MATCH REPORT; Pumas 3 Madison 0

Report from Jodingo!

We lost 3-0. However, the match wasn't as lopsided as the score would lead one to believe. We were tied at half 0-0. At the 55 minute mark, the Pumas scored one off a miskick by the Madison right fullback, who placed the ball directly onto the foot of a wide open Greenwich striker in front of the goal. Within another two minutes, a ball was failed to be cleared in the 6-yard box and after 3 or 4 miskicks, the Pumas scored from 2 yards out. The last goal came as Madison were pressing toward the end of the game for a goal when TWO Greenwich strikers broke away (and weren't called offside due to a Madison defender who was WALKING (strolling??) more than 10 yards behind the sweeper). Hulk played great; and John B. and Edgimar were solid as well.

Man of the Match;  Hulk

NEXT GAME; Aug 26th Greenwich Pumas!

We have an away game against Greenwich Pumas this sunday with an 11 am kick off.

CENTRAL MIDDLE SCHOOL:
9 Indian Rock Lane, Greenwich, CT 06830

I-95 to Exit 4, Southbound right, Northbound left onto Indian Field Road.  Go about 1 mile, you will cross East Putnam Avenue/Route 1 where Indian Field becomes Old Post Road #6 and turns sharply right.  Go about 100 yards, turn left onto Stanwich Road and go about 7/10 mile, turn right onto Indian Rock Lane, school on left.  Field behind school.

Teams should note that NO ALCOHOL is allowed on school grounds!

The last time we played them Carlos suffered a bad injury in a game that was fairly even up to that point. We eventually lost 2 -0 but we more than matched the Pumas through most of the game. If we keep our passing errors to a minimum and get a few more chances on goal then we may be able to get ourselves back on track.  The roll call has started already and we need a strong squad for Sunday. Roniildo, El Gato and myself are out but hopefully we will have more than enough to cover.

Remember, SASL rules are extremely tough on any abuse of the ref, and that includes verbal abuse. We can be fined, points ban, player ban or all of the above!  Please, under NO circumstance get involved in a debate about a refs decision. He will NEVER change his mind and you will only piss him off for future decisions.

MATCH REPORT; Guilford 2 Madison 1

A disappointing start to the season re-boot as the Celts slumped to a 2-1 defeat to their old rivals Guilford. The defeat was somewhat surprising considering how easily Madison had beaten Guilford earlier in the season and the fact that the Bell Curve team were propping up the rest of the league. But throughout the game Madison misfired in a number of key areas. Poor passing, non existant tactics and a low energy approach to the game really handed Guilfrod the initiative from the get go. Even though the Celts took the lead half way through the opening 45 mins it proved to be a false sign that the game was going to go their way. The goal itself was great one. A superb overhead kick by Johnny B was spilled by the goalie only for the returning star, Paulo, to quickly flick the ball into the net. Great to see Paulo back on the field after such a long injury lay off. However, Guilford really didn't flinch from this blow and persisted with their strategy of exploiting Celtic's gap down the middle of the field. At times they had 4 or 5 attackers flooding the box with the rest of the Celtic midfield and forward line stranded at the other end of the field. It was on one of these attacks that Guilford got their equalizer with a home team forward nipping in between Goggs and Hulk as they nearly collided in the box. The half ended in stalemate and although it was clear the Celts were sluggish it didn't feel that a defeat would be their fate. But defeat it was, as the second half so no real step up in pace or urgency from Madison. The opportunities that came their way were few and far between and even the set pices were wasted. It was therefore no surprise that Guilford scored on yet another break away to take the lead. To be fair, Celtic produced their best football over the last 15 minutes of the game as they chased an equalizer. With minutes left it looked like it may happen when Tano unleashed a powerhouse of a shot that cannoned of the bar to safety. With that shot the Celts last chance went and the game ended with the visitors facing defeat in a game they should have won but didn't deserve to on the day

Man Of The Match; On a tough day for good passing and attacking play it was the great defensive play by Goggs that stood out. Last minute tackles and great break up play were a feature of Tim's play over the 90 mins and made him man of the match

NEXT GAME; Sunday Aug 19th, Guilford!

Our season kicks off again with an derby match versus Guilford this Sunday! The game is an 8am kick off..... so get to bed early or just stay up ....either way try and get to Calvin Leete school by 7.30.

Guilford have had a pretty poor start to their campaign in div 2 sitting bottom of the league with a paltry 4 points. They have managed only 1 win so far out of 9 games and sit 8 points off of the Celts position looking like an early  season candidate for relegation. Madison can confirm that reality with a win on Sunday creating a 11 point buffer between us and them. Let's not slip up this weekend. Let's drive home our dominance over our old rivals and send an early message to the rest of the league that we mean business!

Having had an initial scare on the squad numbers for the weekend it looks like we will now be reasonably strong!   See you early Sunday!

Roll Call for Sunday!

Sounds like the scrimmage game against Madison over 30 went well with a 5-2 win but now it's the real deal. The re-start of the season! Yes it is this Sunday with an away game at Guilford. It is an 8am kick off at Calvin Leete  High School. Yes that's right it is an 8am kick off!  I've bolded it twice so you notice! Looks like we may have a few players unavailable that day so we need to do an early roll call.  The game cannot be postponed or moved as we are too close to game day....so we have  to play or forfeit!

So, who is in for Sunday?

Roll Call;

Johnaldo
Tano
