NEXT GAME; Sunday 21st June vs Wilton Wolves

The last game of the Spring/Summer part of the season is this Sunday away to Wilton Wolves.
The game is a 10am kick off and the field directions are below. I know we only have a squad of 11 for this game but some of our best results have been when our backs have been against the wall. I know we can get a point or all 3 against Wilton. Hamden Utd did it last weekend in a 3 3 draw!  Go out and play with no fear, and have fun!

MIDDLEBROOK SCHOOL:

131 School Road, Wilton, CT
Route 15 (Wilbur Cross / Merritt Parkway) to Exit 41 onto Route 33 North, follow Route 33 North to Route 7 North. When Route 33 branches off, stay on Route 7 North for 1⁄2 mile to traffic light (after Saw Mill) to School Road (about 5 miles from Exit 41). Take left onto School Road, go 1⁄2 mile to school on left. Go past school to parking lot on left. Field is in back right corner of school and can be seen from parking lot.

MATCH REPORT; Eli 4 Madison 2

The Celts fell to another defeat at the hands of Eli's last Sunday. By all accounts it was the usual mix of wasted chances, ruthlessly punished mistakes and poor team work.  A poor first half  but a come back with goals from Tano and Johnny B gave the second half a better feel. But, the main thing is we are making chances and if our luck changes we will start to win games!

MATCH REPORT; Madison 1 North Haven 4

An evenly contested first half gave way to a second half cave in as the Celts slump to a four one loss.  The first 15 minutes of the game were all Madison as they attacked assertively from different parts of the field. Their dominating play was rewarded with an early goal  as Leo cut in on the Madison left and curled an unstoppable shot past the opposition goalie  ( Video below! )  Unfortunately, that would prove to be the high water mark for the Celts in this game as the North haven team pushed themselves into contention and then full control. The visitors rapidly shook off their opening rusty play and were now smoothly passing the ball around the Madison midfield and getting shots on goal. They started to get most of the possession and it was no surprise when they equalized although it took a mixed clearance at the back to give them their chance. The second half was a sluggishly poor performance by the Celt's as the North Haven team took their opportunities  served up on a plate to go 2, 3 then finally 4-1 up to run out well deserved winners.

Man of the Match;  Some stout defending by Tim and Mike R at the back and some great saves from Dustin, one in particular when he palmed a goal bound screamer over the bar. But they could not stop the onslaught in the second half. Not a great day for the midfielders but Leo up from played well and had a great goal. But my MOM goes to Mike up front who ran non stop for the cause and was unlucky with several shots

Juventus vs Barcelona! The Champions League Final!

Juventus vs Barcelona

It's the big one this Saturday! The Champions League final between Italian masters Juventus and the Spanish Kings Barca!  What a mouth watering prospect to savor!  Who do you think will win it? Just vote on the poll top right on the blog!

The unbelievable skills of Pogba, Pirlo and Tevez against the mastery of  Neymar, Suarez and Messi?  Any doubts who the winners will be?  Even Buffon feels that the match up is unfair....he thinks Messi is from another planet !

"Messi is an alien, that dedicates himself to playing with humans.
The only hope is that this Saturday he will be from earth, like rest of us."
-----Buffon

So, I'm going for Barca. I've seen them play a few times at Celtic Park and even though they couldn't beat Celtic I think they have what it takes to win this one!

Anyone watching the game on  a gigantic screen?

Barca!!

MATCH REPORT; Hamden 0 Madison 2

A super win for the Celts this weekend as they ran out two nil victors against a stubborn Hamden team. The Celts started the game very strongly with good aggressive attacks that panicked the Hamden defense right from the get go. Tano was in scintillating form right from the starting whistle probing the Hamden back line for weakness and getting off shots when he could. The Celtic midfield played with confidence throughout the first half and the defense, apart from one breakaway, dealt with Hamden's attacks with ease. Having said that, the first half still end with the teams tied in a  goalless deadlock. But that changed dramatically within the first 15 minutes of the second half with an amazing run of play from Rob Bz! His aggressive, no nonsense midfield play was really unsettling Hamden all over he field. In fact his never give in approach to running down what looked like a dead ball lead to the opening goal. A ball across the Hamden defense was being shepherded away to safety by the impressive Hamden no23 when Rob hassled him all the way to the throw in line and snagged the ball off him. Quickly turning he whipped the ball across the box and there was Jorge Vincente to slam in his first goal for the Celts! A well deserved lead but Rob was not finished, a few minutes later, on the edge of the opposition box, he got the ball again went past one player, slipped, held his footing then crashed in an amazing shot past the helpless goalkeeper. Two nil and the Celts were buzzing. A number of chances came and went for the Celts during the remainder of the half but a third goal would not happen. To be fair, the Hamden team never gave up and actually had two shots that crashed off the post and bar late in the half. But the Celts were never in any danger and ran out deserved winners

Man Of The Match;  Some great play from Tano up front and an impressive midfield quartet were notable but for his amazing burst of play at the start of the second half Rob Bz wins the MOM!
