MATCH REPORT; Madison 4 Southington 0

When you play Summer soccer in Connecticut it can feel that you have been placed in a Swedish Sauna on full blast wearing a fur coat. Today was such a day, with the unrelenting beat of the Sun and the oppressive, saturating heat one felt completely drained of energy and that was after only five minutes of the warm up! It is a credit to both teams that they managed to put on such a good display of controlled possession and running throughout most of the game. Having said that, Southington looked to be the team that had more effectively and quickly adapted to the sweltering conditions. Madison looked sluggish, disconnected and "lacking in alacrity" over the first 30 minutes or so of the game. Nonetheless, Madison still had the best opportunities to score with chances falling to Jorge and Halil as well as Safet. For most of the first half the Madison defence was barely disturbed allowing Bruce to top up his tan while playing with a beach ball and drinking a margarita! The half was clearly a stale mate with the best moves coming from the Madison right side as Telat swept up and down the wing. At half time the talk was all about shorter passes, simple moves and taking shots on sight.

The message must have sunk in because within 5 minutes of the restart the Celts were one nil up after a great run down the Madison right by The Judge and a superb cross was met by Jorge for a simple tap in. This raised the Madison game considerably and really crushed the fight from the visitors. The second goal was delivered very quickly after the first when another great move down the right wing, this time by Roniildo, ended with a superb cross come shot that was crashed over the line by the head of Jorge for his and Madisons' second of the game. Roniildo may have felt the ball would have crept into the net without Jorge's final help but the scorers instinct made certain. By this time Madison were cruising and some very good creative passing was appearing all over the field. Halil and Ilhan were in great form with some good interchanges and Arniesto was playing a great center forward role up front. It was one of the best moves of the game that led to the third goal for Madison as a nice ball was played through the Southington defence allowing Halil to time his run to perfection beating the offside trap and coolly slotting the ball past the stranded goalkeeper. At this point in the game Madison were well worth their 3 goal lead and were pressing for more. Another great move by the Madison forwards was halted by a crude tackle on the edge of the box giving the Celts another chance to score from a set piece. Tom A stepped up and sent a beautiful shot over the wall and past the despairing dive of the goalie to send the Celts four up. Madison eased off after the goal allowing Southington back into the game and even letting some shots on goal. Bruce was alert to the danger and pulled of a great save near the end of the game to keep his clean sheet intact. Only one last cameo performance by Johnaldo was of note as he took control of the ball just inside the opposition half and went on a mazy run past 3 Southington players right into the penalty box laying off a superb pass for Jorge who only had the goalie to beat for his hat trick. Alas, it was not to be, as Jorge decided to try and dribble the ball past the goalkeeper then pass to the clearly offside Arniesto. Johnaldo denied an assist but this did not spoil a great victory for the Celts as they strengthened their position at the top of the table.

Man Of The Match Telat, for his tireless running, crunching tackles and great crosses

  1. Great and crispy Report Johnaldo.
One more time the key for win this team was circulate the ball in the midfield.
We have just one error by Tom A. at the second half, but he shut those critics mouths with a smart free kick, no hard no weak just right there, if you repeat to night the same job Tom, with your Woman, I guaranty you she will said: yeas baby right there oh yess":o).
Bruce the "Iron man" you didn't get nerves at all, actually is the opposite. the strikers of the other team looking at you like Rocky did to Hulk Hogan on Rocky III.And we can call
you that nick name (bring the blond models next time) and also thank you for the extra beers Bruce, or start call you Hulk?

  8. Good reporting Johnaldo.

Ruben, thanks for the comments my friend. I didn't really had a good second half because the heat was really getting to me and plus my left anckle was bothering me due to injury from last week's game with Bridgeport....that was the reason for that one error. Beating the goalie with the free kick was enjoyable though. The other enjoyable moment was the last crazy run by Johanaldo when he received the ball from me to take it all the way into the opposition box. Go Johnaldo

Also, my hats off to Bruce for bringing beer for the guys...Thanks Bruce

    sucking my energy level

  11. Johnaldo:
The after game drink, was like beer tasting, with the Arniesto beer collections.I was the last one to leave that place with Jorge.
We was waiting with him to lower the alcohol in our system.
I can remember how many beer did I take it because an old Irish friend told me a when I was 18:" A good drinker is one who all ways count your drinks, and if you lost the count, get lost".I'm not a good drinker, but I work in on it.
One Astoria, one Beck's, 4 exotics ones from Arniesto treasures, and one Harpon.

  12. Enjoyed the report Johnaldo, and how quickly you got it out there…

Jodingo!! Are you brushing up on your vocab in preparation for perhaps meeting Ms Susan during your upcoming Scottish tour? There will be beaucoup d’alacrity from you if Susan comes to watch the tournament…

Tano, HULK for Bruceky’s nick name is fantastic…hope you like it 

Excellent effort in the 2nd half, and it could easily have been 7 or 8 with the number of chances we created.

We need to get ready for next week, as our Midfield anchors (Halil and Jodingo!!) are on vacation (but not together).

Thanks again to Arniesto and Bruce for the beers and chips…it was a fun time.

Here(New Haven),they rebuild the Pearl Harbor Bridge. and they put a magnetic web to repel the fauna. That is why I have to go little bit north to catch some.

  48. Tano, I'm mostly familiar with the waters at the mouth of the Connecticut River and the reefs in the Sound east of there (Old Lyme, Niantic, Waterford). Better fishing there than Madison and westward. I've seen some people shorecasting off Hammonassett State Beach, but I dont' know how well they did. (I don't cast myself, I fish off boats) Don't forget to get a license ($10)...the fines are heavy.

    ReplyDelete
  49. And, yes, the stripers where I've been lately are keepers (larger than 28.5 inches. (Bambi, I said "stripers," not "strippers"...though I 've seen a few keepers in that category lately also....)

    ReplyDelete
  50. Arniesto, I've seen Fribecka do that a few times!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Arniesto...... ha ha!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Thank you Jodingo!!
I was fishing at Guilford by The Stone House Restaurante.
And it was just a Small black sea bass, that was it for about 3 hs. fishing but not striper no blue nothing a lot of rats in the rock after dark, that was it. I think my next one will be at the river looking for some catfish.

Arniesto: that was you at 21?
You lost some speed but you wet some skills since then.lol.

    ReplyDelete
  61. La Boca, Jodingo!! and Halil are out for this weekend. Carlos hasn't played with us for weeks and Jorge may be at an all night party on Saturday night.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Roniildo.... it's very variable.... i noticed that Div A has been updated but not B....although no results are in the spreadsheet..... useless...

    ReplyDelete
  68. I will send a notification about the field location for this Sunday soon....I guess may be late for picnic coordination but that's what we planned for picnic last time...hot dogs and burgers only

    ReplyDelete
  69. Hulkules...Hulkado....Hulkito?

    ReplyDelete
  70. Tom... if we keep it simple we can bring burgers and hot dogs but it usually takes us several days to get our volunteer list going!

    ReplyDelete
  71. I know John...but should we go for exchange field for this Sunday or not and we will assign who brings what after....need to make quick decision and have to notify the town ASAP....it will be a hot Sunday again

    ReplyDelete
  72. A picnic the following weekend, on the 1st, would be good with Halil, La Boca and I all returning.

    ReplyDelete
  73. i think we should go for Exchange Field and have beer and whatever sitting looking at the sea after the game!

    ReplyDelete
  74. I also agree that we should have a bigger picnic the following weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  75. so try and get the field for both weekends Tom!

    ReplyDelete
  76. ok...I will shoot for the exchange field and hope it will fly by the town....will put it on the blog when I have an answer.

Jodingo, Halil is out for 3 weeks

    ReplyDelete
  77. Del Hulko.....that could be the winner...

    ReplyDelete
  78. I watched the part of the Celtic game last night...wasn't impressed with the game at all...samarati (not sure about the spelling) #9 celtic player is a good player...what was with all the penalty kicks??...that was just a friendly game

I have to say I enjoyed watching the MU game against Phillys better last night

    ReplyDelete
  79. will bring mustard and ketchup, and whatever beers i have in the fridge...BOR let us know if everyone (who is available for Sunday) has had a beer boy turn. If that's the case, we can restart the beer rotation.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Tom

i was at the game in Fenway....good atmosphere and a reasonable game for pre-season.... if you only saw the end of the game i can understand why you would not be impressed but there was reasonable chances for both teams....Samaras has started pre-season well

    ReplyDelete
  81. I couldn't let the Bruce "Tanner" go by with a comment Johnaldo.....The Tanners were on the 80's sitcom Full House (perhaps a fav or yours?).

The Hulk is actually Bruce BANNER.....I think I may be able to take you in Trvial Pursuit!

    ReplyDelete
  82. I agree john, I enjoyed the game as well. The bottom line is Celtic Won......

    ReplyDelete
  83. Bohy, you are good Annie. Good catch the Olsen kids and John Stamos. Used to watch it. And yes Bruce Banner was the incredible Hulk.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Johnaldo
The reason what I call it Hulk "Hogan" to my friend Bruce is because his mustache style are like Hulk Hogan The wrestler and also because I see he can change easily from a furious look to a friendly smile like The Sterling golden Hogan.

    Ronildo:
BOR mention last game he will bring the beer but is better to confirm that I have misunderstanding at ready, for this matter, before. So if You can ask him will be better.
About Pick nick: are we doing or not?
if yes how many we are confirmed to stay after the game?

  93. The Hulk
During the experimental detonation of a gamma bomb, scientist Bruce Banner rushes to save a teenager who has driven onto the testing field. Pushing the teen, Rick Jones, into a trench, Banner himself is caught in the blast, absorbing massive amounts of radiation. He awakens later in an infirmary, seeming relatively unscathed, but that night transforms into a lumbering grey form that breaks through the wall and escapes. A soldier in the ensuing search party dubs the otherwise unidentified creature a "hulk".[27]

    Managers and Assistants,

To date I have received registration form and waivers from 14 teams, there are 69 teams in the league. Today is July 21 the season starts August 15th, your postmark deadline for registrations and waivers is August 1, 9 days from today.

To the 14 teams, Thank You!

To the other 55 teams, you might as well start collecting the forfeit fee from your players when you get the waivers.

You're making me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Guys, here's why I was badgering you to get your info to me on time.....

The League can only function with the member teams following rules and meeting deadline dates set by the League.

It is ridiculous that teams cannot get their passes, etc into Jim for registration.. The League warning that teams will forfeit their game if they do not have their player passes to play. Teams will NOT be allowed to play without them.

The Ex Bd. is getting quite upset with teams that cause the Ex Bd. additional unnecessary work, be it registration, scheduling or not following rules. It may take drastic action by the Ex bD. if this continues. It is better to have 30 teams that follow rules than more than half of 69 that do not.

See you all on August 3, 2010.
