Thursday Practice is on again@Cox

Yes, the last Celtic Rangers game of the season finished 0 0 on Sunday leaving Celtic one point behind Rangers but with a game in hand. Celtic have 5 games left to win the league and one more after that to win the Scottish cup in what would be an outstanding first season for Neil Lennon as manager of Celtic. Even if the league and cup double does not come to pass his passion and tactical acumen has turned Celtic into a truly competitive fighting force once again .

Anyway, enough about them! What about us?

6pm practice this Thursday night at Cox school.

Last week was a good workout and we needed it!

Our next full game is a home game this Sunday against Hamden. More to come on that later in the week.

No Scheduled Game Tomorrow, But...

Happy Easter to all! As you know there is no game tomorrow morning but I want to check if there is any interest in having another practice down at Cox school around 10 am? It may be too short a notice but if you are able to make it can you leave a yes in the comments section below?

Tomorrow morning is also a big moment in the race for the Scottish premier league title as Celtic play Rangers away from home. Rangers are at the top of the table one point ahead of Celtic but Celtic have a game in hand. This game is being played against a backdrop of heated debate around bigotry and sectarianism in Scotland after bombs were sent to Celtic manager Neil Lennon and other high profile Celtic fans. Let's hope the game goes off without incident and people end up talking about the football not the insane fools that have taken their hatred of all things Celtic to new levels.

Thursday Night Practice@Cox

Guys we have a 6pm practice at Cox school in Guilford on Thursday night. We will need to get in to a regular pattern of practice nights so we can get the rustiness out of our play. Looks like we will have a reasonable turn out and hopefully the fields will be available. Someone should probably bring a ball!

I'll get there as soon as i can... on a flight that lands at 6pm in New Haven.....

Spring training is nearly here!

Yes! Believe it or not the outdoor season will be with us in less than a couple of months! Even though right now we have snow on the ground and freezing conditions, apparently it will all disappear! It's called Spring! And when it gets near to Spring you have to do some Spring training. I know you have all been keeping fit but i thought it might help to get some competitive training going. So, let's have another go at the training competition that was so popular last Fall. The Toe won that session easily.....with the help of a squad of professional trainers! I know a few of you could not understand the complicated math last time so I've made it really easy this time;

If you work out, walk, run, jog, lift weights or even sweat for a 10 minute period you get 2 points!

So it's really simple, for every 10 minutes of exercise give yourself 2 points!

Let's start the competition on Monday March 2nd and run it for 7 weeks ending Sunday 19th April, which could be the first day of the new season. I have attached an easy table to track your points in the update e-mail....every week send me your points. Are you in?

For those of you doing the double header game tonight see you later!!

The Fitness Challenge has a Winner!

Yes, after four tough weeks of profuse sweating, painful exercise at the gym, extensive road running, prodigious weight lifting and one terrible soccer game I still managed to lose to the eventual Fitness Challenge winner..... Ron "The Toe"Barba! The final result wasn't even close....Ron, with the help of a trained professional assistant mind you, amassed 305 points!!

I think the focus article on him really spurred him on!

I am currently holding down second position with 191 points and Rob H third on 190 points. ....but I've still to hear from him on any exercise he did this Monday or Tuesday. I think i could be heading for third if he has managed 30 minutes of workout on either of those days. My trip to Disney didn't really come at a good time for this competition....get my excuses in first.
Everyone else who started out in the competition or said something about it.... Behrooz, Jody, Ron, Jacques,Tom P and someone called Choccie Biscuit all fell by the wayside or couldn't be bothered to send me their points. The last i heard they were all roughly on the 80-90 points mark Anyway thank you for joining in and well done for doing any of it! I think this Challenge win has helped Ron to keep his fitness levels going for the game and the same with Rob which is great for the team. We need players that can last more than 30 minutes!
I'll see if we are up for a similar challenge sometime next year. Anyway, I'll have to go and find a suitable prize for "The Toe".......Well done Ron!!

Fitness Challenge Update: Week 1

All right, calm down, calm down.... the storm is over and it's time for the first update on the fitness challenge. OK, so huge numbers of you joined up for the challenge.....? Well, a few of you.... I have some points to share starting with myself! Only missed one day of exercise, when i was travelling, and couldn't be bothered to do anything when i got home so, my points total for the week is..... 49!!

Other points scored this first week: Rob H....49 pts, Ron K....35 pts, Behrooz....46 pts, Jody....38 pts and our current leader after week 1.....Ron B with....95 points!!

I'm sure the rest of the team have been doing the challenge but are just too shy to share their scores..... You could disguise yourself? Nobody but me will know...... go on. If late scores come in I'll add them in.
