The SPL and the EPL have Started!

It's great to see the new seasons start over in the Scottish and English Leagues! I missed seeing all the action and great goals after the World Cup! So who will be the champions? Well for the SPL I of course will be picking Celtic to be champions come May 2011. A new manager, a new team and new enthusiasm to win should be enough to see them past a dilapidated and tiresome Rangers team. They certainly don't deserve to win 3 leagues in a row..... difficult even writing that...ugh..... Celtic started their long campaign with an away win against Inverness Caledonian Thistle! As for the EPL I still can't see past Chelsea ( did you see them destroying West Brom 6-0? ) and Man U fighting it out again for the top dog position. Man City may make their money work for them but that is a rarity in the EPL isn't it? ...... ha! ha! yeah right! Apart from Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool of course....looks like Blackburn may be the latest team to be bought out by some daft billionaire who wants to spend 100,000 million dollars on a team that has the fan base of the New Britain Rock Cats! Why can't we have some eccentric billionaire/millionaire come and buy us out?? For the foreseeable future we will have to rely on our innate skills to make an impact on the soccer field!
Glasgow Celtic's European hopes this year rest on their next two games against Dutch team Utrecht. Thursday night this week is the first leg of their Europa League Qualifier......look out for the result that night!
Next Game analysis on our weekend opponents , the Albanian Eagles, will be out this Friday. They wouldn't sound so threatening if they were called the Albanian Sparrows or the Albanian Blue Tits would they!

  1. I'm seeing all these posts about disharmony....Interestingly, I must have been oblivious to most of the tension as I thought we played well (mostly) and had a couple of minor, typical, bouts of jawing at each other, but nothing excessive.

True, we certainly could live with less yelling on the field..especially when 4 guys are all shouting for the ball...and the result is 3 of the 4 are upset when they aren't given the ball. I think people should realize that the ball can be passed to only one teammate at a time, so we need to adjust our expecations and keep our thoughts to ourselves.

  4. Jodingo!! I agree with you.... i have played in many teams were shouting is the norm. In fact quiet teams tend to lose..... as long as we can be adults and leave anything said on the field on the field! You know the "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" thing. I forget everything that was said on the field as soon as i walk off it.... this is a fun team to play with and socialize with.... as long as we don't shout ( or even talk! )at opposition players or the ref we should be fine

  6. .....hey johnaldo...i forget everyting too when the match is over, especially who, how, where and when the goals were scored :-))

...guys, we're doing really well and having fun. let's not over analyze the on field antics, which we all fall victim to once in a while..it's only human/soccer behaviour!....besides could not have been too bad on Sunday, since SASL didn't red card anyone??? did they :-) BTW, was there a better class of ref in SASL than CARSL, even though just the 1st match?

  7. Roniildo.... yes, the ref was very good

  8. Why is it that Tom is the only player without a nickname????? The time has come to put our creative minds to work.

Tom, As a courtesy, we will ask you for a suggestion, and then we'll take it from there!

  11. TANO.... YES! thinking ahead before the pass is made and making the right angle to receive the ball... all good stuff

We should also be aware of the players around us when we ask for the ball.... all too often players shout for the ball when they are surrounded or up the field in an impossible position.

Also, when people receive a pass a lot of the time they let the ball bounce off them sometimes nearly 10 yards!... so we lose the ball.. players have to learn how to trap and control a ball when it's sent to them

  20. John,

I am not sure about the groin since haven't played much for the past 3 or 4 weeks. Last Sunday I tried to play it very safe and not sure if anyone noticed. I remember I took 2 shots from about 20 some yard range on goal but missed both of course. I was really testing my groin and to see how well I can take a shot on target. It is working progress and try to be there. Safet is out with bruised ribs and shoulder for this week.

  32. How many are in for the PD(postgame drink)?

So, La Boca knows how many pints we needed and make the barrels PO.
Also He mentioned, the only beers brand will be Stella.
If you want different brand, let me know and I see what I can do.
BTW:If you want some snacks with the drinks, be free to cooperate. I'm in charge for beers only (CBO).
Thank you TomA, for the bag of chips on last game.
