Celtic Fiesta Time!

Thought I would remind us all of what a nice weekend we just had!

USA 1 England 1
Madison 3 New Fairfield 0

And a fantastic party!!

Thanks to everyone for all their help setting up the after match fun..... we will have to do it again! And let's plan for another World Cup game in the bar.

Remember there is no league game this weekend! Waiting to hear from Tom about a friendly game on Sunday morning, although it doesn't look likely. Will track that outcome in the comments section below. Have a great Fathers Day at the weekend!

  5. With Johnaldo(photographer) as a friend who needs enemies.
What a pic of my friend Ronildo, you can move to San Francisco now Ronie lol.

Very good time that I have for now, watching the World Cup, but I'm realistic the we didn't have good defense and we didn't play with strong Team yet.
Let see how far we can go maybe 2 more games? who nows after Switzerland beat Spain.
Discretion for Argentina and step by step now.

  6. Roniildo.... i think it's a very nice photo

  7. Tano.... Argentina are starting to look good !

    ReplyDelete
  8. Spoken like a Scotsman....

  9. Argentina has been the most impressive so far. Mexico was also very good yesterday. And of course Germany, but they have yet to see a good team.

My Oranje' were NOT impressive in a good sense.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Re. Germany.....like I said. And I think Podolski will be shipped back to Poland now...

  11. Go Orange GO Orange
I will buy the that shirt

  12. good beating today for US, and messi was brilliant yesterday, creating all 4 goals!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Just saw the US pulled a 2-2 tie out of the hat

    ReplyDelete
  14. Should've been 3-2 U.S.!! A lucky draw though. Can Algeria beat England??

    ReplyDelete
  15. time to leave to watch England match

I think TomA must have gone to SA, but can safely assume no game this weekend

    Have a great weekend !

  16. Very good practice yesterday Halil. I still have a big swelling on my shin from the Brazil shirt guy, ouch.
We practice on Tuesday (Carlos Group) start 6:30pm at Cox school next week see you guys there. (keep loosing weight):o)

  17. England are so bad....! and what a great comeback by the US.....totally deserved to get that last goal, the ref was awful.

Tough game for Oranje..... still waiting for them to start playing that expansive attacking football you would expect to see from them..... Brazil Ivory Coast tomorrow should be a good one!

Sorry i missed the practice Tano... down in NJ a lot right now

    ReplyDelete
  18. Argentina still look the best so far.... hope you are getting ready for that naked run Tano!

    ReplyDelete
  19. hahaha Johnaldo will see will see
When I said, go Orange! is for the Ivory Cost
    Nice shirt they have.
Tomorrow get ready for another surprise.
    Go Orange go Orange.

    ReplyDelete
  20. ah! that Oranje! I agree, i think they look good....Brazil cold have a fight on their hands

    ReplyDelete
  21. Cameroon is done, Argentina & Holland are into the next round already. Anelka is already home...like that was a surprise lol

The English invented football/soccer yet feel the need to hire a Swede and then an Italian......too funny.

Hesky started again along with Carragher & Lennon.....also funny. Rooney "played" another 90 minutes and yet Joe Cole is sitting the bench :)

Aren't there any creative playmakers in England? Instead of hiring forgein coaches the FA may want to consider giving instant citizenship/elgibility to someone like Artetta, Fabergas etc

I'd love to see a few angles prior to the US free kick to see if there was a foul by the US. From what I saw it should have been the 3rd goal for the US. By the way the Slovenian keeper was a wuss on both US goals as in ducking on Donovan's shot. Nice goals in any event :)

  22. Dejan.... great analysis. England always manage to grab mediocrity from huge potential. It is puzzling but for a Scot mostly pleasing..... The English FA really feel they can buy success and the players have bought the hype...

I still like the look of Argentina...but its early days !

    ReplyDelete
  23. John,
The winners have been lucky like Argentina with Heinze's head ball into the upper 90 and Iguahim (?) will never score three easier goals in his life :)

The Dutch goals were not exactly "planned" as in "own goal".

Ghana only scored on "hand ball" penalty kicks goals. Serbia's "hand ball" did not influence the game and they did it twice in two games.
The Australian's were in my opinion unduly punished as the ball played Kewell on the line as it him on the chest then slid onto his arm. He did not attempt to "hand ball" it yet he got a red card......and the Aussies still had chances to win the game.

If Serbia gets a win vs Australia then Germany must win vs Ghana to go on. Going to be interesting :)

Regarding the FA.....they do have most of the best players in the world playing in England but most of them are forgeiners......rofl

Worst game ever 1990 World Cup England - Ireland.
Total "kick & run" football....no skilled players allowed :(

    ReplyDelete
  24. my best memory in the World cup was Archie Gemmell's goal for Scotland against Holland in 1978....we went up 3-1 and only needed aother goal to get through to the next round.... they scored to make it 3-2 and we were out and back home.... they went on to the final against Argentina... i hope a few of these teams really break out and start playing some really good stuff, especially Holland.... maybe get another final against Argentina?

    ReplyDelete
  25. My analysis will not be nearly as critical or well thought out as Dejan's.....want France to lose every time...That's it! Mexico did their part to help that along! That's all I got!

Oh and Roniildo, so sorry, but that photo of you is not very flattering! I know, I'm late on that, but had to said.....I did get a good laugh out of it though!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Annie....to be shure....... no one in Ireland wants France to do well after the Henry hand ball elimination! Looks like they are heading home........

    ReplyDelete
  27. .....and what's wrong with Roniildo's photo?
... He could be the lead dancer at the next Rio Carnival...

    ReplyDelete
  28. Actually the Danes had some really good sequences vs Cameroon today. It was an exciting game due to the some erratic defense.

Algeria played attractive soccer vs England...lots of composure.

Chile and Germany had really great 1st games....wonder if Chile can do it again. Germany did not as they ran into the Serbs. Don't think Ghana will be able to stand up to the Germans :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Dejan... I agree the defences in the Denmark Cameroon game were awful today....made for an exciting game though....

another little exercise I've been doing during the game is counting the number of teams that have a current or ex Celtic or Rangers player.....

    ReplyDelete
  30. It would have been wiser to leave "hand ball" Henry home as he is a malcontent and not being played anyway. So what is the sense of wasting a roster spot unless the coach wants to humilite him?

I want to see attractive soccer not kick & run and thugs running around on the pitch.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Ha ha! Yes he could! (sorry again roniildo!)

OK, in everything you and Dejan have been writing, my take-away is France going home! First, yeah, and second I'm subbing out for someone who knows more soccer than me! Will let you and Dejan continue....maybe I'll learn something!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Dejan.... Anelka is more of a malcontent that Henry....the issue is Domenech

    ReplyDelete
  33. The issue is that players have to buy into the coach and his strategies......if not they have to be invited to leave. No time to butt heads during games and other team functions.

Bora dismissed six of the best players off the Costa Rican team when he was hired to take them to the world cup in '90. They actually played better without the malcontents and beat Scotland to advance into the 2nd round.

Sitting among the Scottish contingent in the stadium I learned the word/term "Wanker" as the Scottish fans were referring to their team. lol

    ReplyDelete
  34. that Costa Rica result was one of the worst in Scotland's history! Thanks for the reminder! Keane got sent home from the World cup by the Ireland coach Mick McCarthy..... thats didn't work out... would have been better if McCarthy had been sent home....

    ReplyDelete
  35. " What a bunch of wankers" ah yes.... a great supporters chant LOL

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hahaha Johnaldo
You have a Suite Room on hell at ready.
Hey Annie welcome back. No much funny comments lately, but who need one after Johnaldo pic post.
    Back to WC comments...
Denmark vs Cameroon the best entertained game for now.
Like I predicted WC will be bored games compare to champions league.
    Dejan You write this:
"The winners have been lucky like Argentina with Heinze's head ball into the upper 90 and Iguahim (?) will never score three easier goals in his life :)"
    I agree with you 99%
We still play against Who Nigeria and S.Korea?
But in the other hand we have England 0-0 vs Algeria? or Brazil a closing victory 2-1 vs who north Korea? and Spain 0-1 vs Red Cross?
At this point I more agree with John.
Put like that to no misunderstanding Argentina and Holland are the less worse Team on WC and I bet you you know more of coaching than my flaky friend Diego M.
So like Maradona may said many times.
"beam me up Scottie" if you know what that means.

    Go Ivory go. :o)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Discipline & team unity usually beats unharnessed individaul talent as seen in this world cup.
Work ethic, smarts & luck helps as well :)

    Who hired McCarthy anyway?
Some coaches do really well in interviews & have political connections to get the job :) But really are not "flexible" enough to make adjustments as needed during a game or even prepping for the next opponent.

    ReplyDelete
  38. How is Smurf doing? Is the blue spot growing or getting smaller? lol

Maradonna is probably still suffering from his over-the-counter medication cocktails :) Scottie would (Jim) beam him up if Diego had a bottle with him :)

Brazil was not very impressive as Kaka could not get going plus Alves was on the bench for most of the game. North Korea did play well and cold have had some more goals if luck would have been on their side as well :)

Spain could not finish as in no luck as the Swiss Cheese defense did not have the large holes it usually had and a huge case of good luck. lol

    ReplyDelete
  39. evening Tano! I think Dejan is a big supporter of coaches! I wonder why.... Dejan who do you think the final 4 will be?
I think the European teams will be the main challengers.... along with Argentina..... have not seen enough of Brazil to work out if they are up for the competition or not. The game against Ivory Coast will be a goood test

    ReplyDelete
  40. i think Annie gave up on us beacuse we were not talking about fast balls and switch ups and weird baseball stuff like that

    ReplyDelete
  41. Ha ha Johnaldo-I was just busy working!!! But I do check in to see what's going on-always entertaining!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Not a supporter of most coaches. There aren't many good ones around. Like Gus, Mourinho, Wenger for the most part.

Anyway the point is that one guy has to be in charge....can't have the inmates running the assylum. lol

Hard to predict the final four since there are so many variables such as luck, match-up, referees and the idiotic yellow card system.
Ask me after the first round when I have seen everyone play :)
Spain vs Chile will be interesting to me!

    ReplyDelete
  43. i agree Dejan.... i think if Mourinho was a national coach he would win a World Cup

    ReplyDelete
  44. Ah,,,just checking Annie... Everyone else is probably out at night clubs or concerts or camping.... just us sad types on the internet late at night!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Baseball been berry berry good to me...:)

Talk about boring and statistical hype. They count how many times the pitches scratches his crotch, wipes his eyebrows etc.

Ironically Baseball fans complain there isn't enough scoring in Football/Soccer yet the holy grail in Baseball is a "no-hitter".

    ReplyDelete
  46. Ah Dejan....I hate to admit it, but you are right! Most true baseball fans will say they prefer a pitcher's duel where the final score ends up being 1-0 vs. a homerun derby kind of game! Go figure....

Johnaldo, I was going to try and pretend I WAS out, but being out and on the blog is even sadder....LOL!

Happy Father's Day to all the dads!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Discipline, team unity, sound team tactics and good luck like we were discussing before. Soft pk and despite that the Kiwis could have won it if they would have put a couple chances away. The Italians looked very pedestrian!

On the other hand we have the French and the English. The French have turned into soccer elitist as well where they think they "deserve" success. The players refused to train and couple of the staff quit due to the players action.
"All you need is love" lol

    ReplyDelete
  48. John, Ivory Coast seems to be hoping for the Luck of the Irish they are donning Celtic like jerseys :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Dejan... the shirts did not help!

A lot of faking going on in that game but Brazil won it easily. Looks like the Americas are going to dominate this tournament!
