Communication is a process of transferring information from one entity to another. Communication processes are sign-mediated interactions between at least two agents which share a repertoire of signs and semiotic rules. Communication is commonly defined as "the imparting or interchange of thoughts, opinions, or information by speech, writing, or signs". Although there is such a thing as one-way communication, communication can be perceived better as a two-way process in which there is an exchange and progression of thoughts, feelings or ideas (energy) towards a mutually accepted goal or direction (information).[1]
OK guys, we need to improve this really simple process of communicating urgent events to the team like a venue switch or a game cancellation. I recently drove all the way to Southington to watch you guys only to drive all the way back because no one "communicated" to me that the venue had switched! Now at least 6 guys turned up for the game against Clinton because our communication process was defective.
Looks like Tom does not read e-mail or text messages over the weekend so you CANNOT communicate with him using those approaches. You need to see him eye ball to eye ball or call him and actually talk to him....not his voice mail! This is a bit of a problem because he is the main team coordinator so if another team coach "communicates" with him by e-mail to say the game is cancelled he won't read it until Monday. We should put my name and number forward to the league so that at least I can get the information first hand about cancellations. I will set up a phone tree system for communication of cancellations, as was suggested at our bar meeting.
Over half the team did check the blog last night and this morning so that is somewhat effective but not the answer.
Hope you agree but please give me your comments!
I agree John,
ReplyDeleteBut one thing does not make sense. Tom sends email over the weekend like last rainy day on Saturday evening around 9 but can not read emails over the weekend?
We decided the blog is the main way of communication so if some decide to read it some days and not other days would make things more cumbersome for others to go above and beyond the line of duty...
If I receive an email or call I make sure I at least forward to you, because I know it would end up on the blog for everyone to see. If we are going back to phone tagging for every event then, Lets just go with that and read blog just for fun.
Well the blog is for fun, that's why i started it!....but it really needs everyone to read it for it become an effective announcement tool.... i guess we will have a combo of call tagging and blogging for now....
ReplyDeleteWhere is Paul Revere when you need him? :)
ReplyDeleteat least he had a horse......
ReplyDeletewhat's the chances of having make up games before the end of the year?
ReplyDeleteI guess its up to both teams specially Clinton since they have to provide the field and pay the ref.
ReplyDeleteJorge drove Mystic, the Turk twins trekked from Bridgeport, I came from afar myself only to witness an empty field and Tom in the parking lot telling me the game was canceled....no sh_t!! Yes, we need some form of redundancy in our communications.
ReplyDeleteI second John to be the main contact with the league, so that the whole team gets early communication of venue changes cancellations...whatever. I am happy to play a big role in the telephone trees for the guys that do not read the blog, e-mails etc.
ReplyDeleteI've got the beer for next week!

yes i am in for next Sunday!
ReplyDeleteBehrooz and John,
ReplyDeleteMistakes that happened over the weekend and this is what we need to do from now on:
1. Alec should have contacted me personally by phone and not just rely on email alone specially when the game gets cancelled in the last minute.
2. I do read email over the weekend but in case of cancellation, people that run the team (Tom and John) have to communicate by phone first to discuss how to contact the rest of the team. I didn't check email yesterday, just like some of our players because it was a nice morning, no rain and sun was coming out and I didn't suspect that game was going to get cancelled....and didn't see any reason checking email. Behrooz should have called me when you got the cancellation email since you responded to Alec's email. Another lesson for next time. In case of cancellation, John and I will contact each other by phone as usual to discuss how to contact the rest of the team.
Yes for Sunday

ReplyDeleteTom, this was not a last minute cancellation. The information was past around Saturday afternoon. We were aware of the possible cancellation on Saturday. It was all over the blog.
There is rain forecast for Sunday. Have your cell phones ready on Saturday evening...
