Eagles Crash Land!

Report By El Gato!
" This one is for the record books "

Great played game and a well deserved win for Madison Celtic on their last indoor game of the season. Final score 8-5 against the best indoor team, Guilford Black Eagles. Quick goal by Carlito at the beginning of the game was highlight of a wonderful match starter. However, it did not take long for Guilford attackers to put an equalizer pass, still sleepy from previous game, El Gato. Some sloppy plays and too many red shirts unmarked gave an advantage to the Guilford team and Madison finished the first half trailing 4-2. The second half was another story. Great defensive plays by Tom and Dejan and tight coverage by Ronildo, Carlito and Drew definitely choked the Guilford offense. Not to mention great saves by El Gato giving another dimension to the game. Madison was on fire, fantastic passing and great control of the game in midfield by Ronildo and Carlito gave great momentum to the game and Guilford goalie was bombarded by goals from Ruben and Halil. In second half Madison scored 6 goals and allowed only one unfortunate own goal from a defensive deflection. Great performance guys and great finish of the indoor season.

The Eagles Landed……with a big THUD!

Although our results in indoor this session have been mixed, we finished very strong tonight with a thoroughly deserved 8-5 win over the Guilford Eagles…Well done bhoys!

We lined up with Tom, Carlos in the back, Halil, Bambi and Roniildo in the middle, with Ruben and Dejan up front, and of course with El Gato in goal after his amazing performance last week:o). We came out of the blocks with some blazing paced runs and excellent passing between Carlos, Halil, Ruben and Dejan, which stunned the Eagles with 2 early strikes from Ruben and Carlos: 2-0 Celtic. I think we were also dazed by how easy it seemed for us to penetrate and score on what is usually a stalwart Eagle s defense. We either got a little complacent, or were daydreaming about why all the Guilford squads are named after birds (Eagles, Hawks…Chickens), but we lost our way, and 4 quick goals from them brought us back to reality. Dejan pulled deeper into midfield, and we organized into a man to man defense, as we realized we were giving them too much time on the ball, hence the reason for their easy goals. This worked really well, and we shut down their offense, and through hard work and patience we added another two to finish the half at 4-4.

The second half saw Celtic start very aggressive, as in the first half. The potent combination of speed and accurate passing all the way from Tom, Carlos and Dejan in defense through Bambi and Roniildo in midfield created easy scoring chances for Halil and Ruben who never missed in front of goal tonight! We poured in four more, with Eagles only managing the one in the second half to end the season in awesome style. Halil’s boot camp training is really paying off, with an outstanding performance tonight. that in my humble opinion, just pipped Tom or Carlos for man of the match!!! Key to tonight’s victory was definitely organization and structure, with every man doing his job and not wandering out of position. Great effort lads! Some of us were so pumped we stayed on to play with “the other” Madison team, and pummeled the Durham team, usually our Celtic nemesis.

In the end this indoor season, we played 13 (6 wins and losses and 1 tie), scoring 83 and losing 67….great effort boys.

  2. Carlos:
You see how cruel life is?
We have hat trick and the Celtic Press don't put at least a single line in the New Haven Register.
We have to ask Messi rep. how he is all over the news for the same thing that we do.
Shame on Tom and his committee.

  4. Ruben, looks like the Celtic press were too busy describing how bad Glasgow Celtic are at the moment to notice how good you and Carlos were! Celtic got knocked out of the Scottish cup yetserday by a lower league team!

Thank you to all teams that reported their scores (even if to the wrong email address!) only three teams "forgot" and they have been assessed a "score not reported" in the standings.

Apologies for my outburst in my previous email regarding email addresses, but I felt I had to nip that one in the bud pretty sharpish. Updating the SASL Website is taking a lot of my time (both Saturdays and Sundays) and seems to be more than ever. I would rather have less to do and enjoy my weekends more, not more to do. As most of you know I have had to deal with some technical issues with the Website this past few couple of months and it was a lot of time, effort and, yes, stress. I know on the outside sending a score report to the wrong address seems trivial, but when many people were doing it, it actually causes me more work and I wasn't having any of that. I do hope you understand. Nothing personal. Just tired, that's all. I am sure that once we iron out these wrinkles things will go much more smoothly.

It was a beautiful day to play soccer, so I am glad we all got out to play today. What a great start to the second half of the season.

As I started to collate and compile the scores I was amazed at how many draws (ties) there were, and I noticed several teams who were at or near the bottom of the standings of their respective divisions defeated, or at least tied, teams much higher up the table. Examples:

In the Over-30 League First Division last-placed Westport FC won their first game of the season against 4th-placed Stratford United. Westport moved off the bottom with that result. In the Second Division, last-placed Waterbury Cabo Verde won only their second game of the season, beating 4th-placed Ridgefield Kicks. In the Third Division, last-placed Stratford SC in the West Division beat 3rd-placed Caseus New Haven FC in the East Division.

In the Masters League First Division, 9th-place Guilford Black Eagles defeated traditional powerhouse Cheshire Azzurri, who were 3rd, in Cheshire. It was Cheshire second only loss. Bottom club Vasco da Gama CC didn't beat the undefeated 1st-placed Greenwich Gunners, but only lost by the slimmest of margins, 1-0. In the Second Division, Norwalk Napoli won their first game of the season against Cheshire Inter FC moving them from 9th to 8th. Fairfield GAC, who were 8th but with only one win all season, held 1st placed South East Xara to a 1-1 draw. Rowayton FC's win away at Trumbull Tip Top means they leap frog Xara in to 1st place. Guilford Bell Curve, still looking for their first win of the season, held 3rd-placed Easton Rhinos to a 2-2 draw. In the Third Division, another bottom-placed club, Hamden United, beat 4th-place Wallingford Morelia.

So, lots of David beating Goliath type of stories today, which emphasises the moral that you should never underestimate your opponents, no matter how lowly they appear in the standings.

    Cheers,

  8. Hello All,

I updated the CSSA Website (http://cssasoccer.com) on Sunday, April 11th:

    1. Updated 2010 USASA National Cups Page -- with more information from the USASA Region I and a link to the latest draw, schedule and scores.

    2. NEW 2010 USASA National Cups Scores (Connecticut Teams) on the 2010 USASA National Cups Page.

You should visit the new scores page, but we are pleased to announce that in the Men's Open Cup Region I First Round played today Danbury United defeated Boston Olympiakos (MA) 2-1 to progress to the Second Round in another home match versus Fernabache USA (E-NY) on May 2nd. Unfortunately, Stamford Olympia lost their First Round match 1-0 away to Go-Soccer FC (NJ).

In the Men's Over-30 Cup the Region I First Round is scheduled to be played next Sunday, April 18th. Danbury United will play West Chester United Predators (E-PA) at home, Bristol Italians will play NYAC (E-NY) at home and Club Napoli were scheduled to play away at NY Greek Americans (E-NY). The NY Greek Americans, however, are forfeiting to Club Napoli because they could not field a team that particular day, their players had other commitments elsewhere. Club Napoli will meet the winners of the Bristol Italians v NYAC (E-NY) match in the Second Round on May 9th.

  15. Guys,
I am away for the most of the week and be back on Saturday. Few important notes:
    1. The game is at Southington Rec. park for this Sunday and some of us can carpool from Madison Circle Pizza parking @ 8:30. Please let us know if you planning to be there. IF going directly, the directions are on the website www.carsl.org and look for Southington FC in Spring. Most of us have played on that field many times before.
    2. For Home games, we have been using Tom J. corner flags and he has been nice enough letting us to use them. We need to buy new flags that I can return his for the next Home game on the 25th of April.
    3. I have a new goalie (Bruce) who is very interested to play and may be I can have him to come to our game on 25th. Also, Jim is is interested to play goalie and need to let him know if we need him back. Let me know about your feedback please.
    4. I am waiting to receive the new roster with ruben's name on it.

    I think that's it if I didn't miss anything.

    Thanks
