European Teams in Trouble at the World Cup !

So after the first week or so of games it's safe to say that the African teams suck and pretty close to them are the Europeans! Spain, Portugal, Italy, England and France are trying their best to be sent home early and only the Dutch and maybe the Germans , if they can win another game, are holding on to European dignity. The African teams have been a huge disappointment but the South American and Central American teams have been great......and of course, let's not forget the USA battlers! Not too many really exciting games so far...although when the defences are bad it does lend itself to more attacking games. I hope you are gathering useful hints for our Madison games, like falling down as though you have been shot in the face after being nudged on the elbow!

And maybe our refs are not too bad after all?

So what do you think will happen in the second week? Vote for the team that you think will top the USA group after Wednesday's games..... it's difficult to predict!

  1. I thought Ivory Coast would be better than they were.... no real savvy in attack and Brazil controlled the game easily. All the fake falling around at the end of the game was awful and looked pathetic. This week will be make or break for a few really big teams!

  2. Like I mentioned in the other post....the ref let the second goal stand after the scorer committed two hand ball infractions in a row. Worst thing was that the ref motioned to the scorer that it was a hand ball!!!

The faking is awful but it worked for Italy & Ivory Coast. So much for FIFA fair play.

  3. Portugal ....7 goals!! Gonna be a great game when they play Brasil...

  4. The Korean Team is more worry to find a fake passport than the WC. lol.

  5. Portugal just need a draw now against Brazil?

  6. I was looking at the World Cup games planned for this coming Sunday when we are scheduled to play Southington. The 10 am WC game will be the winners of Group D vs Runners up of C....
D is the Germany/Ghana section..... and of course C is USA/England section! The 2.30pm game will likely be Argentina vs Uraguay or Mexico! Some potential conflicts of interest for 10 am!

  7. Been keeping up with all the world cup games. European teams played terrible except for Dutch, and Germans if they can win one more game. Portugal scored 7 goals today (haven't seen the game yet) after a non-scoring first game against Ivory Coast. So far, Argentina, Brasil have been great. Brasil's second goal yesterday and the USA's 3rd goal which wasn't accepted are result of some bad referring even in the World Cup Games. Uruguay, Mexico and Paraguay are doing fine too. Let's hope USA can beat Algeria.

This Sunday our game is against Southington FC at Town Campus Field. Who's in charge of beer this week?

    In for Sunday:

    Tom A

  9. John, can you change the game time to noon or 5:00pm so the Celtics can watch the WC games?

Uruguay & Mexico can dink the ball around for 90 minutes and they will qualify. France (if they actually show up) and South Africa will have to score 2 & 3 goals respectively just to have a mathematical chance to go on to the next round :)

  14. I don't really want to change our game time. It really complicates things further to get the field at a different time and will create problems for the Sounthington team too.

Enjoyed seeing Francis go down...I bet there were celebrations across Ireland....That's what you get for being cheaters and cry-babies!

Would love to sneak out for the US game today, but I think folks would realize I was missing at work! And is 9:30 too early to have a beer on a Wednesday? ;o)

  21. Annie, I have never seen the movie "Francis go Down" but it sounds a bit like "Debbie does Dallas" but with an Irish flavor.
Oh, and should I infer, beer before 9.30am "on a Wednesday" is bad but on any other day is ok?

  23. I could have had Johnaldo save me by editting my typos, but I decided that the blog has been BORING the last few days so maybe this will get something going!

Movie Critic....beers on a saturday at a sporting event, or beers any day of the week during vacation at 9:30am is totally legit in my book....on a wednesday during work...maybe not, but I'm still thinking about it! (I am still laughing at your comment!)

And I have already re-written this comment 3 times, cause I know how some of you think now....Jodingo!!...(ha ha!!)

I will now promise to use the preview pane!

  25. Roniildo-I totally agree!! Johnaldo, what can you do about that, second half maybe?

Checking the play-by-play matchcast is just not the same.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Roniildo's pic....Francis go down.... Debbie does Dallas...Look like a porn website now!!

Should we put a notice on the blog!! "Parental guidance"

As for France! Coach Domenech should take over the North Korean team (who lsot 7-0 against Portugal)and first practice will be in front of President Kim Jong II and a firing squad!!

Sad for the African countries who will not be represented in the knock out rounds!

Go Oranje... and if history repeats... Go Brazil... and If, Go Spain....

    El Gato
    Roniildo
    Jodingo!!
    Johnaldo
    Bruce/Tom
    Ilhon
    Tano
    Bambi

We need some others to step up...

Do I see a hand raised in the back of the room? Yes, sir, please come forward and reveal your identity...

  41. I have re-aggravated my Achilles strain, but I think I'm going to give it a go this weekend anyway.

By all means we should meet to watch the game on Saturday, but let's find somewhere other than Eli's. Too much broken glass in the beer.

Anna Liffey's has great atmosphere, but it is CROWDED. Barely room to shove thru to the bar during a match. Its nice to have that option to walk to from work, I must say ;-)

  42. Johnaldo...you are never gonna let me live that down are you? I can't complain though......I deserve it! ;o)
