MATCH REPORT; Pumas 3 Madison 0

Report from Jodingo!

We lost 3-0. However, the match wasn't as lopsided as the score would lead one to believe. We were tied at half 0-0. At the 55 minute mark, the Pumas scored one off a miskick by the Madison right fullback, who placed the ball directly onto the foot of a wide open Greenwich striker in front of the goal. Within another two minutes, a ball was failed to be cleared in the 6-yard box and after 3 or 4 miskicks, the Pumas scored from 2 yards out. The last goal came as Madison were pressing toward the end of the game for a goal when TWO Greenwich strikers broke away (and weren't called offside due to a Madison defender who was WALKING (strolling??) more than 10 yards behind the sweeper). Hulk played great; and John B. and Edgimar were solid as well.

Man of the Match;  Hulk

  4. Forget the scores and pulling the positives from these two matches. We broke down as a TEAM and instead of working together as a team we pointed fingers, played disconnected and failed as a team. I may not agree with everyone's style and game plan but we need to be a team at bare minimum. I will do whatever the team wants of me-- I try for a possession game but if long ball is the consensus thefts fine. I do believe we need a game plan we all agree to and I am opposed to long ball and long goal kicks, etc but we need to decide and do it together. We all try hard and everyone makes mistakes but if we are not a team we are nothing. Win or lose.

  5. Long ball doesn't work for our team. You generally need either a lightening fast forward or a tall, strong player that knock balls down and on. We don't have either. If we had more confidence on the ball and players weren't so frightened that they had the ball at their feet then we may be able to pass and keep possession. I would love to see us pass the ball around more. If we have the ball the opposition can't do anything!

  6. Agree with the long ball plan. Better to work for possession. If a fullback or MF notice a clear opportunity then try a long ball occasionally to keep the other team honest. But we are losing possession on 90% of the long balls we have been sending from goal kicks or other play from the defensive end.

A few years ago we had more speed up front or the occasional big target man. We have not had either for a few years...

  7. TomP yes we need a few more players willing to stand up against the opposition defensive line. Sometimes that mean playing with your back to that line and facing your own team. All you might do is act as a target for lay offs but that is the only way we could get a long ball tactic to work. Although that approach would also work with a midfield moving forward and looking for a quick one two....

  8. I obviously agree with keep possession of the ball idea all the time when we play a match game and this is a subject that I have been preaching for many years but we have issues with this style of playing as a teams:
    1. Some players don't listen and just want to play individual game and love to dribble and don't pass
    2. Some players don't have enough confidence on the ball.
    3. Some players have problems with the first touch on the ball. First touch is very important to know how to control the ball....if you don't know how to do it, then you lost the possession of the ball
    4. In order to keep passing the ball, everyone should work hard as a team, keep moving into the space to receive the ball
    5. Fitness is the key and we do lack in this area as a team
    6. when someone is with the ball, there should be at least 3 or 4 players around that player to support and be ready to receive the ball.....look how Barcelona plays the game.....

It will be hard to keep possession of the ball consistently until we improve in these areas
