MATCH REPORT; Madison 4 Eagles 4

It was deja vu all over again as the Mad Celts threw away a 4-2 lead with ten minutes left on the clock to contrive a draw! The game started with the usual confusion about who was actually going to turn up for the game. Even though the Celts have a big squad its remarkable how many times we have to guess the defensive line up ten minutes before the start of a match. In such circumstances it is maybe no surprise that the first goal would come from a defensive error. A simple ball over a static back four allowed the Eagles speedy number 16 to outstrip El Gato to confront the isolated Hulk and score a go ahead goal. After that early debacle Jodingo!! slipped into the sweeper role and had an outstanding game. However, the damage had been done and now the Celts had to chase the game. Some petty tackles by the Eagles were missed by the ref allowing the steam to rise on both sides. Luckily some of that hot air was dissipated when a simple ball into the box by Carlos saw several failed attempts at taking a clean shot on goal before Halil finished the confusion by blasting the ball into the net. Unfortunately Madison were still allowing the Eagles to play their type of disruptive game and when not fouling they were falling over in the box. It was on one such occasion that the Eagles won a penalty as BOR was adjudged to have pushed down an Eagles player. Harsh to say the least, but we have been giving away a lot of penalties recently! A second goal was swooshed past the Hulk allowing the Eagles to go in at half time 2-1 up. After a rather unusual and unorthodox speech by the referee at half time the game got underway again. Madison then really took the game by the scruff of the neck with some great possession and great passing. Finally the game was going to plan and a great move allowed the equalizing goal for the Celts. The ball was moved down the Madison right side and into the box where a great ball over to Ruggero allowed him to slot the ball past the goalkeeper. His first goal for the Celts and the start of a period of total domination by the home team. Lots of shots and chances came for the Celts over the next fifteen minutes as first Tano and then Jorge all came close. The break through came for the Celts when Tano passed a great ball over to Talat who scored from one yard out allowing the Celts to take the lead. The icing was apparently put on the cake when a Carlos special was delivered from a free kick a good 30 yards out. The soccer magician floated in an unstoppable shot, over the head of the opposition goalie for an unassailable 4-2 lead. Did I just say unassailable? Unfortunately for the Celts, with only ten minutes left on the clock, the unassailable position turned into the unbelievable position as they dropped two stupid goals and two very important points. It has to be said, it will not be remembered as the Hulks best ten minutes in a Celtic shirt, although there was plenty of blame to go around. The first sign that the wheels were about to come off the Madison bus, for the second game in a row, was a terrible defensive scramble in the Madison box. One attempt after an other failed to clear the ball and just as it seemed the ball was going out the Hulk pulled down an opposition player in the box. Pulled down is maybe too fine a description ....from the sidelines it looked like a a full blooded rugby tackle! Another penalty, another goal and another path set for a soccer meltdown. Unbelievably, even with only a few minutes left on the clock, Madison pushed players forward to try and score another goal. Unbelievably, even though possession of the ball is probably the most effective way of stopping the opposition from hurting you Madison kept wastefully thumping the ball up the park. And then, all too believably, we let them score in the last minute..... another scramble in the box , a ball fumbled, and into the net it went. Unbelievable, but true....4-2 up with ten minutes left and yet another draw. This was more painful than the 6-2 loss to Orange!

The mercurial ref then rounded off a bad day at the office by giving us all an end of game speech about the three P's of soccer.... possession, position and passing! Just what we needed to hear!

The great thing about our team is that win, lose or draw we know how to have a good picnic! Some fantastic food was supplied after the game and even better company.

The next game will take care of itself, but both Orange and Guilford will be 8 points ahead of Madison if they win their games in hand. Still 12 games left in the season but we are making it a tough road to travel.

MAN OF THE MATCH; Seems odd to say, that in a 4 4 game where the team has let the points go so late in the game that two of the best players were defenders. Both Tom A ( in his return) and Jodingo!! had outstanding games with Jodingo!! earning the spotted dick award for his tenacity and consistency during the game

  2. Some stats;

We have given away 4 penalties in the last 3 games! 5 over the last 5 games

In four of our last 5 games the opposition has scored the first goal

  3. Hey Johnaldo- sounded like it wasn't the Mad Celts best performance. Well written match report though-enjoyable to read even with the outcome. On a lighter note, loving the photostream and especially the watermelon photo. That joke never gets old.....

  5. .......johnaldo, they do seem a little off. perhaps a generous helping of abilify might help? Great report Johnaldo (but thst's redundant). Just sounds like last 10 min meltdown boys. just need to stay in it, and the more we play in the pressure situations the better the outcome will be...no?

Bummer that DS and DX just no shows without a tweet, text email or wthfete these days...don't get you boys? Johnaldo, myself and the other admin guys for the team put a lot into this stuff, even if you don't see it, and just show up to play.

So, shake it off and get your wood up for next week. I'm not missing promotion this year without a huge fight, so if you're with me, let go at it on Sunday. Last week est histoire!!!

  7. Roniildo...we have shown in the past that we are unable to hold a lead and close out a game... very noticeable against the Albanian Eagles but also with Morelia and in the past Southbury..... certainly in this league we have thrown away at least 8 points by losing last minute goals..... no surprise we could be 8 points behind the top two fairly soon. Ironically, our games against them have actually been even. One point a piece against Guilford and 4 points a piece against Orange....it's all these stupid drawn games that are killing us!

  8. .......Johnaldo, your right on the money! We need to close out the lower teams, and bring it big time v the orange and bell curve..it's that simple, bit easier said than done! You need to believe you are a winner ahead of it actually happening. We need to focus on 3 points on Subday, and simply prepare for the big games. We all saw the result of prep v Orange. They were really pumped to beat us, and their full squad showed for the match. Can't freakin believe we get no input from DX and DS either way...I"m get close to the end of that rope. If you can't find 1 min in the week to call Johnaldo or me about playing availability, it aint good enough for me boys. I'm sure you super stars can get a game any week, anywhere, anytime....so go at it!

  9. with all previously said maybe with 2 goal leads late we need to become more defensive and lay back a couple half backs to ensure the win rather than padding the offensive stats......last game i take full responsibilty for but extra help may have prevented it.....just may opionion....I may have not been at my best but I have not had much help either

  10. Hulk i totally agree. At 4-2 we were chasing for a fifth goal and leaving gaps in the middle. We should have closed down the game by swamping midfield ....no need for anyone up front... A lesson learned....again!

  11. You are right Hulk,
At the last 10 minutes we had 4 forward trying to score more goals and that should not be the case when we are 4-2 ahead.

  22. When I was young I used to fist fight a lot, and with the age I learned that no matter how hard you beat them he will not change to be nice, instead he will do for worse, but meantime you gain more and more enemies.
The same thing happen when you say something to an old guy that didn't ask you what is wrong with me? they don't change and they getting worse, so if I give him my opinion, in the game they don't pass me the ball or he make comments from behind.
That's why I don't make no more comments in the blog or in the game, only some jokes about my friends.
I started to practice something by my self and it works but is hard because my old habits are strong, but what I do is this, I forget about scoring or win, I just play the ball to pass share the ball and have fun, (that is just a comment about what I do and I don't expect nothing to nobody).

Very good picnic and weather,(too bad the I can't enjoyed because my pains stomach and right hand) next time.

Johnaldo... I always appreciate your effort that you do for us (blogs report, etc, etc). I will make you happy soon .
Thanks good we don't play for a wile in that paddock.

Ronnildo.., not all people take that serious like us be in this team. unfortunately,we have to deal with those.I have in mind two exelent player they are like us very comunicative and they love BBQ and fun.

  23. Johnaldo... sorry I forgot completely about the money I will give you Thursday or Sunday.

  24. Tano you are in a philosphical mood tonight! Yes we are a bit of an intersting group... playing to have fun and to to have the aim of making a completed pass to one of your team mates is a great goal. If more of the team had done that on Sunday we would have won easily. It's amazing how many players charge up the field with the ball and never look up. They don't see the team mate making the run into space. They dont see the five defenders they are just about to run into like a brick wall! Headless chcikens is a good way off describing the last ten minutes of our game on Sunday. All we need is to get the ball, look up, pass to your nearest team mate and have fun! If everyone did that on the team we would always win!

    ReplyDelete
  25. ......a bunch of headless chickens....LOL....that's perfect !

TANO, I thrive on the passion u bring to our team. I am serious about it, which is the reason I take the time out to be involved. I love playing, always have, and not many things top it for me. We still have issues with playing time for some players, so we all need to dig in and decide if we want to play to compete and win, or just play for fun forever in div 3? You all know how serious Orange and Guilford take this stuff, and so, we need clarity on the issue of playing time.......? 2c

  28. Just curious........I sent all 22 of us an email last week asking for $40 dollars to cover our SASL COMMITMENT, due June 15th. If u don't pay up, we are out of this league, and it is over, so email me tomorrow if you no longer want to play, cause I ain't fronting the cash. So tick tock.............

    ReplyDelete
  29. .......the check has to be received by SASL 7 days from today. Even if i express mail it, that leaves 4 business days to go. Did anyone send me a check to my home, as I requested in the global email to all?

    ReplyDelete
  30. .......funny how nobody seems to be reading the blog, since I repeated my rerquest for fees at 11:30PM last night..LOL. It is $40 guys, not $4K. If you don't want to pay and play, that's fine too, but please let us know, so i can adjust accordingly for those of us that will continue to play. Thanks for your help.....

  31. Roniildo i will bring in the cash tomorrow...usually people are slow to cough up... you have to sell shares, access your savings account, sell some property etc to actually get the $40....

  45. Johnaldo, I disagree that this tie game against Albanian was more painful than the 6-2 loss to Orange. I think as a team we played and performed much better than the previous game against orange. I watched the entire second half of the orange game from the sideline and there is really no comparison between the two....without getting into a lot of details, we were winning this game 4-2 until the last 5 or 10 minutes due to couple of silly mistakes inside the 18 yard area. These silly mistakes are killing our standing in the division and doesn't really reflect the whole story.

I also do agree, instead of trying to score the 5th goal, we should have doubled up defensively and just playing defense for the last 10 minutes. Oh well....another lesson for next time I hope to remember as a team.

I will probably play on Sunday if my anckle allows me and will bring cash as well for the dues.

By the way, I didn't take the watermelon when I left the picnic
