NEXT GAME; Sunday 1st May vs Cheshire United!

The  next  Celts game is another home game at Bittner park vs Cheshire United. This is a 10am kick off so getting there early will be good for warm ups, team tactics, political discussion etc etc. The Cheshire team have drawn their first two games of the season so let's go get another win and create some early point distance between us and them!

I'll be in  Scotland hopefully watching Celtic winning the league for the 5th time in a row!

MATCH REPORT; Madison 4 Morelia 2

The Celts played their first home game of the season at Bittner park against old rivals Wallingford Morelia and it proved to be a memorable match! The weather was sunny, the field was a plush green and the team was full of energy right from the kick off. The Celts got an early grip on the game with strong midfield play and aggressive forward attacks. Some early chances to score were missed but most of the possession was going the way of the Celts. The only fly in the ointment was the ability of the Morelia midfielders to send balls into the Celtic back line and cause confusion. And well against the run of play Morelia took advantage of that confusion to score the opening goal. The ball didn't get cleared quickly enough and the visitors reacted smartly to slam past Dustin. After this set back the Celts started to fight even harder. Their passes weren't connecting that well but the midfield and forwards were running hard and hassling to get possession back.  Several clear chances came and went for the Celts before a superb pass to Ronnie allowed him to run and slot in a great equalizer. The cheers and celebrations had barely died down when the Celts lost another goal. This one almost a carbon copy of the same defensive confusion that caused the first one. Clearly upset by this quick loss the Celts grimly held on for the end of half  so they could regroup. And regroup they did, with some tough halftime talking and a realization that Morelia were there for the taking. The usual list of injuries had also occurred with  both Eduardo and Nino hobbling out of the game but the team entered the field with the right attitude.
The second half was a superb fighting display by the Celts. So many great midfield runs by Dave S, Johnny B, Tom A and Ronnie supplemented by scintillating forward play by Leo, Tano, Ravi and Rob. So many great shots and near misses came and went for the Celts and it looked inevitable that the home team would win this but with the clock running down Morelia were holding on to their slim lead. And then the dam broke and the Celts ran away with the game.  The equalizer came with a great pass from Ravi to Johnny B who slipped the ball into the net. After this goal it was all Celtic and if it wasn't for the heroics of the Morelia goalkeeper the Celts would have been out of sight. But with only 15 minutes left in the game Dave Slade put Ravi not the box with great pass and he didn't hesitate to flick the ball past the brave goalie. The icing on the cake was a brave goal from Rob Goody who flicked the ball over the head of the Morelia goalkeeper as he was about to get hammered by him.
A well deserved, if hard fought three points for the Celts.

MAN OF THE MATCH; So many great performances, especially in the second half. But outstanding play from Ronnie,  Tom A, Johnny B and Dave Slade in midfield as well as Leo and Ravi up front  were notable. But because of his tackling, surging runs and two assists the mom goes to David Slade!

Thanks to Annie for the great photos!

NEXT GAME; Sunday 24th April vs Morelia

Our first home game of the season is this Sunday at Bittner Park Guilford.  The field is just off Route 77 , 3 miles up from Exit 58 I95. It's a great field so no excuses about bad conditions affecting your smooth soccer skills !

It's a 10 am kick off and we are playing against Wallingford Morelia. Let's get there early and get set to grab the points!

Drinks at the team clubhouse after the game!

MATCH REPORT; North Haven 3 Madison 1

The new season started with a disappointing 3 1 defeat away to North Haven but there were a lot of positives to take away from the match. Some old faces back in the squad and some new ones gave the team a bit of a fresh feel. The game started off fairly evenly with some good attacking moves from both teams. Dave Slade was getting the ball through to the front line and the rest of the midfield were fighting hard for the ball. Unfortunately, Alex had to hobble off with a hamstring pull very early in the game causing a reshuffle at the back.  The away team kept fighting hard and it was actually a superb pass by Slade that found Tano on the edge of the box. The slippery striker controlled the ball well and slotted it past the goalkeeper to put the Celts one up. Unfortunately that seemed to be the high point of the game as shortly after that the home team got back into the game after a set piece move caught Dustin off guard and the ball spun in to the net for the equalizer. All tied at half time seemed fair but the second half saw the Celts struggle to get their passes to connect and the home team became increasingly confident scoring twice more to run out with an easy 3 1 win. Having said that Madison showed some great moves in the first half and were just short of some fitness in the second

Man Of The Match;  some good play by David, Tano and Ronnie but the first MOM goes to Johnny B for his hard driving approach in the first half

NEXT GAME; Sunday 17th April vs North Haven

Another season beckons with our first game of the 2016 campaign away to North Haven!  The game is a 10 am kick off but I'm sure Ronnie would like most of you there early to warm up. In other news Celtic will play The New Rangers in the Scottish cup semi final tomorrow morning 7am kick off. Hopefully I'll be in a good mood!!

Field direction are below;

RIDGE ROAD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL:
1341 Ridge Road, North Haven, CT
I-91 North or South to Exit 10 (Route 40, Mount Carmel). This will put you on to Route 40, "the connector" (to Route 10). On the connector, take Exit 1 for Dixwell Avenue, Hamden. At the end of the exit at the traffic light turn left. Go to the next traffic light and turn left onto Hartford Turnpike. Proceed straight through the next traffic light, which will be at the intersection with Dixwell Avenue. Once through this intersection, continue straight on Hartford Turnpike for approximately 0.8 miles. Near the top of the hill there will be a blinking yellow light. At this light turn right into the back entrance to Ridge Road Elementary School. The field will be just ahead on the right and you can park anywhere along the driveway.
