MATCH REPORT; Milford 1 Madison 4

MAGICAL MADISON BLOW MILFORD AWAY

Madison went top of the league today with a scintillating display of controlled, assertive possession and superb clinical finishing. Milford Magic were easily blown off their perch at the top of the table with a season best performance from the Celts. Madison started the game on fire and held over 90% of the possession for most of the first 30 minutes of the game. The undefeated league leaders Milford did not know what had hit them and looked devastated as the ball became a total stranger to them. This was easily the best performance of the season so far from Madison. Almost every player on the field was up for the game and playing to their best form. La Boca started in an advanced midfield position allowing a slightly injured El Flaco to play at the back. A new player called Safet also had his debut today and what a game he had! Celtic dominated the opening skirmishes of the game with some great interplay between midfield and the strike force. Halil and Roniildo held possession well, as did La Boca, feeding the ball to Tano and Safet. Jorge playing in a slightly deeper forward role was also playing some great one touch passing and overall Milford Magic could do nothing in the opening half hour to get the ball out of their half. The unoccupied Madison goalie, Bruce, was so bored he was seen in the distance finishing a detailed tapestry depicting the last Red Sox World series win! But, Madison have been in this position before dominating possession and losing a sucker goal and failing to take their own chances. Not this time, not this game. The first goal for Madison came from the golden boot of Jorge after he found himself in a position outside the Milford box. It did not look like there was any chance for him to do what he did which was to curl the ball over and past the despairing dive of the Milford goalie to nestle the ball in the corner of the net. A well deserved opener for the Celts, and as they kept pressing a second was not to be denied them. This time a great ball out to Bambi on the right side of the field allowed him to sweep the ball into the box where Tano was their to crunch the ball into the net for the Celts second of the match. At this point in the game Madison could have scored 4 or 5 more but maybe were trying a bit too hard and were leaving some gaps at the back. Against the run of play the lone Milford striker went on a fast break trailing Carlos and Roniildo in his wake. When he got to the Celtic penalty box he did not hesitate to slot the ball past Bruce to cut the Celts lead in half. The goal clearly shook the Madison team out of their slight lethargy and set up a swift response with a fantastic move that swept the ball up the right side of the field this time to La Boca who sent a sweet, inch perfect ball into the box that was met by Safet who tucked it into the net for his debut goal and Madison's third of the game. The half finished with Madison in total control of the game and some superb first half performances by almost all of the team.

The second half started with Madison still exerting significant possession and showing some really creative play. Not surprisingly Milford where getting more of the ball this half as the Celts tired but whenever they got a shot on target Bruce was there to meet the challenge. However, the game was effectively finished as a contest when debut bhoy Safet scored his second and Madison's 4th of the game after only ten minutes of the second half. The rest of the half was a much more even game compared to the first half but the Celts were never in any real danger of losing another goal and eventually ran out well deserved winners and new league leaders.

Man of the Match; There were many contenders today as most of the midfield and strike force played so well but it would be churlish not to give the MOM to debut player Safet for his two great goals!

  1. Forgot my big black umbrella at the pitch! did anyone pick it up? Great win! we still need to sort out our subbing - there was confusion in the midfield in the second half in term of player/position! no damage today but in a close game???

    ReplyDelete
  2. Fribeka.... yes, Jorge picked it up and was dancing off the field with it pretending he was a young South American hooker....

  3. Just loaded a new video onto Madison Celtic TV..... Check it out!

Is the Best Comment that you made ever John,
because is everything in there, and is not too long, just Perfect, we did all well today and you end it with a gold brooch.
Very well addition we have today with the new player Safet(little picky on his wearing clothes but no one is perfect) :o).
La Boca was very calm (I like when he play like that), Carlos didn't arguing with the Referee. Well done Game.
also we didn't have a full Team today but looks like we start to make a Solid Team.
Roniildo You look 5 Years Younger with long sleeve nice picture Capitan.

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE for such a good time that I had today it make problems go away for a wile (without side effects, if you know what I means).

BTW: Nice Video too Specialty the song (hahaha It's magic with Milford Magic)

  7. Par excellence johnaldo, report and the video!

TANO, i think it must be the vertical orientation of the hoops when my arms are raised in victory :-))

Great match today bhoys. The possession passing, and the great finishing by Safet, Tano and Jorge were a joy to watch from the back.

Fribeka, hopefully Dejan will be back next week to exert his touch on the subbing, but your point well taken. In the 2nd half, a bit of a tendency to stay on too long when we started to tire!

We have some players out next week, but let's try hard to muster a strong roster and take another 3 points away!!!!!!!

johnaldo, I like that photo a lot...doesn't really look like me in real life, but I don't care. I can use it for my SASL photo....thanks

  8. b4 i forget, there was ambiguity about which field we will play at next week, which has ramifications about our picnic. we should try to nail this down asap, so we can plan. also, Scottie was going to try to make the game and picnic, so if it's not happening this week, let's make an early decision.....

  9. Well done guys! Sounds like we have a new, effective, striker too! Looking forward to rejoining you on the pitch soon.

I hope you are all going to watch the World Cup and support every team that plays England!

  15. Hello All,

I updated the SASL Website (http://saslsoccer.com) on Sunday, May 30th:

    1. Updated This Week's Results -- for June 3rd, June 5th and June 6th CSSA State Cup and SASL league games.

    2. Updated 2009-2010 League Table and All Results -- for June 6th.

    3. Updated 2009-2010 CSSA Over-30 State Cup Results and Standings -- the final was played and Champions determined.

    4. Updated 2009-2010 CSSA Over-40 State Cup Results and Standings -- the final was played and Champions determined.

    5. Updated All-time SASL Champions -- with the latest CSSA State Cup winners.

Thank you to all teams that reported their scores!

I sent out the CSSA State Cup news in a previous email, so no need to repeat that here. I tried to figure out if there are any new developments regarding promotion and relegation.

    In the Over-30 League:

First Division: Still nothing resolved, but Danbury United only need 3 more points from three games to be confirmed as Champions. Any team from 4th place down is still not safe from relegation!

Second Division: Norwalk Mariners will most likely be Champions, but this still needs to be confirmed mathematically (and the odds against will be extremely high!). Milford Tuesday or Derby Quitus will also be promoted. New Haven Americans and Waterbury Cabo Verde are relegated, and the third team to be relegated will be one of Ridgefield Kicks, Southeast Rovers or Newington Portuguese.

Third Division East: It appears North Branford SC will be in the Championship play-off game, but with North Haven SC still having a slim chance of catching them for top spot. Four teams will be fighting it out for the Third-Place play-off game.

Third Division West: Newtown Salty Dogs have won the division and are in the Championship play-off game. Bridgeport United, Stamford FC Tigin and Milford Amigos are contesting to be in the Third-Place play-off game.

    In the Masters League:

First Division: Greenwich Gunners are top, undefeated and have several make-up games and are therefore in strong pole position for the Championship. Vasco da Gama CC are relegated and one from the next five teams above them will join them in the Second Division next season.

Second Division: Rowayton FC and South East Xara are promoted, but which one will be Champions is still in question. Only one team gets relegated from thsi division this season and Guilford Bell Curve, without a win all season, must win their last two games to stand any chance of catching Fairfield GAC, who did themselves a massive favour today in winning 3-1 away at Cheshire Inter FC.

Third Division: It's a straight race between Sport Colombia FC and Albanian Eagles for the Championship and promotion.

    In the Over-48 League:

New Britain Falcons will be Champions -- unless they lose to Waterbury Pontes by something like 22 goals in the last game of the season!

Two weeks to go for most teams. Good luck everyone!

  18. Guys, great game yesterday

Just confirming that we have our first HOME game this Sunday against New Fairfield B at the Xchange field. So this weekend would be a good weekend to plan our first picnic after the game on the beach and hope the weather will cooperate.

So we need to organize the food items, drinks, beer, snacks, and picnic table reservation early in the morning. Just to let everyone know that Bruce is the Master grill chef. Friends, family members and kids are all invited of course.

    So let's start the menu:

    Burgers/specialty burgers Tom
    buba burgers
    Dogs
    chicken
    kebabs
    snacks
    Rob's speciallty dips
    beer
    drinks
    watermelon Tom
    bunns

We need to coordinate who's bringing what? You are welcome to bring anything you like and please copy and paste the food item with your name next to it. This way we can coordinate what everybody is bringing.

    Thank You

  19. that's great news Tom...! I can bring beer this weekend

  21. Funny match report Johnaldo....red sox tapestry? One depicting a Yankee win would be more recent and a lot more to choose from.......27 to be exact!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yeah Yeah.... the Crankees have won a few more.... quality wins count for more though.... that's why they deserve a tapestry!

    ReplyDelete
  23. yes, a few more...20 more....but who's counting, right?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ouch!.... cruel stuff Annie ;o)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Annie and I see eye-to-eye on at least this topic! Sox Suck

    ReplyDelete
  26. Yankeee fans are Crankee fans.....

    ReplyDelete
  27. BTW, on the schedule 06/20/10 shows a game against Orange????? Are they in our league???? Regardless, I refuse to play against a team wearing/called Oranje! bad karma!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Fribeka....will we notice the difference?

    LOL

  29. he knows I'm kidding!

  30. England Vs USA game this saturday at 2.30pm....anyone watching it in a bar with a big screen?

    ReplyDelete
  31. does Auger's have big screen?

    ReplyDelete
  32. dont know if it has any screen! What about Humphrey's?

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'd like to see it in a pub with good screens...I think Chips in Clinton would be decent viewing, though the crowd may not be the best. Augur's screens are lame. Not sure about Humphrey's...in Wallyworld? Dont recall big screens there. What else? Anna Liffey's, for sure, but a mob scene for sure also.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I thought our lady photgrapher would mind the grill and cook for us Sunday.....kidding, Annie, kidding!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Guys,

There is a new bar/restaurant in Madison just pass the Hammonassett's beach on Route 1 that I think has big screen TVs....and there is Eli's in Branford which I know for sure has a good bar with many big screen TVs. Auger's is too small and does't have TV's. Just remembered, Guilford Moorning has a big bar with TVs....we should all get together and watch it on big screen on Saturday

    ReplyDelete
  36. Mr. Jodingo!!,what a sexist comment to suggest the lady watch the grill and do the cooking! My plans have changed for Saturday and I was going to reconsider your invite but with comments like that, I cannot! Perhaps Mr. Roniildo, you will be watching the game and would enjoy some company?

    ReplyDelete
  37. The Humphreys is in Branford....

    ReplyDelete
  38. I'm up for watching it in a good bar though

    ReplyDelete
  39. Ha! Jodingo!! Susan Boyle always likes Roniildo.... he is such a gentleman!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Ms Susan, it would be my pleasure to enjoy your company to watch the match. Humphrey's in Branford is a splendid idea. Shall we say 2PM?

Proposed menu for next week's cookout looks mouth watering, but just want to check everyone is up for a major post game feast? I thought last time we talked about next picnic, we would go with beer, burgers and dogs, so should probably just take a pulse check b4 developing our culinary extravaganza...my 2c

    ReplyDelete
  41. Roniildo

Burgers, dogs and beer are good for me! And if you get Susan Boyle to turn up I will also eat my hat!

    ReplyDelete
  42. And i suggested Humphreys not Ms Susan...... I'm sure she has no idea of bars in CT!

    ReplyDelete
  43. good point johnaldo....didn't mean to parlay Humphrey's credit to Ms Susan. If she does to make a rare appearance, I'm sure Mr. Jodingo!! will provide suitable directions

    Humphrey's it is then everybody?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Jodingo!! Ms. Susan was a bit tough on you! I knew you were kidding!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Annie, Jodingo!! will be sitting in a darkened room totally crushed.... he loves Ms Susan....

    ReplyDelete
  46. Sounds like we can have a professional chef grill our burgers etc on Sunday..... Bruce!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Humphrey's off of exit 56 from I-95 sounds good to me. I am sure they have many big screens.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I go with just beer, dogs and Burgers too. Lets not make it too lavish. it might rain...

    ReplyDelete
  49. weather forecast looks ok for Sunday......so far

    ReplyDelete
  50. Humphrey's in Branford has ONE big screen in the smallish bar area (Augur's is bigger), and a bunch of small screens scattered throughout the rest of the restaurant/bar. Guilford Mooring, although it also has only one HUGE screen, might be a better suggestion.

I cannot make the BBQ after the game Sunday. My daughter has her final league match at noon on the field adjacent to where we'll be playing, then I have to coach the youngest kid at 2PM on yet another of the Exchange field complex.

I bet if you set up the grill next to Exchange field, you'll sell a bunch of food! Might be nice to put some money in the bank ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  51. BOR Sounds like the mooring is the better bet...do we know if its showing the game?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Guys.... just been confirmed that Celtic will be playing Sporting Lisbon at Fenway Park on July 21st! Could be a fun night out!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Tickets go on sale June 22nd!

    http://www.tickets.com/footballatfenway/

    ReplyDelete
  54. Check out the league standings page for some good reading!!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Tom.... Fribeka mentioned a team called Orange that we are meant to be playing in a couple of weeks.... looks like they dont exist!!.... they are not in the league tables and there are no scores against their name.... we should use that week to get a make up game if possibe?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Glasgow Celtic vs Sporting Lisbon?

How will we be able to tell the difference?

As I recall, they wear the same green hoops...

    ReplyDelete
  57. BOR... You are right! But i bet Celtic get to play in the hoops!

    ReplyDelete
  58. You are right Johnaldo. We do not have a game scheduled for 6/20. Our game against Orange is canceled according to the CARSL schedule. However, Bridgeport has a game for that Sunday. It would be tough for a make-up since that is the only game we missed so far.

    ReplyDelete
  59. el gato... you're right...... Bridgeport are playing that weekend......just a shame to miss a game weekend

    ReplyDelete
  60. Great job with the win! Sorry I missed it. Unfortunately, things are crazy for me right now with my mom still in ICU in upstate NY, so hard to commit definitively to anything... Orange does not exist--that was yet another branch of the old Woodbridge team which ended up merging with the team we beat week before last. Hoping to see you all Sunday; will know more later in the week.

    ReplyDelete
  61. BOR, great idea about selling dogs!

TomA will try to arrange a friendly for the week of the Orange match!

Who all is going to Mooring on Sat?

    ReplyDelete
  62. Since the Moorings has only one screen, we should call and confrim the game will be shown. Maybe if we ALL call and inquire, then they will get the idea that they'd better have it on...

I vote for keeping the cookout simple this time around.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I will call later today

    ReplyDelete
  64. looking forward to practice on Wednesday night too! anyone else going?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Guilford Mooring has only one big screen TV but Elli's in Branford has 6 big screen TVs surrounding the bar that you can watch the game from any angle assuming if they show the game on all 6. I have been there once and has a nice bar with good selections of beer.

on 6/20 we have a Bye week and there is no team Orange. Team Orange pulled out the league at the beginning as Arnie explained. I will try to arrange a game with another team for that Sunday.

Regarding the Menu, I actually tried to keep it to burgers and dogs and just added couple of extra items in case someone likes to bring it and not a necessity. Sounds like everyone is bringing burgers and dogs then.

Arnie, sorry to hear about your mom and hope she gets better soon

I will try to come to practice and not sure on Wed. or Thurs. at this point

    ReplyDelete
  66. As long as one of these bars is actually showing the game! This is the USA.... there is probably some college baseball game or high school volley ball game that will be on TV before this one!!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Arniesto.... hope things improve for your mom and you are able to join us again soon

    ReplyDelete
  68. Fribeka.... did you solve the umbrella mystery?

    ReplyDelete
  69. so, is the weekend hot dog and burger fest for team plus family/partners etc? Trying to work out how much beer i should plan for?

    ReplyDelete
  70. Check this out! Amazing World Cup schedule graphic.

Thanks all for the kind words.

  71. Jack. I'll bring back your umbrella on sunday. I was dancing a little bit by the wind, but no like CT said. Any way was funny.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Arniesto,
I have that schedule on my computer and its the best one I found around. There is a lot of information on it and it would update as the games go on. Glad you mentioned it for the rest of the gang. Johnaldo maybe you could put it on the page for anyone who does not have it.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Arniesto:
Nice graphic schedule, I love it.
I wish you best solutions for all the healt problems with Mom.

About the game next Weekend can we have to start the list?

  75. Jorge, I don't know if i really want my umbrella back after being violated in your French cancan dance :o) Anyway, I'm out all next weekend, so keep it for a while!

Of course I won't be joining you guys at the bar Saturday. I'll be watching the games with my dad and brother in Montreal (without the wife and kid, the only way I can watch all the games on Saturday).

So, have fun Saturday and Sunday! England 2 USA 0

    ReplyDelete
  76. Yes, let's open the picnic up to our fans (do we have any?) On that note, I may invite a Colombian friend (amiga) along...who probably could give us a lesson or two on the field...a futbol lesson, La Boca!

    ReplyDelete
  77. Mr. Roniildo, I do hope to join you to watch the match Saturday, however, I have lost track of which establishment? I will land in the US tomorrow and will be well-rested for Saturday.

Mr. Jodingo, I look forward to seeing you too.... if you can behave yourself!

    ReplyDelete
  78. Jodingo,

looking forward meeting your colombian (amiga) friend.

  79. What a game played by the boys....what a pleasure to watch in a very quite 40 minutes in goal in 1st half. Very dissapointed didnt get breakaway goal stopped in first half but maybe not a bad thing as it had me very ready for 2nd half where 2 possible backaways were canceled with some good early reaction. After some early rust has been shacken off in my first 4 games the 2nd have of sunday i believe was my coming out party. Your last line of defense is really starting to feel part of what is a great team and will continue to make you proud. I thank you all for the apportunity and look forward to giving you many more victories

  80. Great game by you too Bruce! We have the best D in the league!
