MATCH REPORT; East Haven 0 Madison 3

Another second half revival by the Celts was enough to see off a spirited East Haven team on a field that would not have been out of place in Lilliput. Even Gulliver would have complained about the teeny dimensions of the field that allowed The Hulk's kick outs to become one of the main attack weapons for the team. A superb fifteen minute start by the Celts came somewhat unstuck by the same general first half lethargy that has hit all of Madison's games this season.

Having had total control of the ball and of the the game, passes started to go astray and increasingly the last resort was a long ball to the chronically offside front line. This really started to unhinge the shape of the team but luckily East Haven were in no position to take advantage. Their attacks were scare and feeble at best although with the game precariously balanced at nothing each they did have the best chance of the game when a shot had to be cleared off the line, hockey style, by the The Hulk to prevent the home side taking an undeserved lead. This was the first and only action The Hulk had to take in the game and he could have spent the rest of the game fishing in the Atlantic with a cardboard cut out left in his place!

As both sides edged towards a tied first half the notable features for Madison were the great performances being put in by Jorge up front and Halil in midfield closely followed by the running and blocking of Fribeka.

The second half saw Madison take more and more control of the game with more shots on goal and a lot more possession. It was maybe a slight surprise that when the breakthrough came it would be off the head of the opposition defender as he flicked a great Talet cross into his own goal to give the Celts the lead. This spurred the team on to greater heights with their passing and wing play becoming much more probing and incisive. East Haven were really beginning to toil under this type of unrelenting pressure and a second goal was clearly coming and when it did it was a work of art. The ball broke to El Flaco, probably 35 yards out, and he did not hesitate for a second to fire in a screamer of a shot that dipped at the last minute to leave the opposition goalie clawing at air as the ball sailed over his head and into the net. Yet another goal of the season contender from the maestro Carlos and a well deserved two goal lead for Madison. After this the Celts continued to push and sealed the deal with a third goal when the ball broke across the East Haven goalmouth allowing the lurking Jorge to round off a great personal performance by scoring Madison's third of the day.

Several chances came and went for the Celts to add to their lead but at full time the score stood at 3 - 0.

Man of the Match; Jorge A superb running and passing game by Jorge was the standout performance of the day. Always available for the pass, always making the intelligent run and scoring a great poachers goal at the end! Good showings by Halil and Fribeka in the second half completed their sterling performances throughout. And of course the touch of genius by El Flaco made the game memorable! Thanks to The Hulk and TomA for a truly superb array of post game beers and great chicken wings and guacamole from El Flaco!

Thanks to TomA and Hulk for the beers and awesome wings and quacamole from skinny!!!

    Guys,
The first 15 min were superb today. Tons of short and quick passing. If we can do that for 90 min, we'll be hard to beat.

U are awesome, and again tpink, so sorry about forgetting your pass today...:-(

Let's get another 3 points next week. The amazing Hulk is in FL for his baseball tournament....bring it home Hulk. El Gato is in goal next week....thanks B!!!!

  10. Guys. We moved up to third in the league one point behind orange and guilford...... Morelia were beaten by Branford!!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Wow! Your camera put on 10lbs on Tano, and 20 years on me! LOTB please come back! :o)

Johnaldo, Great report once again, and good win! but we can do a hell lot better - and we will have to against Guilford next week!
So much talent on our team that it is frustrating to see how we go from a simple controlled passing game executed to perfection every time in the first 10-15 min. of a game, to suddenly, for no reason, lose total composure! We won't have that luxury against good teams!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Fribeka.... I agree. Somehow we need to keep the same focus.... We are a very good team but we make it hard for ourselves..... Simple passing... Remember the basics. .....play to your strenghths. All easy stuff. No?

    ReplyDelete
  13. For me was a bad day after Carlitos El flaco take the free kick goal out of mind, and Safet misunderstand, plus the last selfish weak kick.
But revenge will came soon, like always.
The bright side of it, was we won the game and the beers and snack was great many thanks for happy ending.
Now something to make laugh on gray Monday morning.
    God bless you all.

    No Hablo Ingles sorry;-)))

    ReplyDelete
  14. Good report Johnaldo, but it must be pointed out, and I'm sure you'll agree, that the solid defensive backbone allowed us to play with confidence up front! : )

We lost our focus when we started lobbing the ball forward to off-side or marked strikers. We must continue the smart, short passes all the way through to their box. No more, or at the least, very infrequent, long balls should be played, as we unnecessarily give away possession.

Great job with the brew assortment, Hulk and Tom! And the wings were some of the best I've tasted! Thanks, Carlos!

  17. About Love Boat trip, we have one full at ready.
(Just kidding, no love in that boat just fishing and fishing that's all,) ok, ladies? ;)
That will we great, thanks Hulk for the idea and the good deal too.

  18. Hulk,
Fishing for what, and where? If you're going somewhere OK for a 23 foot mako, I can drive my boat and comfortably take 4. If you're headed offshore, it's probably not a great idea in Oct. to be on a boat that size. P.S., fished Montauk yesterday, caught some nice ablies for fun...

    Bambi

    ReplyDelete
  19. Bambi, Boat leaves out of Old Saybrook, between the bridges....day trip for stripers...or in your case, strippers...so, you could probably use your boat to join in.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Make sure you keep off the rocks though Bambi.....

    ReplyDelete
  21. Great report John. I had a nice buzz driving home. Ended up mowing the lawn after. This morning my lawn looked like a maze. Not a good idea to mow the lawn after drinking.

    ReplyDelete
  22. ........so is the boat really full??? that's what my wife said too LOL...Oh well, I'm not going in the other boat on my own. let me know HULK!

    ReplyDelete
  23. ............El Gato, our friendly shoreline coppers could be checking out the blog...you were drinking soda...no

    ReplyDelete
  24. .......oh BTW Jodingo!! I passed on your charming analysis of my green spectacles last night to my wife, who completely rejected the notion that they make me look "really gay" LOL..I had better bring my others to the match on Sunday for your approval before we travel to Scotland......we do have separate rooms...right Johnaldo ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  25. ........as far as the passing goes, as John says, keep it simple and the motre possession we will retain throughout the games. It also makes us look good, and frustrates the opposition.

    ReplyDelete
  26. ........hey, new book that should be mandatory reading for all of us..."exploring happiness: From Aristotle to Brain Science by Sissela Bok...this would help with our team building...LOL

    ReplyDelete
  27. El Gato.... atleast your were cutting the lawn and not your hair!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Roniildo.... What position does Aristotle play? Him and Plato would be the logical midfield to go with.....

    ReplyDelete
  29. El Gato Loco!! Yikes!

Roniildo....you can have my spot on the big boat if you'd like. I can do it anytime, so you should take the spot. But, yes, I'm sure everyone on board would feel more comfortable if you left those flaming shades at home!

    ReplyDelete
  30. El Gato...I think we need a picture of that lawn of yours....sounds like you could charge admission and have kids run through it! just like the corn maze at Lymans!

    ReplyDelete
  31. ......Jodingo!! no way...you keep your spot. I'll check in earlier next time:-)

    ReplyDelete
  32. ..........Johnaldo, Aristotle would be center mid and Plato to his left...just like Halila nd Fribeka now........HAHA

    ReplyDelete
  33. Roniildo... i think they would have philosophical issues with those positions

  36. Ha! Arniesto, that's a riot! Looks like a lot like MCFC!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Arniesto..... That Socrates is some player. He was great with Brazil.....and who would have thought Plato was a goalie? El Plato ??

    ReplyDelete
  38. Plato is truly a philosopher whom we could all idolize. One of his best quotes, "He was a wise man who invented beer."

    ReplyDelete
  39. And he could be our coach with lessons like, "He who is not a good servant will not be a good master." It's al about teamwork!

    ReplyDelete
  40. And he would be excellent at orchestrating our substitution, "It is right to give every man his due."

    ReplyDelete
  41. ..........i knew the mere mention of Aristotle would get Arniesto in the mix ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  42. Another Socrates quote that would work for our team;

    Know yourself!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Aristotle shows the way;

Our characters are the result of our conduct.

    ReplyDelete
  44. .............Jodingo!! this one is for you, as you prepare for Scotland ;-)

..."Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies."

  45. Here is what I got so far for fishing trip:

    ReplyDelete
  46. .............HULK, some confusion. Can everyone on the list now get in the same boat...the guys are trying to send me on a boat on my own!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Roniildo... who is that a quote from? Beyonce??

    ReplyDelete
  48. Roniildo ....i believe some of the guys wanted you to be towed in the dingy behing us in the main boat but I believe I talked them out of it.....................

    ReplyDelete
  49. Roniildo...... Have you heard of "chum"? ......an. Exciting role in fishing!!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Is getting sea sick a problem??? ;-)
I am in hulk. Thanks for arranging it.

    ReplyDelete
  51. .................Johnaldo, I have heard of chum, which has several meanings. I also remember it as the most successful dog food in Scotland....the quote was lame, which is why Jodingo!! didn't even bother to respond.

...Hulk, I'll call you today..I see we have a new fishing player...El Gate!

    ReplyDelete
  52. El gato -
Short answer is 'yes'. This time of year it's likely you'll be in some decent seas. Either get a Scopolamine patch (best) or buy Dramamine II (also sold under the drug name Meclizine). Put the patch on the night before, or if using Meclizine take 50 mgs the night before when you hit the sack and another 25-50 in the morning. It'll make you sleepy and thirsty, but it's a hell of a lot better than being sea sick.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Roniildo, You're scaring me with quotes like that and those green weenie glasses....

    ReplyDelete
  54. ...........OK, no more scary quotes Jodingo!!

    ReplyDelete
  55. ............big game coming up on Sunday boys

Who's in: I know Hulk is in FL for baseball...Goodluck Hulk....hope you win (but if you do, does that mean you miss more Celtic games ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'm in. This is a MUST WIN game for us.

    ReplyDelete
  57. El Flaco is in also. Not sure about Jorge. Will check with him.

    ReplyDelete
  58. ......Thanks Jodingo....pressure Jorge, we really need him this week. He can have a rest for the following week's game a gainst the bottom placed club

    Jodingo!!
    Flaco
    Roniildo
    TANO
    Telat
    Ilhon
    Halil

    ReplyDelete
  59. He can't have a rest the following week....five of us will be out....4 to Scotland and also Fribeka. We will have to get as many players to the field as we can for the game on the 26th!

On that note, we should talk this up soon to make sure we have a solid team on the field for that game, as well as for this week's game.

    ReplyDelete
  60. .............Jorge needs to defend his man of the match title this week ;-)

    ReplyDelete

tell me as soon as you get Roberto's ID pass

    ReplyDelete
  63. Does Roberto have a numbered jersey?

    ReplyDelete
  64. .........yes Johnaldo..np. Not there yesterday evening.

    ReplyDelete
  65. he has a shirt but no number..... told him to get no 19 on it...you have Jorge's?

    ReplyDelete
  66. I took Jorge's and El Gato's jerseys in for numbers yesterday. They wouldn't guarantee that the shirts would be done by Friday, so they may have to wear their old jerseys (El Gato is aware of this, Jorge isn't.)

    ReplyDelete
  67. Thanks Bambi I usually take Dramamine on the cruise and works well for me I probably stick to that.
I am in and let's get Laboca on the list for this Sunday.
As Roniildo said we also need a big commitment from rest of the team for our game on the 26th at 8:30 in Hamden. We need everybody to show up besides the missing 5. We need to win that game forsure.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Jodingo!!
    Flaco
    Roniildo
    TANO
    Telat
    Ilhon
    Halil

  69. El Gato, I like your idea of being on La Boca's doorstep at 7:30 a.m. on the 26th...might want to do that in earnest@

    ReplyDelete
  70. La Boca may be training the kids of the future......

    ReplyDelete
  71. ..............still, it would be good to know Johnaldo, as LaBoca is a key player for us!

    ReplyDelete
  72. .........just noticed how much i hate those old woolen green socks that telat is wearing in the pics..LOL I will bring him a white pair...they will make him look as if he is running even faster than normal!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Maybe we should take up a collection to replace Tomassito's black shorts.....what do you say Tom?

  79. We have Great season of volunteer, we always have beers and snacks since Im the CBO Chief Beers Organizer :).
I have no volunteer asigned for this weekend yet, because I can't ask over and over at the same Guys. So I have two fair choices:
first choice is: can everybody bring leftovers beers? if You guys have some obviously.
Second one: I will bring the beers, because I responsible for it.
If you want to know who never bring beers there is the guys who drinks once in wile so I can't ask for it.
    TomA & Hulk
    Johnaldo & Roniildo
    El Gato
    La Boca
    Tano
This (above) was the last volunteers, but I know when BOR was organized Jodiidngo bring many times so I can't ask him again.
