripes are 35" to 30" down; by jigging is only blue mid size.
Hulk give us a Saturday afternoon and it was from those kind of dreams that you don't want to be wake up at all.
    THANK YOU Hulk.
And the company of all of you was awesome very nice group that we have.
    God bless you all.

  35. Roniildo:
Danny is nice guy but I believe he is more compromise on coaching. But that is not excuse to make a quick call to me and say: "Ruben I'm in or out".
    He really don't care anymore.
Carlos play like Danny on defense when he play with the other team, I saw him very solid but you know that.
Dave S. knows about this Sunday game?
I can Invite two more players if we need to complete at least 12.
One can be the Guy from Paraguay and Halil Brother too.
Let me know if you want to see how this guy play (the guy from Paraguay) his name is Victor.
