MATCH REPORT; Madison Celtic 1 Clinton Over 30's 3
A great game against a strong Clinton over 30 team resulted in a 3 to 1 loss for the Celts but they could hold their heads high after a spirited performance. It didn't look like it was going to be a fun match after the Celts lost two very early goals to rusty play. But they tightened up their performance and a great move involving Johnny B and Tano resulted in a debut goal for Ravi.
The game was a very even affair right to near the end when Clinton slotted a great third to close out any chance of an equalizer for the Madison team. As a pre-season warm up it was a very useful exercise. Great to see Alex, Eduardo and Edimar back playing for the Celts. Was also great catching up with ex Madison legend Flaco! Carlos was playing defence for the opposition and still looked like he could play for the over 20's!

Thank you for those players who showed and play today, was good to see you Alex back to the team, Welcome back my friend.
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you John for the report.
Now I can said we have a competitive defense, Eduardo is back to the team too, and beside he stole my free kick, :( is good to have you back Eduardo. Also we have new and improved player, after long winter season of scrimmage, and very fit, (he was the one who score the goal today John), Ravi just deviate his chipped ball and rich another spot in the net and he was? Ronnildo!!
All over the field help the three lines, CONGRATS RONIEE.
To add more info from my perspective, today in the game we were in one point that we got lost from our roles and run like little kids all over, but that was part to have 3 guest players that we can't control it that much, But our defense did a lot of work to hold the score, little close to our goal from my taste.
We need to workout with the team to move as usually call it:short team, and create the connection between def and fwds. Avoid goalie free kicks (like 12 of those today) end it up on 50/50 balls or just give it back.
We need to understand that, hold the def line way back doesn't help to recover the ball or help on the attack and that's why our defense always strugle and have a lot of work. Also when we want to recover the ball by fwds or some midd. players it doesn't work,Why? because when you go after the guy who have the ball and he have easy 3 options of unmarked players around(usually midfielders),the pressure guy end it up on play the game:the monkey in the middle, and that kill the legs of any player over 40's.
If this season we play with some strategy based on our opponents and we adapt to be efficient and aggressive team, we can have fun and easy victories. But since any one can read our blog, we have to discuss this in our practice and one on one conversation.See all soon and get ready for the next scrimmage game on April 3rd. I just waiting for Dan respond about time and fields available, and I'll send you an email. CHEERS.
Tano, good summary!
DeleteHi tano, thanks for the nod today :-) it is good to be back playing as a fit player again-much more fun. We need to push this year to get one team practice during the week. Other than the guys who travel a lot for business, we must be able to get out for an hour and half once a week to practice -NO??? We can talk about strategy, get to know each other better, and have some fun!
ReplyDeleteA regular team practice during the week would help a lot.
ReplyDeleteGood job ,boys wondering if you have a spot for me this season, I was out most of last season because of injury. La Boca
