Not a Charlie Sheen among us but we are winners!
Yes, a great performance against a Southeast Xara team who had just beaten the Guilford Black Eagles, sent the team off to the bar with a smile. The pulsating 5-3 victory for the Celts was well deserved and about time! Having had probably the worst session of indoor soccer in their history ( 1 win in 8 games! ) the Celts have now moved into a more comfortable mediocrity with one win, one draw and one loss. The signs are good though that the team is now finding some good form and the players are starting to get in shape..... well some of them.
The game started with a frenzy of shots by the opposition that hit every post and bar available to them in the Hulks goal. If it missed those, the Hulk was there to block it. After this onslaught by the Xara team a fantastic long range shot by Halil, that nearly burst through the net, gave Madison the lead. Two more goals by David and Tano made the score a comfortable 3 0 by half time. But, as is always the case, two defensive errors, bad passes from defence to midfield, allowed the Xara team to claw back two goals. Another goal by us and another by them made it 4-3 to Madison heading into the last few minutes of the game. It did look that the Celts were starting to wilt under pressure and maybe Xara would find a late equalizer but not this time. Some great saves by the Hulk, fighting for his place after the scintillating from of El Gato, and some good defensive clearances kept the Xara team at bay. In fact, El Gato also showed some of his great defensive qualities in this game with some nifty footwork and tackles! The team was still stressing when a great shot by Tano brought an anxiety relieving fifth goal for the Celts who ran out deserved 5-3 winners!
The next game is scheduled to be against Cardiac Arrest on St Paddy's day. Having met Goggs in the bar he doubted any of them will be sober enough to turn up to play us so we may need another plan for that night. If we have more players we can have a scrimmage match? If they do turn up drunk then we can have a laugh.... either way we should plan to be there to play.
We also need to agree on an AGM night and location. So far we have Thursday 24th March as a possibility as a a few of you can't make Friday the 18th. Who is OK with the 24th?

ReplyDeletehttp://www.stitchgifts.com/sasl/saslschedule10-11.htm
Like Jodingo, i will slowly be coming out of hibernation.
Winter break was good. My hockey team won 2 championships in a row. Like I tell my bhoys in hockey (i'm coach/player), talent is not everything - team chemistry, balance in your line up, and effort on both side of the rink - are the basis of a winning team. They listened and got rewarded!
Anyway, I've stayed in shape (i'm round), and can't wait to put my foot on the ball, or somebody's beind!
See you soon!
Welcome back Jack.:)
ReplyDeleteJodingo we practice on Sunday morning at Jared Eliot elementary School Clinton. The address is 69 Fairy Dell Road Clinton, CT 06413-2499
But the entrance is from the back of the school at half block of Ninety road.
We start at 9 to 11 am
Fribeka 2 championships?? how many games do you play in Hockey to win a championship...2?
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm glad talent is not everything!! But i agree...teamwork goes a long way!
Byern Vs Inter start now also
ReplyDeleteInverness Vs Celtic and
ManU vs Olympique.
Tano Inverness vs Celtic is tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteYou right John they was reschedule for tomorrow
ReplyDeleteI don't give you the result of the match Byern vs Inter (because DVR watchers) but I tell what the score was change 3 times good match, very good 2nd. half.
Looks like it was a great game Tano.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tano....I'll try to be there as long as the weather is good.
ReplyDeleteI'm one of the guys from Cardiac Arrest, who you are supposed to play tomorrow night at 8. As Tim told you, we can't field a full team tomorrow. I left a message for Stan at Sportsplex saying that you still want the timeslot however. Is it ok with you guys if the few from CA who can make it show up and play with you tomorrow?
ReplyDeleteAlso, I would like to schedule a 10:00 game between our teams in one of the remaining weeks. If you confirm that Celtic is up for it, I can try to schedule.
Paul
ReplyDeleteno problem, the more the merrier for tomorrow night. I will ask the guys if anyone is up for playing a 10pm game sometime over the next few weeks?
I would sign up for it, anyone else?
Behrooz
ReplyDeleteYou must have a second shirt listed. If there is a conflict in shirt colors with opponents colors, the home team must have a change of color shirt with numbers. Home team changes.
Ken
We can do that. Although there are only 4 teams in the World that I know of that clash with green and white hoops
ReplyDeleteSorry - League Rules say you do it. All white and all green will clash.
ReplyDeleteKen
Joking aside. Really? Have you seen a Celtic shirt recently? In no way will that clash with all white or all green shirts. Even Celtic playing against Hibs in the days of black and white TV didn't clash! If you say these are the rules then I will ask my team to spend even more money buying numbered shirts but I think it's an unnecessary expense at a time when people are counting their dollars.
ReplyDeleteYou know the rules. If you do not have a change shirt for a game, you would forfeit the game with fines.
ReplyDeleteCheck the Managers list and see all teams have a second shirt listed.
I know you are a new manager, but rules are rules and you do not have an exception to the rule.
OK Guys in the SASL rules are rules... even though the Celtic shirt is one of the more vividly non clashing shirts in World soccer we need to abide by the "rules". I suggest we go with black shirts and white numbers. I did this for the Atlantic Rovers trip to Scotland so some of us have them already. Black shirts will be cheap to get too. We need this in place for the first home game of the season on April 10th so i will see if i can buy a bunch of different sizes in black this weekend..... someone needs to check the SASL rule book for any more hidden gems
ReplyDeleteI take Large.
ReplyDeleteYou take large what?

ReplyDeleteAttention SASL coordinator and Team Manager:
ReplyDeleteI have the alternative jersey since last summer provide it by Our sponsor Dunkin Donuts.
Sorry John that I never mentioned to you but like you said we never have to use an alternative shirt, but keep on record that the shirts are green with a white patch and black numbers on back. (I will send you a photo asap)
Sorry for the miscommunication.
Regards, Ruben Tenaglia
Hi tano. The shirt cannot be green or white. Their rules say our green and white hoops clash with all green or all white. I know. ... Makes no sense but it does mean our alternative shirt has to be neither of those colors . That's why I suggested black. .... To match my mood...
ReplyDeleteEl Gato.... We are waiting....large what?
ReplyDeleteJohnaldo:
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry that I give you the idea to change for SASL league, but I keep on mind how they are.I remember the whole purpose of change from CARSL to SASL was the three referees and we start in the year when the "rules" was changed by playing with only one referee in the 3rd. division.
Why a league that is so called recreational be so restricted with the people who pay for playing?.
Any ways keep fwd. for any problem there is a solution, and we have solve this issue any how.
Joy the Tummy. ;)
Cheers.
I see.
ReplyDeleteThen we keep with old blacks shirts.
everybody have a black shirt I will bring white spray paint (Jorge style) lol.
Thanks Tano. Yes this league has a lot of rules Probably too many for over 40 soccer. I'm sure there is a reason that it is run this way but I'm not exactly sure why. Anyway I can get some black shirts for all of us and keep the officials of the league happy. We will never use them..... Unless we have a color blind referee who has lost the ability to discern horizontal and vertical lines..... Hey it could happen?
ReplyDeleteI believe El gato want a black large...shirt.
ReplyDeleteTano we get the shirt that matches what John already have. And yes I take a large one..... Shirt
ReplyDeleteEl Gato. Thanks. I know you need the large one......what's all the fuss about?
ReplyDeleteRalphy no fuss, if you know why are you keep on asking....
