At Last! The Season is About to Re-Start!!

Well Summer is officially over...well at least for us. No football for the last 7 weeks has been painful. We did try and get some practice games, a little training ( thanks Rugginho ) and even organised two full team scrimmages but to no avail. Apathy and the weather beat us hands down. But now there is no excuse! The season starts up again this Sunday morning with a game against our closest rivals for a promotion spot; Guilford Bell Curve. After a bit of a roller coaster last session we now sit only two points behind Guilford for the coveted second spot in the league. We need to get out of the blocks fast and hard. We need to play every game as though it's a cup final if we want to get promoted the first time of asking!

Are you up for it? Well are you??

Who is in for the game on the 21st? Town Campus, 10 am. Anyone able to make a Thursday night practice at Cox?

I will let The Hulk work out the beer schedule.....

  1. 1. I'm in for the game.
    2. In for practice this week too - I'll show up on Thursday if we think we have enough people. Alternatively, several of us (Kris, Tom A, myself, others...) have been playing Wednesday at HK High School in Haddam at about 6 PMish with the Killingworth team. There have consistently been enough folks there for ~ 7 on 7. If we had more folks show up ( and a couple of keepers), we could potentially run a full-field scrimmage.

  2. Bambi one of the reason we never had enough people at Cox high school on a Thursday night wass that everyone else seemed to have an alternative venue and night....

If you guys want to do Wednesday night thats cool but we should try and get the team together on Thursday night... i have forgotten what you all look like.... thank God

  5. TomA thanks for providing your conditions for playing....

  6. Hey Johnaldo,
The Wed practice is very convenient for me - HK is 10 minutes from my house, Cox is > 30 minutes. If we can get a Thurs. group from our team, though, I'll switch, even if I have to drive more.

Why you insist on practice at Cox instead to practice at Jared Eliot.
You may ask now, Why I insist to play at Clinton?
Because 1)in case only two show up, we still can play with friendly guys that always there. 2)if we are 6 we can play together vs them, and 3) we can look up for new guys to recruit.
That's the way you will get better team.

Johnaldo...Can You contact Guilford Hawks to arrange practice together, and Guilford over 30 that will be good idea too. so we can make Tuesday and Thursday mandatory days for practice.
I remember when I start to play for the Club In Arg. if you show up for practice you have priority to play over the others, even if you are not so good player, and my coach used to said "If you don't practice with the team I have two positions for you one at my right side to the bench and two on my left side to the bench."

  9. Johny, it wasn't meant to be conditional..just wanted to make sure we got enough guys to have a small game..I just didn't want to waste time coming to Cox and find out no one has showed up....that has happened to me a couple of times before

  13. We should agree on the meaning of practicing and playing soccer. I personally prefer to practice, practice and practice together (did I say practice?:)) so that on Sundays, right after the games, we don't talk about the same mistakes over and over again. So... as boring as it may be at the beginning ...we should spend time practicing and improving positions, passes and ball control, if we want to improve the chances of winning the games on Sundays. I like playing random soccer (pick up games) with "strangers" on Thursdays -- it is an excellent way of keeping in shape -- but are we really practicing? And.. is playing random soccer on Thursdays good enough to reduces the mistakes we all do and talk about every single Sunday?..not to mention that there is a high probability of getting injured (trust me on this one).

    Cheers!

  16. Rugginho

i totally agree with you... we never practice anything...ball control, passing, shooting, tactics etc etc etc I would like to do that but we need to get a reasonable number of people to turn up and to then resist the temptation to run around like 11 year old kids screaming for the ball!! Although at this point i would just be happy getting a reasonable number of the squad together to kick the ball around. After this it would be great to think we could get together every Thursday night to actually practice!

  17. Rugginho..
I understand your point and you right about injured. but like I said before if we are like 6 or more guys we practice there the place is big and after we can play too. And when you get injured is when you do a rough practice or when you don't pass the ball you try there to dribble the ball and obviously some one will do something (because the alpha male effect).
But if you don't hard to divided ball no one get injury there, only the dribblers.

  23. Reply to Rugginho's Comment re: Practice
Could not agree more. Pick up games are not bad if viewed primarily as a conditioning exercise. Having a dedicated weekly practice where we work on actual skills would be great, and I'd do my best to show up (as I could really use it...). It does get tough soon, though, as the sun starts to set earlier since most of us can't get anywhere before 6 PM on a weeknight. In reality, we have about 5 weeks left... by Sept. 30th we're out of light - the sun sets at 6:34 ET.

  24. Is a Miracle.
I was at Eliot Clinton and guess what? one of our players was there (Safet).
I was talking to him about practice there, and he is agree too, is plenty space and many guys, to do whatever. He was running and kicking but he didn't play with us, maybe next time (Thursday).
    --------------

I need the best negotiator of us for next Thursday. For the Team help.
    Why?
I seen two guys that we may convince to sign for us. One is from Brasil 10 times better than Henrique, and the other one is like Halil or Ronny, and he understand so good with me or Carlos when we play together. He want to get out of Guilford Hawks, because:"is ok to argue in the game, but when is over is over," he said, and I'm agree with that.
So please help me to recruit those players, and I can guarantee you that we can beat them up to Orange and Guilford easily.

  25. I'm in!
As for practice, I'm also in the line of Rugginho's comment (second by the chairman) - pick up games are useless for team imprvement - all you will see is a player doing the same they do during a game - trying to show up their dribbling skills instead of playing as a team (i.e. Barcelona).

  30. Ummmm...what time is practice/scrimmage at Eliot school in Clinton on Thurs?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Sorry Tom, I only meant in for Sunday. The practice venue is too far for me on a Thursday night (1/2 hour back and forth driving). If you would get practice time at the Sportsplex which is more convenient....

As for more recruits, I personnaly feel confident with our squad, but if you want to bring a new player in, get Scotty to come back. Not only skilled but he is the perfect teamplayer!!! He would be a real complement to the current squad.... Of course if anyone could find Rohan whereabouts - Rorrrooo where are you????....

  32. I hate to be a broken record, but we currently have 8 midfielders showing up for most games for 4 slots: Outside (Rugginho, Bambi, Fribeka, Carlos) and Inside (Halil, Ronildo, David, Jodingo), and Telat also plays outside as well as fullback, making 9. There were already issues in the Spring with playing time. We do not need additional midfielders unless you plan to start dropping people.

  35. 6 PM tonight. 10 AM Sunday.

  36. Bambi....some of the players you mention can also play up front... Safet can also play at the back....to be honest when a player gets on the field they just have to show why they should be on the field!! and why they should be picked for the next game! Let's get the best out of the team over the next ten games. If the focus is how much game time am i going to get then we may not meet the goal of getting promoted....over the the next ten weeks we will have players tarveling, injured or AWOL so we will need the full squad! IMHO
