MATCH REPORT; Madison 1 Southington FC 0

Madison ground out a narrow 1-0 victory over Southington FC today under humid , sweltering conditions at the Town Campus field. The Celts started the game on fire with nice crisp passing and incisive forward plays. An impressive number of shots peppered the Southington goal in the opening 15 minutes, as the gulf in the respective league positions looked all too visible. Great midfield play by Jodingo!! and Halil in the middle and Fribeka out on the right stifled any chance of Southington getting on the ball. Southington did have some moments in attack when they managed to get the ball out to their fast wingers but the frugal Madison defense gobbled up every stray ball. Just as it was beginning to look like the kind of game when Madison have all the possession but can't score....they scored! A great ball by Fribeka was flicked on by Ronilldo and then slammed into the net by the ubiquitous and free scoring Jorge for a well deserved lead. The goal was Jorge's 5th goal of the season and the 4th game in a row where he has scored!
The game was set for Madison to push on and rattle in a few more goals against the team at the bottom of the league but instead Southington really became a competitive force in the match.
The visitors started to penetrate into the Madison defence with very direct balls through the middle and on one occasion a fantastic shot was tipped onto the bar by Bruce making a great save. Shortly after that another break away was only stopped by a great sliding foot save by Bruce who was having his busiest period of the game. Possession was more in Southingtons favor than the host team at this point and it would have been no surprise if they had managed to engineer an equalizer. However, Madison kept their composure and made it to the half still in the lead. The second half was more of the same as a fairly even game meandered through 30 minutes. Most of the action was in midfield but every so often there would be break aways at both ends of the field that would result in near misses. Madison had a particularly lucky break when a stray backward header by Tom A needed an outstanding save off the post by Bruce to keep the lead intact. The heat was beginning to tell on both teams as the game slowed to a walking pace. Madison kept possession reasonably well as the game came to a close and it looked unlikely that either team would round of the day with another goal. The final whistle signalled another victory for the Celts , their 4th in a row and they now remain unbeaten over the first 8 games of the season.
Man Of The Match; Bruce. For some outstanding reflex saves that kept the proud Madison defensive record intact Bruce was the clear MOM. Some great work by Fribeka, Halil and Jodingo!! are also worth a mention

  1. guys... too much petulance at the end of the game.... this is not under 10 soccer! Have a disagreement then move on.... no need to take offence or go in a huff.... most of the fun of playing every Sunday is mixing with a bunch of guys before during and after the game..... it is for fun! I know we can get overlay passionate about the game but let's keep it in perspective...... oh, and we are winning akot of games!

  2. guys our next game will be on the 11th July and its a tough top of the table clash away to Bridgeport! We will need our strongest squad available for the game..... so you will be glad to know i can't make the 11th.....

Talking of small parts.....Hey Jodingo!! how's the groin today?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Ha! All parts are functioning and feel great!! Anyone want to to feel? Annie? Seriously, I was a bit concerned with how things would go yesterday, and I couldn't have asked for better results! Looking forward to the 11th vs. Bridgeport. We'll miss you, kind of, Johnaldo! Thanks for the shirt!

  9. ...and no fighting or cuss words when i'm away!!

  10. Johnaldo, my wife is so happy to know that you provide laundry services! You do dry cleaning and alterations as well?!?

Good report, and England - wow! but not surprising! But FIFA should fine/punish the German keeper! not for what he did during the goal cause that was smart, but for acknowledging at the press conference that he did it - total lack of sportsmanship! and those 2 ref. should be banned from international games! It would have not change the game though! England was outplayed, and why no England coaches realize that Lampard and Gerrard have no business playing in midfield together!

Go Oranje! Go Oranje! Go Oranje!!

  11. Good reporting Johnaldo. Another poor performance by Roonie and England's defense giving up 4 goals. So far, I don't even remember when was the last time England national team performed well in the World CUP games....may be before my time....I think once the European leagues recruit local country talents vs foreign talents....they will start doing better in the World Cup games.

What a beautiful goal by Podowski and Tevez yesterday..what a shot by Tevez.

  12. Hi All,
As you need a result on the 11th, you'll be glad to know that again I'll be missing. Leaving on the 10th for 2 weeks in Hawaii, I'll actually miss games on the 18th and 25th as well. Kick some butt, and I'll see you at the end of July (with a good suntan hopefully).

  13. Good report John and I agree with your point on try to relax a little bit, I seen that we start a contagious behavior of whines. Yesterday we ended the game arguing eachothers like it we lose 4-0 in on a slump season games.
But the reality is way different. Why?
Because we are invictus this season.
We have a solid defense a support midfield an a hungry forwards.
In this Division I didn't see other Team more solid and aggressive than us.
I see some are overreact, and if you have a complain about how we play all the time I invite you to join others Teams and see if that make you happy, or some Guys are never happy no matter what?
I seen today a forward (Slovakia WC) who missed a goal, and I thought if any players of Madison Celtics miss a goal like that, he probably will be tortured and blasphemed for the rest of his life.

    My opinion is:
We need more positive mentally support each others if some player make a good move or any thing good tell him the his doing great job.
But if some one make a mistake, think that he need another chance or opportunity so we can said things like: "next time" "come on don't worry you can do better" or just be quiet and think he probably have a bad day. We are not the Army, or a bunch of crazies Italians obsessed , is a Fun Sport if you enjoy it.
This is a team with no contracts and no profit to anyone, we pay fees for play, gas for shows, and after all that effort imaging some guy in his bad mood tell you M.F. or AS.H...
Are we so masochist to pay for it?
I played in many Teams and the best ones are those who have people who support each others and the criticism is very occasionally.
I hope my Captain talk to us and explain better next game before we start and if some one is not happy, just please leave us be.

  14. Tano, I agree with you....it's not worth driving over 45 minutes for a home game and get verbally abused by some oblivious & delusional teammate.
I have no desire to hear F.U. while trying to calmly address & sort out someone's irrational whining.
Since playing minutes seem to be the main whining point I will abstain from using anymore.
Good luck in the remaining games.

    Regards,

    Dejan

  15. It was very hot and humid ou there bhoys, and tempers got a little frayed at the edges. If we just think about being calm and courteous to each other....no problem. Let's just shake and get on with it. It has been a great year so far with picnics and the soccer, so let's keep it that way...water under the bridge

Expect to see everyone who's not on vacation at the Bridgeport match week after July 4th

Here'd to a great bunch of team mates :-))

Dejan if you feel so bad about someone swearing at you i'm not sure how you have managed to stay in soccer all these years.... where i come from it's called industrial language.... It would be a shame if you decided to leave.... Sunday is not just about the game but also the camaraderie....and yes sometimes the arguments....

.... it's also a shame because i just finished your player focus....

  18. Don't misunderstand my post.
I try to lets everybody chill out and play with no extra pressure. But I'm not a quitter, I will play and play no matter what and I always try to fix any disappointing thing after the game drinking and laughing about how I missed a goal.
To me you can said any thing in the field and my answer back alway will be:"Sorry next time I make your sister happy".

I been too serious on the blog lately, but sorry Annie I can't make jokes or funny comments for now,I'm worry about Jodingo stitches of his episiotomy.

  21. A Team Building Intervention Program: Application and Evaluation with Two University Soccer Teams.
by Mike Voight , John Callaghan

The team building intervention program utilized in the present case study is a field-tested version of a "hands-on" approach conceptualized by Yukelson (1997). The framework behind the intervention program consisted of the following components: shared vision, role clarity-acceptance, strong leadership, individual/team accountability, team identity, and open/honest communication. The intervention program was delivered to two Division I women's soccer teams.

    ReplyDelete
  22. The seven stages of team building, which represent general implementation procedures, were as follows:

Stage One: A formal needs assessment is conducted by coaches who specifically attempt to answer the question, what does this team need to do to be successful?

Stage Two: Using this information, coaches develop a specific plan, addressing how they can get the team to improve upon these needs.

Stage Three: An initial team meeting is conducted between the team and coaches; the meeting consists of an educational orientation about what team building is, and then the coach can facilitate brainstorming sessions on what this team needs to do to be successful (coaches list their comments and those from the players on a blackboard or equivalent).

    ReplyDelete
  23. Stage Four: The team prioritizes their input (most important needs), and then additional brainstorming is conducted to define each point, and how it can be assessed and accounted for.

Stage Five: Follow-up meetings can be conducted to develop short/long range goals and action plans (how do we plan on achieving these goals?).

Stage Six: Follow-up meetings can include evaluation of team's progress on their standards and goals (via rating sheets and open discussions). It is absolutely critical to provide feedback/evaluation to the players for the intervention to have maximal effect.

Stage Seven: Team meetings can then be setup to deal with conflicts which may occur during the season!!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Effective teamwork can often be the difference between success and failure. This can be exemplified by the paradox whereby teams full of talented players fail to use their individual resources and fall short of standards, while teams with less talent and resources are successful and exceed their expectations (Hardy & Crace, 1997).

    England??

    ReplyDelete
  25. Effective teamwork has been conceptualized as: (a) taking advantage of the various abilities and backgrounds of its members; (b) interacting and working toward shared goals; (c) balancing the needs of the team with the needs of the individual members; (d) structuring methods of communication

    ReplyDelete
  26. Can't we all get along?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Tano-I am laughing out loud about Jodingo's!! Episiotomy! After a long crap day, that was so funny-sorry Jodingo!!

Johnaldo's right....had to lay low after my last round of posts filled with typos!

Sorry Therapist.....will let you get back to your team therapy session...

    ReplyDelete
  28. Annie, thank you, this session is costing the team a lot of money, and they do need the powerful effects of a therapy session

    ReplyDelete
  29. John, nothing to do with residual emotions but life policy. Simply put....I don't associate with people and certainly do not retain friends that call me names or say F.U. to me.
I'm usually ready to discuss issues in a civil manner with anyone. However I do lose respect for irrational persistent whiners (adults. Heard it all before and have no desire to hear more of it.

Anyway if you are short players and need a 10th, 11th or 12th player let me know and I'll make the time.

    Regards,

    Dejan

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'll have you know Dejan that Mohammed Sacirby is a personal friend of mine. If you don't know who he is, I'll explain it to you. Your comments several weeks ago to Safet were completely out of line, and offensive to him and to me as well. As far as your comments about "some oblivious and delusional teammates" and "irrational persistant whiners," I will take the high road here and try to move on.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Tano, I appreciate your misplaced concerns! I know some women who might be in greater need of your wishes.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Dejan...... LOL ... if i had that as a life policy i would have no friends! Some of my closest friends have told me to **** off when appropriate..... and sometimes it was!

    Anyway, to each his own....

    ReplyDelete
  33. hey Jodingo!! i like to think we are all irrational persistant winners! Ha! See what i did? Changed whiners to winners.....

who the Hell needs The Therapist anyway....

    ReplyDelete
  34. Jodingo, unless you are joking your actions were/are not so irrational but certainly delusional towards me :)

If I was out of line towards Safet why did he end up apologizing to me after he made anti-Serb statements?

I was speaking with seveal Celtics about WC scores and Safet who was not in the conversation interjected that he was happy that Serbia lost. Then Safet proclaimed that he didn't like Serbs so I simply asked him why. Then he asked me where I was from and I told him Bridgeport, CT. He wanted more specifics so I told him that my family is Serbian.
My name (Serbian/Croatian)is kind of a give away and so is his (Muslim). If my comment that he should do some research before making allegations is offensive to you I recommend you do the same before you believe in political propaganda.

You can claim to be taking the high road but your statemens and actions certainly do not support your allegation.

Lots of conjecture, allegations, disturbed earth and missing bodies.
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/1995/aug/19/warcrimes

By the way I set up Safet for three break-aways but I can't remember him giving me a pass and he certainly did have several obvious chances to do so.

    Regards,

    Dejan

  35. Let's leave the politics at home. For your edification, my friend was the Bosnian ambassador to the U.N. during the war. I'm dropping the topic, and I suggest you do likewise.

  37. On a cheerier note, some big, big games coming up...Spain-Portugal today and Holland-Brazil Friday. Both worthy of being championship games.

Just remember Johnaldo, all you need to remember is, "Go Oranje!!"

  38. Jodingo!! I think i will be going Blue and White ( azul y blanco ) for this World Cup!

    Vamos Vamos Argentina!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Jodingo, no need to educate me as to who your buddy is and for your enlightenment.....you guys brought up politics not me.
I figure I'll mention that my grandfather lived his whole life in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Consider the Serbian - Muslim topic dropped.

Looking forward to seeng two good games today. Theoretically Paraguay & Spain should advance but then real time, luck and whistles enter the picture. Hoping to see great performances by all teams.

  48. So, Woodbridge and Bridgeport did not play each other at the weekend....that doesnt happen for a few weeks. Both won their games so we are still 3rd on 20 pts with 9 games played, Bridgeport 2nd on 21 pts with 9 games played and Woodbridge 1st on 21 pts with 10 games played. The away game to Bridgeport will be a big one!!

  49. The 2010/2011 Season will be starting before you know it (August 15, 7 weeks from yesterday). I will be taking over all registration duties. By now all teams, with a few exceptions, should have mailed their passes back to their registrar. Also, I will need a new 2010/2011 Registration Form (will be updated on the website by Garry), emailed to me. I also will need a new 2010/2011 waiver form for each player, which has been on the website for a few months. I am also in the process of updating registration requirements, which Garry will place on the website as well. Registration forms and waiver forms will need to be postmarked by July 31 for play on August 15th.

  50. SASL season starts on Aug 15th which is 2 weeks before our CARSL season ends. These games are Milford at home and New Fairfield away. I guess we could forfeit these games or try and play them? To try and play at least the home game would mean two games in the one day? I would try that if we have our full squad and our SASL game is also at home that day?.... no playing time complaints if we did that..... the new fairfield away game is too far. The simplest thing would be to give up on both games but we may be in league winning position around that time..... what do you think?

    ReplyDelete
  51. I say we forget about the CARSL games and concentrate on the new league at that point. We can proclaim ourselves the champions!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Jodingo!! what if we only need 3 points to really win it?

    ReplyDelete
  53. Johnaldo:
I don't have to say which Team I wish it to win the WC (you know this).
But the reality is the every one of the Team can coach better than Diego Maradona.
For me Argentina be in the finals will be just another miracle of Messi, Palermo and so on , they are so lucky guys and very good players; but you need a strategy also and Diego doesn't have any .
By logical chances, the final is Brasil vs Spain, second may Holland vs Spain, or Brasil vs Germany.
And if any miracles happen can be Uruguay Vs Argentina or Ghana vs Paraguay? games are games and Soccer is unpredictable specially now with this Jabulany ball and referees.
About me to score a goal? may be jinx from you, or so many guys that envy a guy who scored a goal, and have selfish feeling. They may need to change to different sport to play golf or tennis, any individual sport that you don't share your ego and the victory is just only for one. Thats why in soccer if you don't feel the team like you are part of them, in defeat or victory, and just think about what you did and what they did for you to show up your ego and then you became a selfish, insecure and arrogant like Cristiano Ronaldo and personally I can't stand on those guys, even Messi sometimes have a sins of vanity, but I have a little be of tolerance on him, because his skills are so freaking good.
In two words, John, if I don't score any, but we win it don't matter to me, even if I have to hear jokes from Jodingo about it :o).

    ReplyDelete
