MATCH REPORT; North Haven 3 Madison 1
The new season started with a disappointing 3 1 defeat away to North Haven but there were a lot of positives to take away from the match. Some old faces back in the squad and some new ones gave the team a bit of a fresh feel. The game started off fairly evenly with some good attacking moves from both teams. Dave Slade was getting the ball through to the front line and the rest of the midfield were fighting hard for the ball. Unfortunately, Alex had to hobble off with a hamstring pull very early in the game causing a reshuffle at the back. The away team kept fighting hard and it was actually a superb pass by Slade that found Tano on the edge of the box. The slippery striker controlled the ball well and slotted it past the goalkeeper to put the Celts one up. Unfortunately that seemed to be the high point of the game as shortly after that the home team got back into the game after a set piece move caught Dustin off guard and the ball spun in to the net for the equalizer. All tied at half time seemed fair but the second half saw the Celts struggle to get their passes to connect and the home team became increasingly confident scoring twice more to run out with an easy 3 1 win. Having said that Madison showed some great moves in the first half and were just short of some fitness in the second
Man Of The Match; some good play by David, Tano and Ronnie but the first MOM goes to Johnny B for his hard driving approach in the first half

Yeah, with Alex going out so early, it certainly shook us up a bit at the back. I think having Jim and Tim back at CBs this week will be good, and Eduardo can move back to right winger.
ReplyDeleteAgree. We have good options at the back but for this first game we were a bit thin
DeleteI'm really looking forward to playing at Bitner Park on Sunday. That field is awesome-big thanks to Bermuda Dan for getting us the field :-)
ReplyDeleteWill bring out all our silky soccer skills!
DeleteThank you for the match report John, We did much better vs. them this year and Dustin have a little close to save the free kick.
ReplyDeleteLets keep doing good Vs. Morelia and have great inauguration of the new home field.
See you Sunday.
don't forget to visit the "clubhouse" after the game!
ReplyDeleteLast season we had Mike and Tim to play in middle back but with mike absence Alex was his good substitute but unfortunately Alex pulled his hamstring and Edwardo took his place. I think Edwardo should play in middle back and not a right winger and being tall can collect high balls and he is a good ball handler and can play in front of Tim or on his side. our fitness is always an issue as a team but there were 2 main reasons we lost this last game. 1. losing or giving out the ball too quickly instead of being patient with the ball, control the possession, knocking the ball around and work on building and creating opportunities. North Haven did a much better job in this area 2. North Haven had a better control of midfield and creating opportunity for their offense specially in the second half and our midfield didn't..and that's why they scored 2 more goals and constantly putting pressure on our defense.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, Edwardo can play in any position he is comfortable playing and not just in the middle back or right back winger....he can be a good midfielder as well
ReplyDeleteWe already have 8 midfielders, so it is already a challenge for John and I to balance playing time for everyone. Good job fitness is an issue otherwise there would be more complaints about playing time :-)
