A super win for the Celts this weekend as they ran out two nil victors against a stubborn Hamden team. The Celts started the game very strongly with good aggressive attacks that panicked the Hamden defense right from the get go. Tano was in scintillating form right from the starting whistle probing the Hamden back line for weakness and getting off shots when he could. The Celtic midfield played with confidence throughout the first half and the defense, apart from one breakaway, dealt with Hamden's attacks with ease. Having said that, the first half still end with the teams tied in a goalless deadlock. But that changed dramatically within the first 15 minutes of the second half with an amazing run of play from Rob Bz! His aggressive, no nonsense midfield play was really unsettling Hamden all over he field. In fact his never give in approach to running down what looked like a dead ball lead to the opening goal. A ball across the Hamden defense was being shepherded away to safety by the impressive Hamden no23 when Rob hassled him all the way to the throw in line and snagged the ball off him. Quickly turning he whipped the ball across the box and there was Jorge Vincente to slam in his first goal for the Celts! A well deserved lead but Rob was not finished, a few minutes later, on the edge of the opposition box, he got the ball again went past one player, slipped, held his footing then crashed in an amazing shot past the helpless goalkeeper. Two nil and the Celts were buzzing. A number of chances came and went for the Celts during the remainder of the half but a third goal would not happen. To be fair, the Hamden team never gave up and actually had two shots that crashed off the post and bar late in the half. But the Celts were never in any danger and ran out deserved winners
Man Of The Match; Some great play from Tano up front and an impressive midfield quartet were notable but for his amazing burst of play at the start of the second half Rob Bz wins the MOM!
Looks like Jim and Ron were on the bench a lot....

ReplyDeleteWell he IS a doctor after all.....
ReplyDeleteNice match report John! We seem to be gelling well as a team after a few weeks. We have a ton of individually talented players, and now we're beginning to play as a team. I want to reemphasize that our goals came when we started to relax on the ball, found short passes with give and go, which led to Hamden’s defense have to commit players to the ball, allowing us to find the easy gaps that opened up. Cracking strikes by Jorge and RobZ to clinch the 3 points.
ReplyDeleteIt’s early bells on Sunday lads, so don’t get tanked on Saturday night - we need this game, and if we win it, we’ll be right in the race with the 2 Albanian teams, Wilton and Eli’s. Check out the official SASL website for league standings and match results-it’s pretty cool
yeah...no boozing the night before guys! Well not too much!
DeleteBTW, check out the popping vein on the side of my head in the 2nd photo- being a sideline coach is a stressful job!
