We have a home game this weekend against Greenwich Arsenal with a 10 am kick off. We played the twice last year losing one and drawing one. It should be a close game but we need to up our work rate and shots on goal if we want to capture the three points.
We have 5 on the roll call so far so let me know if you are playing or not!
Anyone want to be on beer duty for this weekend?

DeleteHello All,
ReplyDeleteIf you go back to May 13th, 2013, you will have seen my posting to this email list about the unfortunate passing at an early age (38) of a well-known Connecticut soccer player, Tony Aguiar, while he was playing soccer. As a reminder of who Tony was, I have included that email for you read, below.
This week several of you have asked me to mention on this email list that there will be a memorial golf tournament for Tony on Saturday, July 20th.
ALL proceeds will benefit Tony's family.
For complete information and the registration form, please find a two-sided PDF file attachment to this email, below.

It is with regret that I have sad news regarding Antonio Aguiar, forwarded on to me by CSSA Vice-President Jack Testani and Newington Portuguese manager Lou Marcelino.
DeleteAntonio (Tony) suddenly passed away on Friday, May 10th, 2013 while he was playing soccer, the game he loved so much. Tony was only 38 years old, born on October 31st, 1974.
Tony was a well-known player in the Connecticut Soccer League (CSL), playing for Hartford Portuguese, and then in the Shoreline Adult Soccer League (SASL), playing for Newington Portuguese (Over-30s) the last few years.
No other details are available at this time.
Both Jack Testani and Lou Marcelino have requested that you remember Tony in a moment's silence before your next game kicks off. You probably do not know Tony at all, but please remember him as a fellow Connecticut soccer player who died while playing The Beautiful Game, the game we all love so dearly.
Dying while playing soccer can happen to any of us, at any time. Over the decades that I have played soccer, I have seen two team mates die while playing. One fell over while he was running with the ball and was dead as he hit the ground. Another, suddenly dropped to the ground during an indoor game. He passed away in hospital several hours later. Both players were incredibly fit, not very old, neither was overweight (skinny, actually) and neither smoked or drank alcohol. The conclusion was that whatever caused their deaths was in their genes. Simply, it was their time.
I have related these two "soccer stories" to give you pause for thought, to think of your families. To think of Tony and his family before your next match. Rest in peace, Tony.
