MATCH REPORT; Easton 3 Madison1

Madison Celtic officially entered the relegation battle by losing to Easton Rhinos 3-1. A bizarre result from a game that saw the Celts dominate large segments of the play. The big issue? The Celts can't score.  So many chances came the way of the visitors in the first half but nothing would go in. The Celts huffed and puffed but could not blow the Rhinos down. Great chances from Carlos, Edjmar and Tano came and went as Easton survived the superior Celtic play. When the home team did attack the solid Madison defence soaked things up with ease. As the first half finished it seemed that it would be only a matter of time for the Celts to wrap up the three points. How wrong could that assessment be?  Very, very wrong! The second half was an unmitigated disaster for the Celts. A break down the Madison right side, aided by a neat lob over Jodingo!!, allowed one of  the Easton strikers to run free into the box. The Hulk then ran off his line mis-judging his ability to get to the ball before the forward and it was an easy task for him to scoop the ball past the stranded goalie for the go ahead goal. That was bad, but worse was to come very shortly after when another attack by Easton resulted in a feeble shot heading towards the Hulk who decided to make like a sieve and let the ball trundle under him into the net. This second goal really hit the team hard and Easton were now in total control of the game attacking at will with the Celts in a  bit of disarray. It was therefore no surprise when they scored a third  by cutting in from the Madison left and sending a shot past the Hulk at his near post. Not his best day at the office but he still managed to pull of a couple of great saves to stop the game from being a total route. John B was also trying his hardest to get the team back into the game and it was his tenacious play that allowed the Celts some comfort by scoring a consolation goal near the end. A poor result for the Celts by any stretch of the imagination and a real wake up call that we have to improve significantly if we want to remain in the league. That task does not get any easier next week when our old rivals Orange come visiting next Sunday. Pride is on the line.....let's see what we are made of!

MAN OF THE MATCH;  Great play from Carlos and Edjmar during the game but MOM goes to John B for another strong performance.

  2. No worries Hulk...we have another shot at it on Sunday. Football can be a cruel game sometimes. Johnaldo mentioned the main issue in his report. We have a mental block right now when it comes to scoring goals. A lot chances are created, but the composure to finish in the box is MIA at the moment, but i am sure we can get it back soon, and turn this season around. Rememeber, we get another crack at all of these teams, and if we work on finishing, we'll be OK

  6. As you mentioned Johnny, we were unable to put the ball in the net and had chances mostly in the first half and unable to take advantage of it specially when Edjmar was playing upfront. I have to give credit to the Easton team because they hung in there, kept their composure, patience and didn't panic when we had control of the game for the first 20 mins.....and they picked up their game and started to play much better after 20 mins into the game once we got sloppy and kept losing the ball.

I think we have seen this scenario too many times and in this season against Vasco Da Gama, Greenwich Pumas and Easton....we play well for a short period and then we get sloppy, start kicking the ball with no purpose, lose our composure and patience and slowly lose control of the game until the opposing team bank on our mistakes. We all make mistakes on any given day but as a team we really need to improve in some areas if we want to stay competitive in this division. I am out of time right now and will continue this later

And guys stop to point yourself or any on who fault is when we lose.
    We are a Team .
I hope everybody understand even those who don't care what I said. Enjoy soccer and win time will be come, when the self-confidence is helped by a positive Team.

  9. Madison Celtic under the Magnify glass

And look at yourself what you did, and if you don't do enough to make You feel good, what you doing today, to make feel better next game, are you working today to make any different next time?
If we can't take serious about practice, why we take serious the result of the game on Sunday?.
Do we have any tactics to play?
If we don't, why we expecting results based on how we play?
So don't expect that much, if nobody take serious the basic principals of any sport, practice hard and getting some tactics, otherwise we bet on individuals that do it all like Rohan or Henriques or Carlos or Jorge or Edgimar or me sometimes, but when we play vs a solid team they just neutralize the individuals and you have nothing, because you play based on that player do it all.

    Or like Jorge said:
ENJOY THE BEERS, THE FRIENDSHIP AND HAVE FUN.

  10. ......all true TANO. Really no point in dissecting us with a scalpel. We play for fun, and difficult for most of us to make team practice. Best we can do is to try and stay fit on our own time, and try to stick to a few simple tactics, like JohnB has been talking about for a while now.

Anyone heard from LaBoca. He is in MIA mode again, at least with me???

  13. I am doubtful for this Sunday. Family event.

    Regarding last week...
    - we did a lot well. First half we created good chances. They had a few, too.
    - second half we made a tactical change to add more to the offense. Not sure that worked. Something to think about: can we adjust our formation given that we do not practice and have issues with our normal formation.
    - the 2nd half change in formation created more stress on defense. Defenders stopped a number of attempts but Easton did well to pressure us.
    - We did Hulk no favors with each goal. On each goal we could have done a bit more on defense to stop it, including me on the 3rd.
    - For me, the different fields impacts our primary plan to have many short passes and control the ball. Think Bridgeport. Think this field with high grass. We need to practice 5-10 minutes of SHORT PASSING right before the match to get a feel for the field.
We suffered in Bpt and this week cause of it. No rhythm in midfield and offense.

    Just my 2 cents....

  16. I agree with Pink. Instead of blasting random shots on goal before the game, our time would be better spent passing the ball around. Even easy drills with 3 or 4 guys passing in a circle with a guy in the middle chasing the ball would help.

  21. I enjoyed the game last Sunday. I think we are getting better as a team but there is always room for improvement. We all agree that it is very unlikely for us to improve technically but I believe we can improve significantly our tactical and conditioning skills and this will have a large positive impact on our games. Here is my proposal. We are going to have a brake between June 24 and August 19. This means we can use 7 weekends (or at least some of them) to improve tactically and physically. We just need to think we are showing up for a game and work for 2-3h on each session. John B could lead the tactical sessions. We can do this!

  22. I am sure there is another game after our game @ 11:00 am. Our track record is not good for early games and players show up very late. I don't have all the details of the field set up and Elgato is more in tune with this. For future purposes, we should try to go for the later game rather than early 9:00 am game.

  23. Tom, I think SASL sets the time, and is not negotiable, unless you have an inside track with the SASL Execs :-)
