NEXT GAME; Sunday July 11th, Bridgeport!

It's the big one this weekend! No, not the World Cup Final.......It's the top of the league clash against Bridgeport! They, like us, have been going strong and are 1 point ahead of us having played the same number of games. We have had some tough clashes with both Bridgeport A and B teams over the years and this game will be no different. Looks like our challengers have scored a lot of goals so far this season (31) but they sure have lost a lot (17 ). Looks like their strike force will be a real test for the impressively stingy Madison defence ( 4 ) and maybe a huge opportunity for our forwards to bang in a lot more goals to add to their season tally (17 ). Their average score over the season so far is to win 4-2 and ours is to win 2-0 so it should be a very interesting game. Let's hope we have our full squad available for the game......there will be plenty of time to play the game, have a beer and get home for the World Cup final!

I think the steamy heat wave should be a bit milder by Sunday but don't forget to bring lots of water!

Go Madison! Go Oranje!!........

  1. Hello All,

I updated the SASL Website (http://saslsoccer.com) on Tuesday, July 6th:

    1. Updated Team Pictures Gallery -- added Rowayton FC (Masters League) [many thanks to Luis Claudio Martinez].

The 2009-2010 season is now officially over and the results and standings are now considered final.

The SASL Executive Board has been hard at work for several weeks on the next season, 2010-2011, expected to kick off on August 15th. We're hoping to organise a League meeting before then, so stay tuned. SASL President Ken Brown will announce the date to all the managers. The Exec. Board have many details to iron out between now and August 15th -- which is only 6 weeks away!

  2. Roll call for Sunday?

I'm out and so is Bambi...

    Who is in?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Bridgeport have two very strong players--we'll have to mark them well, extremely fast/fit, and they can score from distance. Their defense is suspect. I'm planning on being there.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Arniesto....yes they score for fun but seem to let goals in for fun too!

  5. ROLL CALL;

    La Boca Jorge
    _______________________________________________
Subbing list: (start at 15 min and every 10min)
    Carlos for any Stopper
    Jogelito for any Stopper
    Judge for Fribeka or Jodingo
El Gato for Jodingo or Fribeka
    Arniesto for Halil or Tano
    Hilan for Tano or Halil
Bambi for La Boca or Jorge
Safet for Jorge or la Boca
Bruce (the last best player) play the whole game.
    -------
We can make a rule like the best player of the last game have the right to play or stay all the time he wants.
Can be an incentive to show all what we got.
    -------

The above lay out of players is only an example.
So at Sundays, we know who start, and who you have to sub..
This can resolve the subbing issue.

    Very Important:
This post is with the only purpose to collaborate with some ideas to my Team.
And is not to intend to offense any one who is in charge.
Work together make the Team better.
All my sincerely purpose is keep our team win the game so we have more fun and beer taste better (like champagne at the podium).

  9. Jodingo!! I think it's Ilhan... that's why i picked that photo but we need someone to confirm!!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Tano...

i agree when we have over 13 players turn up we need a sub system..... sub pairing can work... especialy for midfield and the attack...you just need to have 3 or 4 players agreeing to the subbing schedule to be in agreement about their process. The Defence usually only has one or 2 guys available for subbing at any time

    ReplyDelete
  11. Roll call;

    Tano
    Jodingo!!
    Arniesto

    ReplyDelete
  12. We might not need a subbing schedule....after the last game, several players quit and several are not coming due to other plans and travel elsewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Jodingo!!!!!!
    Are You wake?
I imagined you at this time, in an hotel room with three Uruguayans girls naked and a lot of empty wine bottles.

  14. Tano,

Almost correct...they were Colombian ladies from Cali...

I saw this picture of your hero yesterday...

  15. I got myself injured a little bit last week during practice at guilford. Nursing a groin injury and not sure how much I can play at this point. So 50/50 for this sunday

    Tom (50/50)
    Tano
    Jodingo!!
    Arniesto
    Bruce

    ReplyDelete
  16. that's Ilhan....confirmed...I think people have forgotten that Ilhan used to play for Bridgeport B before. We played against Bridgeport before with Ilhan playing against us

    ReplyDelete
  17. Jodingo!!

Naked women, bottles of good wine, the best hotel rooms that money can buy...... where did it all go wrong?

    ReplyDelete
  18. If this is wrong, I don't wanna be right!

    (Just don't tell Susan....)

    ReplyDelete
  19. What's on Ronhildo's mind on that pic???

    1- Where are my teammates?
2- Should I ask Ilhan to join us (he's already pulling away from his teammates and leaning toward me)
    3- Where am I?
    4- I'm thirsty - bbbbeeeerrrrrr!?!?
5- I'm so photogenic, they can't do worse than this pic/pose!?!??

As for Sunday, I have back to back playoff games Friday and Saturday! I should be there but I don't know in what kind of shape my legs will be! Hopefully the fact that Holland will play on Sunday should give me a bit of motivation regardless of the pain!

So Tano, you might have to rethink your subbing scenario - I will be a sub for every player for 5 min. which should results in me playing for 5 min. :o)

    HaHa what a ugly pic.
And he is not my Hero,he look like Saddam Hussein in Guantanamo.

  28. Johnaldo:
Did you remember who was the mascot of WC Spain in 1982?
    Naranjito means little orange.
(You can remember that WC for the 5X2 vs New Zealand)
Also Johan Cruyff was the pioneer of this style of play in Spain.
    what a two paradox.
Holand are the eternal 2nd places? 1974-1978 in that time was vs the local team
Spain have just one time the chance to play the semifinal in 1950 and Sweden bit them 3X1 so the get the 4th place. They calling la Furia
I like Robben but nothing compare with the association of Xavi Hernandez and Iniesta.
    Very attractive Final.
First time in Africa first time in final for Spain
and could be first time Holland win the WC finally.

Good luck Orange (Jodi & Jack) You will win
    I know that at ready.

  29. TANO...yes those were the days that Scotland used to qualify for big tournaments!

Spain passed Germany off the field last night....the ball possesion Spain had was huge but they do seem to have problems getting the ball in the net. Will be a very interesting final!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I reset the Poll for who will win the World Cup as a lot of people picked Germany!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Only 7 names so far for Sunday! Top of the league clash.... biggest game of the season!! Your chance to be a star!! Fribeka may even get more tan 5 minutes!!!
I think La Boca should be back from Georgia...what about everyone else?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yes La Boca Play this Game according a conversation of I have last week.
    What about Carlos, Jorge?
    and the Turkish legion?

    ReplyDelete
  33. El gato? Safet? Gogglito? The judge?

    .... we demand answers!

    ReplyDelete
  34. No secret why Spain is doing so well:

    Iker Casillas, RMA
    Sergio Ramos, RMA
    Carles Puyol, FCB
    Gerard Pique, FCB
    Joan Capdevila, Villareal
    Sergio Busquets, FCB
Xabi Alonso (Carlos Marchena 90), RMA
    Xavi Hernandez, FCB
    Andres Iniesta, FCB
Pedro Rodriguez (David Silva, 85(Valencia)), FCB
David Villa (Fernando Torres, 81(Liverpool)). FCB/Valencia (Moved in May)

So, 7 outfield players started the game all from Barcelona, 3 from Real Madrid. they pass like they know where their teammates will be because they actually do know where their teammates will be!

Score in Germany game: Xavi to Puyol, they've probably done that corner kick 10,000 times in practice

Xavi most underrated (and maybe the best) central midfielder on the planet. Xavi vs. Snjeider will be a fantastic battle.

  44. I know, Johnaldo may be the final cup or family vacation care, who knows.
Did you know if Dejan make another team?
    Just Kidding.
Arniesto post before last game that he will provide refreshment this time, because he will be absent in the last one, but I'm not sure. I don't care for beers now, this time is for mushrooms roseberry ice tee and they don't mix with alcohol.
After that my comment will be:"I love Holland Shirt is so bright and did you feel the fabrics? is so light and smooth.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Guys with La Boca out we will have a very makeshift defence for this important game. Only Telat and El Gato are available from our 'normal' defence in front of Bruce. If Tom is more than 50/50 then he could play as sweeper with Roniildo just in front. If Tom cant't play then we need someone willing to play sweeper and another left back to sub in and out with El Gato! Big test for the defence to hold on to the best defensive record in the league against the highest scorers in the league!

    ReplyDelete
  72. We have 13 players for Sunday, I think Arniesto is bringing the beer but i haven't seen that confirmed. Have fun and best of luck!

  74. Uh oh... just had a chance to check this out. Was I supposed to do beer? If so, then I forgot/missed something... Happy to do it next time, but it's now nearly midnight, and I think the best I could offer are two summer ales from the bottom of the fridge and a bottle of pretty good tequila...

    ReplyDelete
  75. Arnie:
    No beer? You kidding right?
Come one Arnie You know we are alcoholics,
And I assume that you bring beers because I take serious your post when you was sick (copy paste):

    Arniesto said...
I'm 50/50, yet again...This time it's a nasty bronchitis. Hopefully will be back on my feet by Sunday. Are the field directions posted somewhere--not the same field as last time sounds like... Also, I'm up for beer duty next time I'm a definite--hopefully game after this one...

    June 24, 2010 2:11 PM

But is okay you can fix this and pay at the pub so everybody watch teh final together.

  76. great win guys! no beer but 3 goals!!

    ReplyDelete
  77. Yup, you're right Tano, I blew it with the beer...I'll make it up with quality brews for the next game...Viva Espana! Viva Iniesta, mi tocayo! Viva Madison Celtic at the top of the table, and Viva SCP Heat and my daughter Sofia's hatrick in the final game to win the Guilford tournament....What a day!

    ReplyDelete
  78. GREAT DAY ARNIE!!!

After all that, the beer was it a little detail, to make the day 10 over 10.
But you notice the almost everybody have to leave quickly today? so no big deal My Friend,so:
    Que viva ESPAÑA! OLE.

    I have Hamstring tendon.
This injury is painful but heal more faster than muscle hamstring.
I was injured when I did the sprint/run just before the goalkeeper fault me.
I glad that with my injured leg, I made a pass to Safet to convert our second goal.
Great performance today in all position guys.
An English was lost in the Celtic land.

btw (You see John You didn't said Ruben Score some goals today and I did it) lol.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Congratulation to my spaniard teamates and spaniard blogger fans! I haven't watch the whole game as of yet, but Spain deserve to win. Apart from the ref. being poor at times, Holland should not complain! Robben should have scored on that break away, and lacked again in finishing opportunities.

As for us, on top of the world! :o) I'm still suffering after playing my 2 playoffs hockey game Friday/Saturday (we won the championship) and running after Mr. English during our game, specially that chase around the whole field for what appeared to me a 10 min. marathon or more :o) So Jorge, I don't feel bad for not connecting with you on 3-4 plays during the game (play 3 games in a row and come back to talk to me), but I promise that next game I will be on top of my passing game.

Everyone had a great game! a special cheer for Arnie: flawless game and he has my MOM vote - Tano: with one leg, a goal/an assist and constantly a pest when he had the ball - and Tom "the judge": really aggressive all game considering his bad knee, and for subbing out at the end of the game after just coming in when nobody else wanted to, even if we were ahead 2-0 with 6 min. left in the game.

Can't wait for next weekend, because I don't have hockey anymore :o)

    ReplyDelete
  80. Guys,

What a game yesterday....we played well defensively and our midfielders play pretty well as well. I thought we did a very good job of controling the game from the start with good passing and we kept it for 90 minutes consistently. Everyone played well and as a team we played smart to shut their mid-field and there were a lot of holes in their defense at times which resulted with 3 goals by Jorge (what a header..awsome), Safet and Ruben. That was Ruben not Robben....Robben had 2 good chances but blew it big time. Sorry Jodigo and Fribeka

    ReplyDelete
  81. match report coming soon! by the way who was Mr English?

    ReplyDelete
  82. Mr English was their fleet-footed star striker....very fast and strong...and Roniildo was on him like a fly on sh_t......shut him down hard, and demoralized him to the point where he stopped running!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Sounds like it was a great performance!

    ReplyDelete
  84. Yes, it was. I hardly recognized us!

    ReplyDelete
  85. The star striker was fast with great foot skills. I am still recovering after that hard tackle that earned him a yellow card. Boy we were all dying for a beer after the game yesterday...hope everyone got out of Bridgeport ok after the game with the festival and parade going on and blocked off roads

    ReplyDelete
  86. For once I will object to Jodingo observation/description. Yes! Ronildo was assigned to him, but it was a team effort (including jodingo) that got him demoralized. Halil and myself were on him in the midfield like flies over my garbage cans, then he had Tom A. (he probably has a blue ankle from Mr. english frustration), Telat, Jodingo and Ronildo to deal with when in the box. When I started chasing him on one of his possession (as mentioned before) after hearing Ronildo telling me don't quit.... All I remember after the chase is trying to pick up my legs, seeing stars and calling Tom J. for a sub.... but that recap Mr. English frustration throughout the game, and to me there was a whole team MOM if there was one to give. So Johnaldo, put that in your report, because it was a team win... for once!

    ReplyDelete
  87. Soccer have some Mandela message now.
Because Spain was great from the goalkeeper, to the low profile Coach.
And I like some recognition if you work hard, but definitely is a Team behind an individual good player.
The only thing I was upset yesterday was, when Jorge left the field, and I have to get in quickly to cover his position without warm up and in my first run I got injured and leave me without play for a 2 weeks.
I wish I had red card, because the goalkeeper have a broken nose, then I can't play for 2 week suspension, but not for a stupid injury.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Fribeka and Tano... once i get a match report i can edit.... nothing so far from appointed scribe Roniildo!

It's not as easy as it looks!!
