NEXT GAME; Sunday 29th June vs Fairfield

Our last game of the Summer season is an away game to Fairfield. This is a 10am kick off and we will need a strong squad to round off a fairly tough first 9 games to the season. I think the team is getting better but we have been unlucky in certain games. Fairfield will be out for revenge as they are the only team we have beaten this year!  So let's do it again!!

Who is in?

FAIRFIELD LUDLOWE HIGH SCHOOL (Lower and Upper) (also ROGER LUDLOWE COMMUNITY CENTER): 785 Unquowa Rd Fairfield, CT 64824
(Nike® Artificial Turf field approved for SASL games)
I-95 to Exit 21. Southbound right, Northbound left onto Mill Plain Road bearing right about 1⁄2 mile to stop sign and turn right onto Unquowa Road. Go about 200 yards to the entrance of Fairfield Ludlowe High School / Roger Ludlowe Community Center on the right. Follow the driveway around to the back of the building through the parking lot. Stay to the right of the large upper field if going down hill to the lower field.
Teams should note that NO ALCOHOL is allowed on school grounds!

MATCH REPORT; Greenwich Arsenal 3 Madison 0

I wasn't there but from all accounts this was a very brave backs to the wall performance by the Celts who played with one man down for most of the game. The fact that the first half score was 3 to nil and that was the same score by the end of the game says it all. Only one game left in the Summer half of the season. Let's bring that fighting spirit ( and more players...! ) to the last game.
"Very proud of the way all of you played today, especially shutting the 20 man squad out in the 2nd half. Many stand outs today, but Hulk at center forward (who'd have thunk it!) and Dustin in goal were fantastic. Nothing we could do about the first half goals! It was tough starting with 10 players again, so thanks to Hulk for driving down from MA this morning to make us 11! "  Captain Ron

Haven't played forward since freshman in high school......no one could challenge me on goal kicks with headers, so used to catching them which made headers easy...... One step short of scoring a goal on tanos cross.........overall a good time for a keeper .... Very funny ..... Been laughing about it all day

Hulk

"We play like Iran vs Argentina, but no subs, they had 8! Kevin played good in defense winning all the headers in the second half. My MOM is Dustin or all the great saves in the second half"

MATCH REPORT; Madison 0 Stamford 1

A tough defeat for the Celts as they fell to  a single goal loss against a stuffy, but resolute Stamford team. The game was an even one, although the Celts had to batten down the hatches for the first twenty minutes as Stamford set up wave after wave of attack. Some great defending by the back line and good saves by Hulk kept the score sheet clean. As the half wore on some great midfield attacking by Robert Bz, Roniildo, Jodingo!! and Jim allowed the team to claw back into the game. Some attacks by Kevin and Tano went close but by the end of the half the teams were tied goalless. The Celts had lost Dustin in warm up and a few players were starting to succumb to injuries with Jodingo!! next to be benched. The second half looked to be heading the same way as the first with chances few and far between for both teams. Just as  it looked to be heading to a 0 0 draw a mix up at a throw in allowed a Stamford forward to race into the box and round Hulk to smash the ball into the net. After that disappointment the Celts fought hard to get an equalizer but with no luck and slipped to another defeat

Man Of The Match; Great defence again with la boca, Tim, Dan and Johnny I playing well throughout the game ably supported by tomP and Hulk. But for his non stop running and aggressive tackling the MOM goes to Robert Bz

Our next game is this Sunday at home versus Stamford United. This is a 9am Kick Off!
Stamford is not a team we have played before but they have got off to a good start in the league so far sitting in 4th. Lat week they drew 0-0 against bottom team New Haven Americans. Our win last week didn't lift us out of the bottom two but we are now only 2 points off 6th place!

Anyone want to be on beer and snack duties for the weekend?

World Cup Starts Today!!

Another four years has passed and it's time for another month of crazy football!

So who is going to win it?   Not sure you can see past Brazil on their own patch?  Belgium maybe as a dark horse?  Argentina will be there for sure, and Spain, and Germany. What about Italy?  Or England? LOL

I'll be supporting teams that have current or ex Celtic players in their ranks, Greece, Nigeria, Korea, Honduras.....even England have the Celtic goalie!

So which team is going to win it??

MATCH REPORT; Madison 2 Fairfield 1

The Celts recorded their first win of the season with a well deserved 2-1 victory over Fairfield. A strong pool of players was available and the Celts started the game as though they meant business. Strong midfield possession and some reasonable passing was the hall mark of the opening twenty minute of the game. Johnny B and Roniildo were playing well together with Jim  and Ruggero  taking great positions on the flanks. As other middies such as RobBz and TomA came into the game the Celts were really keeping a strangle hold on the ball. The defence was solid and keeping the ball as far away from the goal line as they could but when Fairfield did break through Hulk was there with reflex saves from every part of his anatomy. Up front Kevin, David, Tano and La Boca were the opening set of strikers in the first half and were getting shots off, some from a distance, but enough to keep the opposition on their toes. The break through came when the ball spun through to Kevin who made no mistake by flashing the ball past the Fairfield goalie for the opening goal. The Celts held out to half time and started the second half with some great play again from the midfielders. Some good passing and pressure up front eventually led to a rare moment for the Celts this season....a second goal!  This time Jim spinning a ball over the head of the goalie. Two up and cruising with twenty minutes to go should have seen the Celts through to the finish line but they gave up a cheap second goal which set up a nervous last phase of the game But even with all the Fairfield pressure the Celts held out to claim all three points!

Man Of The Match;  Some strong performances all over the pitch from the defense with Hulk and Tim, the middies with Johnny B, Roniildo and Jim and the  forward line On balance the MOM goes to Jim for his match winning goal!

Guys we have another Home game this weekend with a 10am Kick Off against Fairfield GAC. This team plays in green and white so we will have to wear our change shirts which are black. I will bring a whole bunch of numbered shirts although I don't have all the numbers on them so if you have a black shirt with your number on it please bring it along.

Should be a lovely day again for a few beers after the game. We also have a great chance of getting some points in this game. Let's keep playing the way did for 75 minutes last week!

Who is in?  Who is bringing beer?
