Guilford Celtic is a Connecticut based team playing in the Shoreline Adult Soccer League since 2010. The team was formed in 2003 and played in the Connecticut Adult Recreational Soccer League for 7 years. In 2017 we changed our name from Madison to Guilford Celtic! NEXT GAME; Sunday 23rd June VS Ridgefield
It's almost time for the Summer mid season break! Time to get to the beach have a glass of wine and relax a bit but, before that we have to endure the last game of the Spring season! And it's the toughest one. A home game against the runaway league leaders Ridgefield. There is probably no point in me saying the obvious, but I will. We have to be at our best to even have a hope of getting anything out of this game. But, I know we can play very well and there is no reason we can't get something from this game.
It is a10am kick off at our normal exchange field field. The beach club have changed their rules now and we need car passes. I sent them to you in a previous email. If you don't print this off, or can't, then you will have to park at the Route 1 entrance. I will print off a few extras but tell me if you need one
We will try and have an end of season bar bq after the game. Who is up for that? Food and booze volunteers?

if you are trying to leave a comment on the blog just do it as normal...It will appear but just a bit later as i am moderating all the comments to try and get rid of the annoying spam bot that has been leaving anonymous posts
ReplyDeleteJohn,
ReplyDeleteI am in and I just left comments on your previous blog but wasn't appearing and didn't want to redo it again because it was long.
John B,
DeleteI agree with most of the things you said. FYI in the past, we have usually played a 4-4-2 formation unless we wanted to try something different or new once in a while...I think 4-4-2 formation works the best for our team....I think players get it but the KEY and the success is that 4-4-2 formation has to work like a spring (going back and forth).
I totally agree with 1-2 or 3 touch soccer and you MUST pass within 3-5 seconds of having ball. Know where you are going to pass before you ask or get ball. All passes should be less then 10 yards away. That's the Barcelona way of playing the game. Pass because you want to, not because you have to, even if you make 5 passes back and forth with same player and it is ok. If you do not have a pass you can hold the ball as long as you don't lose it. This is really to keep the ball and have possession and if we can do that 75% of the time, we can be successful winning the game but the key is fitness and speed.
There is one thing I disagree or may be I misunderstood what you said...you said "Let them have the ball on their half only". That's fine but when they have the ball in their own half, we have to press the ball and their defense and can't just stay back and have them to press us...
The key to winning any game is:
1. To have defense, midfield and forward to go back and forth simultaneously (this is our weakness and we usually have a big gap in the middle, our defense hangs in the back too much and our forward don't come back help the midfield). This way you always have support available to you with the ball or without the ball. Hustling without the ball and moving into space is very important.
2. Having possession of the ball most of the time (at least 70% of the time) and to do something with it when you have the ball.
3. Fitness (as a team, we are weak in this area).
Anyway that's my 2 cents...we can talk about all kinds of formations, structure and strategy....but the bottom line is that we all have to perform on the field and show it with action and not just talk

ReplyDeleteFew years ago, before all the new guys,we were so much weak team, we didn't have John B or Alex in the back, as an example, we have guys that was running more slow, but contradicted to all that we win or drew a lots of games and we just lost a few. However you may ask yourself, what we do different than now?
ReplyDeleteTanks to Johnaldo we can refresh our memory by reading back those reports games, and what I notice was the leadership of the team were shifted. All start when We bring to the team Edimar and we let him to take over the team ( in the field) and we start to fall apart since then. Celtic roots were Ron, Tim Carlos and Jorge. Ron used to play simple just looking for any striker or Halil (a slow midfielder but very effective passing player) and run the attack. The defense wasn't joke around, they just get rid of the ball very fast and cut them out the attack before they build it, the only exception was Telat or super Carlitos with his speed,They went up on the side until they crossed looking for Jorge Ron or any striker and some time they just finish it. Now we have another leader in the field and is John B., I love his ideas, personality and his courage to play hard, but we don't know how to play around him like he planning to it very well. And that's is because we used to play simple, like Celtic instead like Barca, if you want an example. We need to put the ball in the box fast with at least three passes, we don't have players with very good skills to hold the ball, but we have strong players instead, midfielders need to build a simple effective attacks instead to passed around each others. We may don't entertain spectator but we have no one to it. I can guaranteed goals and wins like Johnaldo said to me at the beginning of 2010: " Tano you have to be in the box and we win". We will change this tomorrow.
John B., Ronny, Robert Yes, Ruggy, Jack, etc trust on me like this team did before as striker to score and you won't regret it. Let's beat this team tomorrow and gain the respect from this div. Thanks all for your time my friends.
Anyone have robz's cell #. My emails always end up in his junk mail, so he doesn't get them for days.
ReplyDeleteLaBoca, can you let us know if you are playing tomorrow
