NEXT GAME; Sunday 25th April, Bridgeport B

After a great winning start away from home we have our first home game of the season against our old rivals Bridgeport. We always have a good competitive game with Bridgeport so we will need everyone to be on top form. We also need to use our subs effectively! If we actually do have 16 guys turning up this Sunday then we can certainly keep players fresh throughout the game. Last week half the team were down to walking or shuffling pace by the end of the game! We can't afford that against Bridgeport or they will beat us!

Ruben is on beer duty and let's hope the weather plays fair and the planned rain comes after we start the game. We will do a weather check during Saturday, so watch the blog for any late breaking news! For those of you that have never played at our home ground the driving instructions are in the 'Pages ' section of the blog.

See you all Sunday and keep your fingers crossed that there is no rain! We will try a team photo before the game!

  2. John,
We are playing against the Bridgeport B division not the A division (Astrit's team). This is the team who won only one game last year and that was against us. Remember we had 55 shot on goal and lost 2-1

  3. I will keep track of subs with my stop watch. 15 minutes rotations. Anybody walking would be subed

  15. Guys,

    1. don't forget your pic. (passport size)

    2. The forcast is rainy for this Sunday and hope it won't ruin our game. Behrooz (field coordinator) should check the field early in the morning in case of rain the night before or before the start of the game. Town of Madison is very sensitive about this and they will ban using the field if it gets bad..

    3. I have sent Drew's infor. to the league..he is not registered until I receive the new roster and his pass. Bruce will start as a goalie since Behrooz will be the watchman.

  16. Being a watchman doesn't mean I am not going to play. We can switch and sub goalie same as subbing field players.

  17. Good practice yesterday at Calvin Leete School.
We have the big field and was 11 vs. 11 for at least 1 HS.
Just one player from us :(

    "ABOUT SUNDAY RAINS"
If we have rain and is not game at our field how about push to 12PM our game after the Guilford Hawks Game ends at Guilford HS.
They don't care when is rain, because is a turf field.
This is an idea for Tom, John and El Gato, who can look forward and organize with who is in charge of that field and who can shows at that time too.

  18. I know that Behrooz....of course you are going to play...you now have a sub...let's Bruce start and see what he can do....and you will cover for another half..

Ruben, we have to have a permission to use the Guilford HS field....may be John can since he lives in Guilford...he is less than 1.5 hrs to get that field....good luck

  20. Guys

when you wake up on Sunday morning and it is raining i would guess that the game is off!

Madison does not allow their field to be played on when it rains.....even though the water the field sometimes 30 minutes before we play! This rule would never work in Scotland!!
Makes me think that we should find a good alternate home field for this type of event that comes up more often than we would like...

  22. Guys

what should we do with the weather check on the game tomorrow? Says 70% chance of rain early in the morning then cloudy with some rain. I guess we have two obvious choices; Cancel today so everyone gets enough notice or Wait until early tomorrow but inform everyone by 8am if game is on or off. What do you think? I'm not sure exactly what the rules are for our crappy little overprotected field but i would guess that if it has rained an hour before the game you can't play?

We do need to have a better option than this though every time it rains. Are all Madison fields under the same rain restrictions? Can we not find an alternate field that we can go to?

Alternatively, if we have a home game that is being rained off can we negotiate to play the game away from home if they have no rain restrictions? Does Bridgeport have a rain restriction?

I played in the rain all the time when i lived in the UK ....that was normal.

Behrooz ....as field guy what do you think? And if we are going to cancel the game should we attempt to play it away for tomorrow..... that would cut down our squad number worries for sure! If we do want to do the away game switch we need to organize it early today

  23. John,
Usually we can not play on the field if there is standing water. Also, Town has a website that post if they feel the field should be close and usually by 7,7:30 is posted. I never checked the website and I remember Rob used to do that. Anyways, I will check the field by 6:30 am and post it on the blog my findings. We should check the blog by 8am before leaving the house.
Also, Closure ruleapplies to all town fields so we do not have another option unless finding another field in another town as home field.

  24. If any Madison resident remembers the website please let me know. I searched and could not find/remember the site.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Ok, thanks El Gato.... so the current plan will be an early morning check to see if the fields are closed....then call round/ post if game cancelled?

  26. Hi Guys,
Weekly Hoof report. I have put my foot down twice in the last 24 hours on a normal-looking surface and had my ankle completely lose it... so as much as I'd like to push it, my ankle is definitely NOT ready. You guys have a great game if it's not raining, I'll return when I can. Tom, thanks anyway for trying to get my league pass for tomorrow.

  27. Hello All,

According to http://www.weather.com all or most of Connecticut could be in for a lot of soaking rain on Sunday as severe and stormy weather comes from out of the midwest where they have had severe thunderstorms and tornadoes. According to weather.com the rain will start in the early hours of Sunday and could be downpours by the time most Sunday league games kick-off at 9:00 AM through 11:00 AM.

To all SASL teams, please may I remind you that if your game is postponed or abandoned owing to the weather you MUST still report your game as such per SASL Rules & By-Laws rule C.17. Please do not assume we automagically know that you haven't played.

SASL teams may also post on the "SASL Schedule Google Group" at http://groups.google.com/group/SASLSCHEDULE/ if your game is postponed. This is a group designed for SASL players and CSRA referees to access information regarding postponements owing to weather, possible field location changes, etc. This is ONLY a convenience for teams and referees before they travel, it should not be confused with reporting scores and postponements, you still also have to send me an email for that (to garry.archer@gmail.com).

Good luck tomorrow. I hope our games are still on.

If your game is postponed tomorrow, please be proactive and arrange a make-up date as soon as possible. Do not leave it until the end of the season. We have seen teams burnt by this delay before (they run out of time and the game becomes forfeited, which also comes with an expensive fine).

  28. El Gato/Bor, is the game on? If not, is TomA informing the Bridgeport Team and referee.

Tom, if ON, IsArnie registered yet? Don't want him to drive from Woodbridge and miss his kid' game if you didn't get him on the roster please reply ASAP
